Prologue
The moon reflected on the smooth surface of the lake as two young Dragons walked around its edge calmly, both of them gazing into each others eyes. It was a peaceful night, like any other. The two Dragons would always come here at night and spend some time together. They would enjoy watching the sun set and rise, they would enjoy watching the white light above them crawl across the sky. But this night was no different. It was just like any other night, despite that they had spent nearly all day together they would still find something to talk about. They would fly peacefully over the water together, one mimicking the other. But as the sun rose, they would make they're way back to their home. The night was the time that they liked the best, it was the time that they could be together and put behind the worries of what they day would always bring. It would be almost heart breaking for both of the, but it would be more so if the worst would happen. They would both walk through the door of the temple together, neither disturbing the other residents. They would lay down on the floor together and stair into each others eyes watching and waiting until the others would awake, pretending they had been asleep all this time.

Chapter I
Both Honour and Utility were Dragons brought up in the war, those weren't they're real names, but they both preferred they're war names. They would be trained together during the day but would one day have to fight in battle. That is what scared them, they feared loosing one another. They had no fear of war, or the beasts that they would have to kill, they both feared that the other would die. That they would fall prey to the enemy. They never liked the idea of fighting in war, some Dragons go insane during war, they say they would rather die than spend another minute on the battle field. The enemy were a dark foe, both Honour and Utility had never seen them before, and no one would tell the young Dragons what they were. But this still didn't scare them, no matter what they were. After only half an hour of sleep, Honour and Utility were both woken by Vulcan, their trainer. They had known him for as long as they could remember, they were both left in the temple, young, by their parents who had either died in battle or given them to help in the war. "Everybody, wake up. No time to waste." Vulcan yelled. This annoyed all the Dragons. They didn't like being woken up not only being reminded of the state the world was in, but with a headache too. Both Honour and Utility looked at each other and smiled. "Give it a rest you two..." Sync groaned irritated. He hated the two of them, and they both hated him. He always tried to act like he was dominant in the temple. He tried to twist his way to do whatever he could to get the guardians to like him more. He wanted to be the first to war, he couldn't wait until the day that he split his first blood. All of the Dragons stood on their feet and walked towards the door. They're were 7 of them in total. Utility, Honour, Sync, Nano, Nitro, Micros and Giga. These were all their war names, some liked them some didn't, but it was what they had to live with. Vulcan lead everyone towards the main training room. It was a large square room with targets, gems, weapons and armour placed in odd corners of the room. They all knew what they had to do, it was a basic war simulation. They all knew what they had to do after roughly 7 years of training, Both Honour and Utility were the same age at 12 years old. They were to be sent to war at the age of 15, each Dragon would have 10 years of training. Sync was already 14, he was the oldest out of all of the other Dragons, another reason why he felt dominant. Utility always wondered why they bothered to do this, if no one could tell them what they were fighting then what could they be prepared for. The warriors told them to be prepared for the worst, Sync saw this as a challenge, but the warriors constantly reminded him that it wasn't fun and games. Sync often refused to believe this, he saw the world as an opportunity to never turn back from all the things you could do. About half an hour into their training session the doors that lead outside opened wide as an injured black Dragon walked through them covering her left eye with blood stained wings. She screamed as she fell to the floor. Honour wrapped her wing around Utility as he did the same to her. They both looked down at him in astonishment. Vulcan ran towards her. "It ok, just stay calm. You're home." Vulcan whispered to her. "No, no its not... It's happening..." she responded. "I'm sorry..." She said as she lay limp on the floor. "Will she be alright?" Utility asked walking close to Vulcan. He sighed and turned to him. "She will, for now..." |

Chapter II
