I wouldn't call what parisruelz said that true; I've met plenty neutral fans who b*tch out one sided fans, claiming we're not true Spyro fans. But yeah, I doubt anyone'll 'freak out'; this is just too silly for that.

Ehh, I haven't actually seen that happen, but i'm sure you're right that it's happened. For fans of both, it gets tiring to hear people bash either side, because we like both sides, so I can see why that would happen.
You're not not a Spyro fan if you just like the Original series. That'd make you an Original Spyro fan. And you're not not a Spyro fan if you just like TLoS, you're just a TLoS fan.
But yeah I agree that this is too silly for any fan to really freak out. Unless one of those hard-core-don't-let-anyone-hate-it fans gets involved

Yeah? So? Most of us already knew that.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who paid attention to those GameRankings tallies and LoS' dismal critical reception. Even when I liked the games, I still agreed with the negative points the critics were bringing up.

I don't pay attention to reviews, they're just the opinions of other people, so I don't follow them like they're fact, I do make reviews but those are my opinions so you don't have to agree with me.

I tend to judge things for myself, but I do look at reviews on sites that generally have similar standards to me (GameSpot, mostly) before I plunk down $50-$60 on a game. Like I said, even when I liked LoS, the negative comments made by almost every critic (including the IGN review of TEN) matched my problems with the games.

I like to watch reviews, they help me decide if I'll like the game or not. Although usually, if there is a game I like the look of, I will usually buy it even if it gets a bad review.

Generally, I don't use reviews that much, but I will be honest - Reviews are very accurate on how I would score a game, too.

Even if I love a game to pieces, I can still give it a low review, as I actually think outside my own standards, which is what many reviewers do (hence LoS' average-low scores).

I never fully trust a review. I have come across too many biased reviews, undetailed reviews or reviews that outright lie.

Gamespot is one of my least trusted. They gave Sonic Unleashed on Xbox 360 a lower score than Sonic 06......
I actually trust reviews by independent reviewers as opposed to "professionals". Apoc is an example!

Sometimes I do that, and sometimes I don't. The reviewer needs to understand that, when reviewing, it must be taken from more than just your own point of view.
Some people, professional and non, tend to just think with their own opinion (which is why DotD gets such high ratings from fans, but not from general reviewers, for instance).

I agree. I usually look at reviews for extensive info on the game, rather than to decide if I buy it.

As for DotD, the reviews were very mixed. Some reviewers completely bashed it, some gave it a decnt rating and some gave it high praise. I have seen bias in both the negative and positive reviews. One trend I noticed was that a lot of Nintendo magazines gave the Wii version a lot of praise, which is weird, as i heard the Wii version had some weird glitches in it.

It should be obvious that it's "just your opinion" because you're the one making the review. I think it's kind of silly that people think they need to add little "I'm not forcing you to agree" kinds of disclaimers. What's even more annoying is when people reply to something that's clearly an opinion and get annoyed at you for not stating the obvious.

Reviews have to have some basis in fact, though; that's why I usually find them useful, even if I don't agree with them. You can't expect a review to be good if you just say something like, "I thought this part was bad. No reason why; it's just my opinion." That's not a helpful review. But if a review says something is bad and then explains why, you can decide based on that person's reasoning whether or not it's something that would matter to you or not.

One thing that annoys me about some reviewers is when they complain about something being a problem in one game, but when the exact same thing is in another game, they don't mark it as a negative. It also annoys me when reviewers dock marks for hard difficulty. Although it sometimes is a true statement, the term "it was unfairly hard" is way over-used.

I agree, especially on the 'IT'S TOO HARD!!!1111' arrangement. They said TEN was hard - I disagree. It was just the right level for me, with the only frustration being those wretched jellyfish

TEN was hard, I let a friend play it, and he had trouble just beating the first couple of levels. No matter what I try and do to defeat an enemy, I always seem to get stunned easily, it was ridiculous in my opinion.

TEN was hard, but not impossible. It was the most challenging Spyro game yet. I didn't find the jellyfish hard, but there were other hard parts.

On the "complaining about something in one game and saying it's fine in another" argument, my best example of this would be the way reviewers complain about the fights in LoS and Sonic Unleashed being too long, yet GoW and Kingdom Hearts have even longer fights and nobody complains.

ETD was the hardest, because it was so bad I couldn't possibly play it any longer, and never finished it.

In reality though, TEN is the hardest of the bunch, but it isn't saying a lot. The big reason it was hard was due to a lot of cheap deaths.

And I always wondered that about the long fighting. Why complain about something in one game, but not complain about it in the other game when it's even worse? It just boggles the mind, making me think that people just love being harsh to Spyro and Sonic.

Sadly, that's the truth. Sonic is considered "gaming's biggest punching bag", as the franchise has a lot of whiny fans. The tension seems to be dying down in the Sonic fandom lately though.

I didn't find any cheap deaths (except for one, odd glitch). I just thought it was a genuinely great challenge.

Also, IGN said that you can't skip cutscenes in their TEN review. Imagine my suprise when I pressed the B button on my Classic Controller during a cutscene......*sarcasm*

What really makes the fans bad is the presence of furries. The Spyro fanbase unfortunately also has this problem. A couple of people just ruin things for everyone else, and gives the sane fans a bad name.

Sonic is also a punchbag because of Sega constantly making bad games. Fortunately, Sonic Colors has gotten pretty good reviews, so that is also calming down.

And there are some pieces of TEN that you can skip, which are the ones with no dialouge and shows what you have to do. These can drag on for a bit. It's more annoying when you have to sit through it after you fall because of a cheap death that you got when the camera was facing the wall.

But when there's a cutscene that I do want to see but I press a button, I simply kill myself to see it again. If I can't, then I have to replay the game.

Actually, what gives the Sonic fanbase a bad name is the extremist Classic fans who start petitions over Sonic's eye colour in Sonic 4...... or who decide to buy Sonic 1 on XBLA on Sonic 4 launch day, as an attempt to boycott Sonic 4......

Personally, the only BAD Sonic game was Sonic 06, and Shadow the Hedgehog was mediocre. Everything else was at least decent.

Well, in the Wii version of TEN, you can skip every single cutscene. I never skipped them by accident, I skip them if I don't want to re-watch them.
