Spyro and Legend of the Guardians [CLOSED]

No, this isn't about some story line rip off or how a Spyro movie should be made.

When I got the Legend of the Guardians Wii game, one of the first thing I noticed was it was made by Krome, the makers of ANB and TEN. Normally that wouldn't mean anything, then I watched the credits. Clear as day in the credits I saw "Spyro Team". I didn't have time to take a picture, but I know I saw it. Chances are that Krome used the possible flight and air-battle mechanics from what would have been DotD to make the Legend of the Guardians game.

Opinions? Also, the Guardians game as a lot of fun. Fantastic flying mechanics.

The game was released several months ago, I think early September. I just kept forgetting to post this.

Hmm.... I still don't know whether I would get this. It's a Wii game based on a movie that's based on a novel. About owls. Who make weird smiles. And wear armor.

Oh.. that's dissapointing. In that case, DOTD would have been so much more entertaining when it came to flight if Krome made it. Oh well, at least it's in Legend of The Gaurdians.. which I can't play yet. smilie

In the Wii game Legend of the Guardians, you are always in flight in every level. It is very much like the flight levels in The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning, only with attack/defense moves, etc. I think it would have been very interesting if flight in Dawn of the Dragon was similar. That way, we would have been able to fly at different altitudes, make more precise movements, get through different obstacles, etc.

Krome made the Legend of the Gardians game?

That alone makes me want to give the game a rental.

I heard that the game was rather mediocore, but everyone said how the flight mechanics were one of the positives.

It very much would have.

But I'm still satisfied with the flight in DotD. It's just the camera that's the big problem.

I rent mediocre games. Either because I think I could find appeal in it, or because I want to laugh at it when I review the game.

I'd look for a cheap copy for Wii or 360. Chances are that the Wii would be cheaper first.

It takes me too long to play games for renting to be feasible, alas.

As for a Wii copy...I don't think so. The Wii and I aren't really on speaking terms unless the game allows me to play with the controller held horizontally (i.e., New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Donky Kong Country Returns).

Huh. I'd not heard that, ever. It's either different in the UK or just not widely known here in the US. Still, it's not worth $20 (or even $10) just to find out that it didn't work. I'll stick with looking for a cheap PS3 copy.

No, it's known to work everywhere. Plenty of SSBB players use it.(Although using the Gamecube controller is also a popular option)
There is a symbol on the back of Wii games that tells you whether or not it works.

Get Kirby's Epic Yarn then smilie

And I don't think it's a mediocre game... I had a lot of fun playing it, and the graphics aren't that bad. More fun then I've had with a lot of games recently, ESPECIALLY for a movie tie-in. I don't get why everyone says owls in armor is stupid but dragons in armor is fine. Give the Guardians a chance.

It looked pretty mediocre to me and I tend to agree with GameSpot's assessment of things (they also said it was mediocre). So did GameRankings (at best out of it's five reviews, I think one of them gave it a 7 out of 10).

Owls in armor is silly and dragons in armor isn't mostly because dragons can be anything (dragon knights aren't new) but owls are birds. Frankly, owls are plenty intimidating by themselves (I've seen one up close); putting human things on them (especially when they don't have thumbs and their talons make better weapons than a sword) just looks funny. Though I thought the armor in DotD was just goofy outright; how did they even get that on?

I usually don't agree with reviewers, especially not written reviews. I prefer watching video reviews because then you can see what they're doing and hear their voice and tone and know what they mean. Either way I enjoyed it. But then again, it's hard to find a game I DON'T like.

Dragons are just lizards with wings, though, and they don't have thumbs either. If it was a phoenix with armor would that make more sense, because it's mythical? And yeah, owls ARE intimidating. So are eagles. I've got to see both close up and pet them smilie A falcon tried to bite me that day.