Cynder lay flat on the floor, held down with chains by her long tail and wings. Everyone was stood around her, some nervous at the sight of her struggling. Both Utility and Honour wrapped their wings around each other, with Honour shaking under Utility's wings. She was afraid to see Cynder like this, not just afraid of what caused it but afraid of what would happen to her friends, and more importantly what would happen to Utility. Vulcan barged past the other Dragons and looked down at Cynder. "Are you alright Cynder?" He asked her nervously. She shook her head, trying to hold in the tears. She couldn't bare it, and knew what would soon happen. She shook her head and looked up at Vulcan. "I'm... I'm scared... Not now... Not again..." she said looking up at Vulcan. "I'm sorry... I'm really, really sorry..." she continued as she began to close her eyes. Vulcan lowered his head, he knew he couldn't do anything to help her, he wanted to but he couldn't save her. He knew that it had to happen, all he needed to do now was to prevent and damage after. "Get out..." Vulcan whispered trying not to get angry with himself. All the young Dragons did as they were told and slowly left the room to leave Vulcan and Cynder alone. What would happen next would be unbearable for both Vulcan and the other Dragons. Vulcan joined the cause to train, but he himself had admitted that he had probably killed more of his own kind than the ones that they were fighting. Honour began to cry as she hid her head under Utility's wings. Even though he was excited for war, Utility saw the fear that shone in Sync's eyes. Deep down, he knew that he was afraid as much as anyone else. Not long after, Vulcan walked through the door back to greet the Dragons with his head held low. "Training has finished for the day, go... This is a time to mourn, not to fight." He said as he walked to the centre of the room not laying an eye on any of the young Dragons. Yet again, they did as they were all told. They didn't like to see Vulcan upset, so they dared not make him angry. As he stepped into the centre of the room a large golden dish with a green liquid swirling inside it rose from underneath the ground. He looked into it and sighed. 'Is he still alive?' he thought to himself, almost instantly knowing the answer as he began to see images of a large purple preparing for battle. Vulcan smiled, he was happy that Spyro had not been killed but was afraid that he would have to tell him what had happened to Cynder. The war was all about keeping all things good within yourself, any news like this would tear him apart, split between worlds. Vulcan led on the floor as a tears slowly dripped from his eyes. He didn't want to do this anymore, he wanted the war to be over and all his problems to go away. He couldn't bare it another day. He didn't want to have to kill another Dragon. Sometimes he regretted training the young Dragons, he knew that they're would be a slim chance that any of them would survive the horrors of the war before it drove them to insanity. If he knew the secret of what really happened during the war then he would have never got involved in the first place. |

Chapter III
Night feel over the temple, and the two bright moons rose high into the sky. Utility quietly woke up Honour, avoiding making too much noise. The both of them then carefully made their way to the back entrance of the temple and walked out into the darkness. They both smiled at each other and then ran towards the large lake in the center of the field. They both looked down at each others reflections in the water and continued to glare into each others eyes smiling. They both looked up at the moons, bathed in their light. They would mostly sit, and talk at these times of the day, mostly about the same thing but to the two of them it never got boring, they were satisfied by being able to see each other in the first place. It was near the end of the night, and a small orange glow could be seen over the horizon and as it did the two Dragons heard the door from the temple open up behind them. Utility and Honour turned around confused and at the same time afraid that they had been found outside of the temple at night. "Hey! You two!" Yelled Sync as he stepped outside through the door. "Don't tell anyone, please... This is the only time that we get together..." Utility said as Sync began to run up to him. He looked back at Utility confused yet trying not to laugh. "Um, you do realize that we all know... Right? But anyway, its not about that... Vulcan wants to see you, both of you..." he said running back towards the temple. Utility and Honour both looked at each other but, dispute the urgency in Sync voice, walked towards the temple as slow as possible afraid of what Vulcan wanted them for. They walked through the door to see Vulcan waiting for them on the other side. "You wanted to see us?" Utility asked nervously. Vulcan looked down at him and nodded. "Indeed I did, some time in the hours of the night, Cynder's body was taken." Vulcan said with a stern voice. Utility looked at him confused. "And, what does this have to do with us?" he inquired. Vulcan shook his head. "No need to be worried, I was merely