Here's a pictoral history of Spyro. He actually used to be a really cute and handsome guy. Now he's a vicious little thing that honestly reminds me of a pitbull. It's sort of sad looking back at how much I really used to like him. I mean, that's why I initially joined this site in the first place, right?

Yeah some of the concept art of Spyro the Dragon greatly resembles SSA's Spyro.

SSA looks a lot like the Classic design. The only differences I see are spots, fangs, and eye color.

Haha you're right, bmah. It's funny seeing how he's become progressively uglier over the years, to the point now where he doesn't even look remotely likeable anymore. Though I'm giving Skylanders a chance and I'm sick of people whining about the redesign, I do wonder what was going through their heads they decided to make him look like that.

I must admit though, I liked his ugly duckling style in A New Beginning. At least in certain instances like the promo pics.

Spyro's eyes are purple in ETD and AHT too.

Also, am I the only one that perfers Krome's design of Spyro over AHT Spyro? In AHT he looks ugly.

I disagree about the AHT design. Spyro looked adorable in that game.

I prefer ANB/TEN Spyro as well. DOTD Spyro is pretty awesome, but not my top choice.

For me it depends not only on the game, but also whether it's artwork or in game models we are talking about.

My Top favorite is the original design then AHT design.
When AHT first came out I hated the design but it's grown on me now looks sorta of cute .Bentleys design in that game however no... just no...
I however don't mind SSA's design just looks a little demonic.
In ETD however I thought his eyes were black?

Sometimes, a fiercer look is much better for a character, but when applied to Spyro, it's not easy to take this outlook very seriously. Maybe we all want to enjoy a more innocent look that many of us can relate to better. I mean, look at Ice Dragoness's avatar (artwork for new spyro) and then FlamingSheep's below it (old spyro). It's hard to figure out what Spyro's character is anymore. Laid back and funny? Angry and gung-ho? Large contrasts, aren't they?

I don't understand how hard it is to make a character seem appealing, especially when you have an awesome design to work with from the start... I like SSA Spyro, but I shouldn't of had to warm to him.
