There still planning on making Spyro's kingdom? Or was that just another name for Skylanders...

To be honest, I keep wondering the same thing. But everyone's going to answer you that it's another name for Skylanders..

I love these kinds of questions. I can never help but get a good laugh outta them.

I didn't even pay much attention to the whole "Spyro's Kingdom" thing; but even I knew Skylanders was the alternate name. XD

Still, it's possible SK was going to be completely different from SSA and it was just killed, with old evidence left lying to rot. smilie

That's not really how making games works. SK was the working title for Skylanders, just like The Darkest Hour was the working title for DotD.
GamingMaster_76 Yellow Sparx Gems: 1271
#10 Posted: 10:24:43 07/03/2011
It's still possible... What I meatn is that SK was a different game which was in development then killed off after a very short amount of time.

Again, that's not how game making works. If that had been the case, we literally would never have heard about it. The fact that Activision was hiding information about "Spyro's Kingdom" immediately before the launch of Skylanders confirms that SK was the game's working title. What info we have about Skylanders also suggests the same. SK might have been a different game early on (like Ratchet and Clank, whose working title was "Girl With a Stick") but it would have been so early on that we, the fans, will never know what it was like.
Darby Platinum Sparx Gems: 5738
#12 Posted: 12:29:15 07/03/2011
Spyro's Kingdom was probably the worst name for Skylanders, considering it would lead people to believe you're playing in Spyro's world, in a Spyro game, when really, it's nothing of the sort. :/ I don't get why that'd even be a title test.

#13 Posted: 12:45:44 07/03/2011
Much of the info we have on Skylanders suggests that it was at one time meant to be Spyro's world. Then, too, working titles can be strange and aren't always related well (if at all) to the finished product.

Girl With a Stick = Ratchet and Clank
The Darkest Hour = Dawn of the Dragon
How the Solar System Was Won = 2001: A Space Odyssey
A Boy's Life = E.T. the Extra Terrestiral
Blue Harvest = Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
Rory's First Kiss = The Dark Knight
Project 880 = Avatar
Corporate Headquarters = Star Trek

And so on. The fact that "Spyro" was even in the working title at all is in itself impressive.

Actually, 'Girl With a Stick' was a completely different game... Sony didn't reject it, they just didn't think it would sell well...

Doubly actually, Sony had nothing to do with "Girl With a Stick" not going far. The guys at Insomniac didn't like what they had with the game, so they took some of the elements from it and moved them over to Ratchet and Clank instead.

Ha, I didn't know all of those! some of em' are so far off what they actually named it. and I'm pretty sure spyros kingdom was a working title for SSA. seeing as the domain where we got the name SK from even switched to Skylanders Spyro's Adventure.

I could have swan they showed it to Sony, and Sony didn't reject it but just didn't think it was the best Insomniac could do...

Blacknight: My husband has worked in films and been an extra on a movie. I can't remember what the final title of the film was, but the working title they had for it didn't match at all. smilie Same thing went with a sci-fi flick that was being filmed at a museum I worked at at that time and another movie I was an extra in.

bionicle: Nope. I've spoken personally with one of the guys who worked on that project and read several articles written by Insomniac, Gamasutra, and Kotaku in which it is consistently said that the team didn't like where the game was going and were the ones who scrapped it.

Beats me. I think it was just a concept. Chances are that wasn't gameplay, but rather an early animated sequence showing what the idea of it was.

Yep, Spyro's Kingdom was the working/test title.

Blacknight: being a movie extra isn't as fun as it sounds and I don't even know what the movie is or if it made it past filming. James Wood was in it, though, and I have yet to hear swearing half as inventive as his lines for the scene we were in. smilie

Lol thats funny. I guess having a bigger role would be a bit funner. though, at least you can tell people you were in a movie, even if you don't remember what it was called!xD

I'm not insisting it happened, I was only theorizing... And none of the developers have said it wasn't a different game... After all, I am an optimist and I like to look at different sides of things(unless they completely just plainly and blatantly suck or they involve something I hate/vice-versa)... And I don't think that SK was a different game, like I said, I'm just happy being optimistic about things and I'm proud as an optimist.
And I think I'm fine without examples. All I'm really definite of is that I don't like to look at posts with a ton of examples. I don't need a long list- I only need a few- or in cases like this none at all. >>

Hmm... I did forget an important detail, though. The game said it was in development from June 2009-Present when it was leaked. I wonder when exactly Present was. smilie