wondering if you had seen anyone whilst outside with Honour." Vulcan said as Honour began to smile as she stood behind Utility. "No, we didn't see anyone... We just talk to each other, thats all we ever do, we try not to focus on our surroundings." Utility said as he turned his head to smile back at Honour. "Very well, but you should be careful at night. I won't stop you, but I'm juts telling you to be safe" Vulcan said as he looked down. Utility looked back up a him and nodded. Vulcan walked down to the end of the room as he pushed open the wooden door. "What do you thinks happened to Cynder?" Honour asked Utility after Vulcan left. "I don't know, and I don't see why anyone would want her body. Something's not right" "Something's never right, its war, what can you do?" Honour responded. Utility nodded as the two of them began to walk back into the sleeping chamber where everyone was awake after Vulcan woke them up. Utility only had one thing in his mind, he was afraid for Honour's safty, worried that now if she died in war that the enemy might start taking people's bodys away, but all he could think in his mind was 'why?' |

Chapter IV
Death is a curious thing for a Dragon, some say that death means only the spiritual separation between spirit and body, others saw death as the end and those who were taught so would do everything in their power to stop that from happening. It drove them mad, the thought of eternal darkness. The thought of not being able to think about how afraid the eternal darkness would be, was even more so frightening. But, these people would be proven wrong, as was Cynder the night that she died. She felt free of the limitations of a body, free to do whatever she wanted. Yet she still felt trapped by what had happened, by how upset everyone she knew would be. It bothered her, as she worried about Spyro and the others fighting the war. But was even more bothered by the cause of her death. She didn't know exactly what happened, but it had been the same as what had happened to hundreds of other Dragons she knew who had died. And she knew what would happen soon after, what they would do to her. The enemy wanted one thing, and one thing only, they wanted a reflection. As each and every day passed by more and more Dragons would join the war, and more 'reflections' as they called them, would be created. No one dared tell anyone involved outside the war. Only a handful of people know about it. It would frighten the others, and the war would be lost forever. But for Cynder knew what they did with the dead. Cynder, unable to move her dead body from the temple, did exactly all she knew as a spirit. Slowly, as she gathered strength from the elements around her, she began to lift her dead body off the ground and carry it through the temple and outside, undetected. It had taken a lot of strength but she managed it, she managed to keep her body safe from the reflections. She began to hear the voice of Vulcan in the background, back inside the temple. "Oh no, it's happened..." she could hear him say in an upset tone. She thought to herself that it was wrong that she took her own body to protect it, but it was for the best, rather than to give the reflections another advantage. She began to carry her body again, to hide it for now in the forest. She could find a better place when it was morning. Cynder finally rested herself. She had used a lot of energy and wasn't used to this. She began to think of all the horrible things that the reflections would do if they found her body, all the things that they had already done to her friends. She tried not to think of it too much, but it was hard to do so. It was all she could think about, all she was afraid of was what they would do. For now, all she could do what protect her body. It may be dead to her and the other Dragons, but to the reflections it's worth more than anyone could possibly imagine and for that very reason she needed to keep it safe. She channelled all the energy around her body to protect it. It would only work for a night, but that's all the time she needed. |

Chapter V
It had been a year since Cynder's body disappeared, and Vulcan was still worried about what had happened. He began to feel more secure now a days, just hoping that he wouldn't hear the dreadful news of another Dragon lost in the war. Still, today he had to do something else he didn't want to, send Sync, the oldest of the Dragons in the temple, to the battlefield. He didn't want to, he'd known Sync since he was a hatchling, but he assured himself he wouldn't do this again. Especially after last time. He had known many Dragons in his time, trained them to fight, watched them suffer and in the end kill them himself to stop any infection. He didn't want to have to do the same with Sync, but it was something he couldn't stop. He could only give him a few final words before he was forced into a life of worry and fear. "Sync, can I speak with you?" Vulcan interrupted Sync as he was in the