You really don't know your dragons, do you? I've seen hundreds of variations on dragons, including bipedal dragons with thumbs, armor, and human squires for their pets. And, yes, a phoenix in armor would be less silly than an owl because, like dragons, phoenixes can be anything you want them to be since they aren't real. If the Ga'hoole owls were cartoons or designed to look less realistic, they wouldn't look so silly to me. I'm not saying they're bad or that the movie/game/books are bad (haven't read, played, or seen any of them, though I'm going to), but they really do look silly to me.

I guess you're right, and I'm going on the natural things they were based off of. Phoenixes came from flamingos that we're orange due to a slightly different diet in whatever area they were in.

Sorry I get so defensive over Ga'Hoole. It just makes perfect sense to me since I've seen birds using tools before, why not hold a sharp object? Talons are strong, yes, but some protection and even sharper blades are even stronger, like how we don't fight with swords anymore but use guns because they're stronger.

I think you'd like Nyra. She's your typical chilling female villain. As far as the series, I recommend it. Owls may be odd, but that makes it original in it's own way. Something different from humans, felines and canines.

The owls in the Guardians of Ga'hoole books actually do have some abilities. It is unfortunate, however, that these abilities were not incorporated into the game. These abilities were rather of the mind than of the body, the abilities to see visions within the flame and the stars. As well as, for some considerably gifted owls, the will power and spirit to resist a great and ancient corrupting evil called fygnrot. Such will power is called 'Ga'.

However, there was one ability that was incorporated into the game. It was called the 'Breath of Qui'. The Breath of Qui was a skillful attack which consisted of taking a deep breath of air, and then exhaling forcfully, giving you a quick burst of speed, in which you would collide into the enemy, that could knock the breath out of their lungs. This would cause the enemy to go 'yeep', which is the owl version of temporarily passing out due to fear, which would cause the enemy to fall to his death. It was considered a noble way of fighting, since there was no blood shed.

In the Guardians of Ga'hoole book series, the guardians were a group of noble warriors who sought peace among the owl kingdoms. They were knowledgeable of, not exactly 'abilities', but better said, 'talents'. These owls were capable of many extraordinary things, for an owl, such as- colliering (the art of plunging into volcanoes and forest fires to grab airborne coals), blacksmith (they made battle claws and other armor), navigation, search-and-rescue (these owls saved young owlets from other evil owls or forest fires), and many others. These were called 'chaws' (classes one would take to exceed in a certain area of talent).

The game is very much similar to the book series (more so than even the movie is! In my opinion). You start off as an owl named Shard, whose father, Grettir, is believed to be a traitor. From there you take on several missions. These missions include airborne battles, owlet rescues, ally escorting, bombing enemy structures (in which you grab hot coals and then throw them at the structure. This also works for attacking enemy owls, you can throw the coals at them... or you can let them come to you- if they attack you while you have hot coals in your talons, you will automatically set them on fire!), etc.

I think I covered the basics, any other questions and I should be able to answer them.

It would be interesting for a Spyro game to be made that includes flying at different altitudes. In my opinion, the flying in Dawn of the Dragon was great! Especially for one who would always spend a lot of time in flyable areas in Year of the Dragon. I am happy with all of the Spyro games - original and legend - the way they are, but I think it would be neat to see Spyro plunging from the sky, diving to the face of the earth to snap some grublin or some bad guy out of the sky. It would be a lot like flying in A New Beginning, only the moves would be more sensitive and you would be able to blow evil villians out of the sky. smilie

Har! The Guardians footage looks a lot better than DotD.

Man, that's the same trailer that I saw when I first heard they were making the movie. I recall being very surprised that this series of books that I'd seen at Wal*Mart had gotten a big-budget film treatment that looked as nice as it did (though the trailer confirmed my suspicions that it was just the hero's journey as interpreted by George Lucas with owls).

I really don't expect much out of it, but I do like the owls and a friend said the books were neat, so I'll probably enjoy this series (got the books and found a copy of the movie). I do like Nyra already. She's pretty and mean; my kind of lady. smilie
