I don't care if the new Spyro is different and 'dark', I still like both Spyros altogether.

I like light-hearted, "all about gameplay" games (Mario) and darker games with great storylines(Final Fantasy). So naturally, I like both Spyros. Even the Sonic games vary in tone.

For darker Sonic games there is Shadow The Hedgehog and Sonic 06.
For light-hearted there is Sonic Heroes and Sonic Colours.
And some games are a bit of both, like Sonic Adventure and Sonic Unleashed.

When it comes to humour, old Spyro was cartoony and also parodied other games, while LoS had a more mature sense of humour.

I like both as well.

And I actually think that the darker setting is better. I play light hearted games, but I always perfer darker settings. It just feels better.

I like light hearted games more than dark games. I don't really know why. smilie

I think it's mainly because the darker games tend to have more of a storyline, while the light hearted games don't seem to have that much of a storyline. I prefer games without that much of a storyline. smilie

I didn't like dark Spyro, it's just not the same, and that would have scared me if I was 8, I just prefer the Classic design. (Spyro 2 is my favourite, Spyro 3 his eyes look too wide, lol)

When it comes to a light hearted VS dark tone, I like both equally. I play an equal amount of light hearted games as I do dark games:
Light Hearted - Classic Spyro, Crash, Mario, Certain Sonic games, Certain Zelda games, Banjo-Kazooie etc
Dark Tone - LoS, Certain Sonic games, Certain Zelda games, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Brutal Legend etc

Light hearted: Mario, Sonic, Classic Spyro, Crash, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Boom Blox, etc.

Dark: LoS Spyro, Ninja Gaiden, Army of Two, Gears of War, any other shooter out there, Force Unleashed, etc.

I wouldn't compare LOS to adult games like those.
The tone is darker and it's still kiddish as no one really dies/suffers or even bleeds or anythink like that

Ignitus did die in a fire (which doesn't make sense because Ignitus is a fire dragon), but then he seemed to come back to life as the Chronicler (I think?).... It would have been better if he got stabbed or something, and stays dead. But maybe visit Spyro in a dream or a vision or something (like how he visits Spyro at the end of DOTD).

Actually, I think games that are in between light hearted and dark are my fave. OoT is a good example. It's storyline is very dark, and a lot of the dungeons are dark and spooky (with somewhat scary music) like the Forest Temple, but a lot of places are bright and happy, like Hyrule field, and it's light hearted most of the time. I suppose it's not the best example....

IMO, Kingdom Hearts is more in between. Although the storyline is dark and complicated, the game's actually light hearted most of the time.

I half agree. While it is quite light hearted at times, it really depends on who you are playing as:
Sora, Ventus: Light hearted
Riku, Roxas: Dark

Also, it only gets real dark towards the end.

Hm..... Still not as dark as many games I play though. Even in the uncut Japanese version, it's not as bad as many games I play.

Agreed. That game were you play as Roxas only is dark, but the main console games, were you play as Sora, are light hearted most of the time.

I've never plated Final Fantasy. My friends always make fun of me for that smilie

Dark... Hm, Okami was a nice blend of dark and light. It got pretty deep sometimes(Queen Himiko and Tobi)but still had some silly jokes. You get a boss drunk to beat him, no lie. Some enemies are also rather... Dense, like Blockhead. But some are so manipulative and deceiving it's scary(Ninetailed Fox). It's still my #1 favorite game of all time, number two being Kirby's Epic Yarn. After that I'd say the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series.

Ah, I love all the Spyro<3 Spyro the Dragon was the first game I ever played, I was scared of the vibrating controllers but when I saw my mom play it I just had to. Looking back... Gnasty Gnorc wasn't that big a boss smilie It was more of a chase then fight.

One thing I did like about DotD was co-op. I just wish there more 'exploration' parts of the game though.

I'm thinking on getting some MS Points at Christmas, so I can download ANB. I also want to get ETD, AHT and Spyro 3 somehow.