middle of training. He lead Sync into the sleeping chamber, where the two of them could talk to each other alone. "There's something I need to tell you, and it's important that you pay very close attention to every word" Vulcan said, his expression grew serious on his face. Sync felt worried, for the first time in years. "Now, as you full well know, tomorrow I'm going to have to send you off. And you know what that means-" Vulcan continued before Sync interrupted him "I know, I know. This is where you give me a debriefing on what the war is about, where you tell everyone else what they need to do. And then you tell me 'its a secret, and not to tell anyone else'." Sync said, confidently. But Vulcan shook his head and sighed. "No, Sync. There is nothing I can tell you. No one can tell you anything, everyone experiences the war differently. Everyone has different reactions to what you'll be facing, what I'm saying is, I know you're strong, but you won't be strong enough for this. So be prepared" Vulcan said feeling worried for Sync, what he'd have to go through. "What? Is that it? Is that all this war is? A test of someone's strength?" Sync asked confused. He felt that his training had been for nothing. Vulcan tried not to get angry with Sync. "No Sync! It's something more... And when you work out the truth, I'm sorry..." Vulcan continued as he walked out of the room. Sync didn't know what to think he didn't know how to take this. He didn't know why Vulcan wouldn't tell him the truth. And it made him more worried than he had ever felt before. It made him uncertain about all this. Like he wanted to change his mind, but he knew he couldn't. All Dragons, male and female around the world would take part in this war, it was important to them, but at this time Sync didn't understand the importance of the war itself. More importantly, why the only one's who ever returned were near dead. Still, he tried not to think of it, hoping that what Vulcan said to him was just a small test. To try and trick him and make him stronger for the war, the final test. But he couldn't help put all the pieces together, and it all made sense. What happened to the Dragons who join the war... |

Chapter VI
It was the day, and it was time for Sync to say his goodbyes to everyone. Utility and Honour just grew even more worried, knowing that in just a year's time they would too make the same step towards the war. A large, old red Dragon arrived at the entrance of the temple, ready to take Sync. "What ever you do," Vulcan began to say to him "Look after him" he continued. The old red Dragon looked at Vulcan and sighed "You mustn't do this all the time Vulcan, you know full well what happens. You can stop it as much as we want to. I've tried, Vulcan, but no sign of Cynder anywhere. The 'reflections', they're working very well. But they haven't found her either. It's a matter of time". The red Dragon said. Vulcan shook his head. "And for Spyro's sake, I hope that time never happens. If you let this happen to Cynder, then he'll know. You won't hear the end of it, I warned you when the two of them joined, separating a couple isn't the best idea." Vulcan finished as he went to fetch Sync. He felt sorry for Sync, for everything Sync would have to go through, and for what they would do when he learned the truth. "Sync... It's time" Vulcan said as he walked into the training room where the rest of the Dragons were. Sync sighed, worried. "Utility, he... He looks scared" Honour said looking worriedly into Utility's eyes. "I'm scared... I don't want to do this." She continued as Utility wrapped his wing around her. He looked at Sync as he walked out of the room and lowered his head, feeling the same fear that Honour did. Sync followed Vulcan down the hallway, as the two of them walked down it without saying a word. Sync still remembered, and feared, the conversation that the two of them had the day before. The old red Dragon waited at the end of the hallway for the two of them. Vulcan nodded towards him as the two of them walked closer to the exit of the temple. Sync's heart rate began to increase, as he became even more worried with every step they took, trying not to breakdown in front of the two older Dragons. He lowered his head as they reached the old Dragon. "You are Syncros, correct?" the old Dragon said. "Sync, I prefer to be called Sync." He said, still not making eye contact with the elder Dragon. "I will call you what I wish, Syncros" the elder Dragon said with a tone of anger in his voice. "No need to get angry!" Vulcan yelled to the elder Dragon. He growled in Vulcan's direction and looked back down at Sync. "What training have you received, Syncros?" The elder Dragon asked. Sync looked up at him for the first time in their conversation. "All the training I have needed, armoury, survival skills, stealth, everything..." he said. The elder Dragon tried not to laugh in response to Sync. "Not ALL you're training. You will need daily training, until you are fully ready." The elder Dragon said as he turned around to leave. "Ready for what?" Sync yelled. Vulcan just looked down at Sync and nodded, in a sign to tell him to go. He had to, it was his time and even though he was worried for Sync, he couldn't even begin to understand how worried Sync was himself. |

Chapter VII
Sync woke up the next day not knowing where he was, he'd fallen asleep whilst on the boat to their destination. The room was dark, and there was no one around him in the same room. At least, he thought so until he began to hear deep heavy breathing from the opposite side of the room. A light shone into the room through a small round hole in the ceiling. On the opposite side of the room, stood a large turquoise Dragon who seamed to be having problems breathing at a steady pace. "Welcome, Syncros. How I've been waiting for you for a very long time." said the Dragon, with an old mysterious voice. "I understand, that you have been questioning what this war is about. Well, before you enter our training grounds, I believe you have the right to know." he continued before Sync interrupted him. "What is this place? And who are you?" Sync asked worriedly. The old Dragon smiled at him. "I am, if you wish, an old friend. That is all you need to know for now. The matter that we need to discuss however, is what this is all about. "Many years ago, there was another war between the army's of one Dragon named Malefor and the Dragon alliance. This was hundreds of years ago, before anyone alive today was born, anyone but me. Very early on, I lost someone very close to me. I lost someone who I had hopped would spend the rest of my life with me, she hadn't done anything wrong in life, she didn't deserve death. Neither did half of those who were killed." The old Dragon said before being interrupted by Sync again. "But what does this have to do with us? With any of the people fighting today?" The old Dragon gave out a small chuckle as Sync began to show a hint of anger. "Syncros, you were always an arrogant one, were you not? Do you not remember, Syncros?" the old Dragon said to him as a feeling of confusion yet recognition rose on Sync's face. He didn't know what to think, he knew what the old Dragon was talking about but he didn't know how or why he was doing it. "I don't... I don't know what you mean..." Sync said as he felt afraid of what would happen next. "The reflections, they are what all this is about." The old Dragon spoke once more. Sync, with these words, grew confused but didn't want to interrupt the Dragon any more."A reflection is a memory, my memory... A reflection hunts for those who die in battle... A reflection takes the shape of the memory and everything that it holds. If a memory can do so many things, than a reflection as a living memory can do even more." The old Dragon said, as he walked around the circumference of the round room. Sync began to understand what the old Dragon was talking about, why he was there and the whole point of the war. Why there were so little Dragons in the temple and why all of them had been alone and abandoned there. "And you, Syncros, are more than what you think you are. You're life is more than that of a normal Dragon. Did you ever doubt you're true existence, even for just a second. Did you never wonder who you're parents were? And why they would send you to be trained at such a young age?" Sync began to grow even more angry with every word that the old Dragon said. "Stop it! I understand! But, if I'm a memory and I'm you're memory. Then who, are you?" Sync demanded as the old Dragon finished. "My name, is Utility..." |

I'm just gonna say before I write this chapter... That the inspiration for writing this came from two things:
1. The song "What About Now" 2. AntarticSpyro... I will always love her, and the way I write about Utility and Honour is the way I think all day and all night (Welcome to my world! ) Anyway, on for what you're here for! Chapter VIII Utility sat by the lake outside the temple for most of the next day. It was tradition, the day after a Dragon had left the temple they would have a day of no training sessions. He sat alone, for the early hours of the day until Honour joined him at around about midday. She smiled at him as she sat next to him besides the lake. Utility smiled back, but he could help feel worried. "All the others that have been here before, Thero, Creek, Attine, all of them, they were always worried, right from the start. But Sync, he was confident, confident that the war would be easy, nothing to fear. Vulcan said something to him, and then... He changed." Utility said, since Sync changed he had began to worry even more about the war. "Utility, just... Try not to think about it, I understand that its worrying, but it has to be done." Honour said in response to his fears. "I suppose, but I just can't help worry. When its our time, I want us to be together when we leave. I don't want anything bad happening to you." he said, trying not to get upset. Honour wrapped her wing around Utility's back and simply said to him "It's ok, I'm scared too..." Utility nodded as he looked directly into Honours eyes. "What would I ever do without you?" he said as he began to smile once more. He knew that Honour would always make him happy. If he ever had worries, he would ask her and she wouldn't be afraid to ask him no matter what was on her mind. The two of them both led down on the lush green grass and looked up at the blue sky above them. It was a bright and sunny day, and nothing could ruin it for the two of them. Not their worries, not their future, nothing, and it was just how they liked it. Still, as the day drew onwards the bright sky slowly turned into a dark blue background above them. The stars shone brightly down on them as it always did, but for tonight the two of them would go into the temple and have a rest unlike a normal night. They both felt occasionally that they had too much on their minds and needed to rest. As Utility and Honour walked into the sleeping chamber, they couldn't help notice the empty space where the dark red Dragon, Sync, would be normally sleeping. As they fell asleep, Utility couldn't help having an odd dream. He saw Sync, back in the temple, but for some reason he wasn't Sync, he seamed much older covered in battle scars. He spoke to Utility in his dream, but he couldn't understand a word he was saying. It all seemed wrong, like he was saying the right words but they were coming out different than he had anticipated. Utility woke up in the middle of the night, unsure about his dream. "I'm just worried, that's all..." he whispered to himself as he lifted his head slightly. He slowly rested it back on the ground but still couldn't get the image of Sync from his dream out of his head. It almost seamed to haunt him, but in the way where he felt he was safe when Sync was in his dreams, as if guarding him from something else. He just thought he was being crazy, a bit of stress caused by what had happened and how worried he had felt whilst with Honour earlier in the day. He simply ignored it for now, and fell immediately back to sleep, with no more odd dreams that night. |

Chapter IX
Sync opened his eyes, he didn't know what had happened to him. The last thing he remembered, was talking to the old Dragon in a circular room. He woke up surprised to find out that he was chained to a wall in another dark room. He tried to pull his arms free, but he couldn't do it. "Do not try to escape, you won't be able to... It'll just be a waist of strength." said the voice of the old Dragon."What do you want with me!" Sync yelled in response. As Sync said that, a large square object was pushed by two Dragons up to Sync. It was a mirror, its surface reflected two windows behind Sync where he saw a camp inhabited by a small group of Dragons, recognising one as the Dragon who brought Sync to this place. He looked directly into the mirror, and only for a brief moment noticed that he wasn't in it. He looked closely, as the image of a dead corpse hang where he was. Legs and wings tied to the wall behind him. Exactly in the same position as he was. Sync didn't know what was going on, he wasn't dead, he couldn't be and this defiantly wan't his dead body anyway. His heart began to beat quicker, and his breath increased as he stared into the hollow eyes of the corpse in the image of the mirror. He quickly tried to escape once more until he noticed the image of the mirror changed into the face of the old Dragon. "Fascinating, isn't it? Do you understand why I call it a Reflection? Because a Reflection lacks exactly that, in a mirror it has no living presence. That's why they don't have mirrors in you're temple, and a reflection of water is too distorted for anyone to notice." said the old Dragon. Sync shook his head as he closed his eyes. "So that's all we are? We're just Reflection... An infection, taking dead bodies from you're memory's!" Sync yelled with anger. The old Dragon began to laugh at his weakness. "Syncros, do you think this war is real? Who is the enemy, ask me that." the old Dragon questioned Sync. He was confused, if the war was fake then what was the point. He sighed and looked back into the mirror. "Who is the enemy..." he said, feeling as if he'd been forced to. "Reflections, are my memory. In my time, I've had my moments of madness... Of darkness and murder, our enemy is all of that. Everything dark within me, projected into the worthless bodies of the dead. We told them, it was an infection. Spreading along the dead, to bring them to life. When really, it was me. Only a few know about the truth, and when they find out... Well, you'll know soon enough." The old Dragon said as the image disappeared to leave the corpse hanging in front of Sync again. "Wait! What do you do to everyone! What did you do to Cynder!" Sync yelled, but it was too late. He didn't know what to do and he couldn't do any more than he had already done. He just had to wait to see what dawn would bring. He didn't want to do this any more, his life was all a lie created by that Dragon, and if his life was so important then he just wanted to end it, he wanted to make the old Dragon feel like it had been all for nothing. Sync, for the first time ever, wanted to die. He couldn't bare the thought any longer. His body, was one of the dead. He was a victim of a war, designed for him and others to live in the world once more. |

Chapter X
Utility had slept until midday the next day, he'd been very tired last night. But he was woken by a scream he heard coming from outside. He woke up and looked around the room where he was alone. He quickly ran outside where everyone else already was. Everyone was surrounded by Nano, as she stood next to the edge of the lake and was fixed on the water, shaking in absolute fear. "Nano, are you ok?" Vulcan asked her, but she didn't respond. Just looking at a single patch of water shivering. "Nano, can you hear me?" Vulcan said as he looked right into her eyes and saw the fear in them. He shook his head, knowing exactly what had happened. "It's ok Nano... You're alright." he said as he tried to force her away from the edge of the lake. "There... There was a face... In the water..." she finally responded, still not looking at Vulcan or anyone else for that matter. Utility looked over at Honour and signalled for her to come closer to him. "What happened to her?" Utility asked shocked about the situation. Honour shook her head trying not to think of it. "We went to get a drink from the lake, but as we did... She screamed... But, there was something there, I saw it... Directly where she was looking." Honour began to shake slightly too, as the image filled her head. A few tears dripped down her face as she tucked her head under Utility's wings. He simply closed his eyes as he willingly wrapped his wings around her."Its ok Honour, I'm here for you." he said as he lead her back into the temple. Vulcan sighed as he saw the two of them walk off into the temple. 'If only they all knew...' he thought to himself as he looked down into the lake himself. He shook his head as the other's began to walk into the temple and when he was alone he spoke aloud. "If only they all knew... This can't go on forever, he can't keep doing this..." Vulcan finished looking down at his reflection in the water once more watching his mouth move with every word that came out. Vulcan followed the rest of the Dragons into the temple and watched as they all bombarded Nano with questions. "That's enough! Leave her alone!" Vulcan yelled down the hallway. He followed Utility and Honour the opposite way to the rest of them, back into the sleeping chamber. "Are you two alright?" Vulcan asked them. Utility nodded and looked up at Vulcan. "I'm fine, but Honour's a little bit upset... She said she saw what Nano saw too..." Vulcan was surprised by what Utility had said. He lowered his head looking down at Honour. "Did you see another, or the same as Nano did?" he asked curiously trying not to cause suspicion. Honour shook her head and looked up at Vulcan. "I saw, something... Directly where Nano was looking... Something different..." Vulcan nodded in response to Honour. "I see. Just try and get some rest Honour, you'll be fine..." he said smiling down at Honour. He turned to the other end of the hallway and yelled "And you too Nano, you should get some rest as well!" Vulcan said. He could see Nano turn around and nod towards him as she began to slowly walk closer to them. |

Chapter XI
"Wake up Syncros!" yelled the old Dragon the next day, as Sync opened his tired eyes and looked up at him. It was night as Sync could tell by the dim light from the moons shining through the windows. It was dark in the room, so he could barley see the old Dragon as he stood in front of him. "You're just in time, for me to show you something..." said the old Dragon as he turned his head to face another Dragon in the room with them. He was asleep, but held to the wall by chains just as Sync was. "This Dragon, found out... He discovered what this was is really about. And now, I'll be able to show you what I do to people like him." the old Dragon said walking closer to the other Dragon. "Is this what you did to all the others? Why they went crazy and had to come back to our temple?" Sync yelled to him, trying to break free from his chains. "How many time's do I have to tell you Sync! There's no use in trying to escape!" he said, not looking back at Sync and focusing on the other Dragon in the room who, from the noise of Sync, had woken up. "What, where am I..." said the Dragon as he looked up at the old Dragon. "This is Vilen, and he found out our little secret about the war." said the old Dragon turning to face Sync referencing to the other Dragon. "What- What do you mean?" Vilen said, confused about what was going on. "You saw what they were for real Vilen! You saw the reflections, and you know too much!" the old Dragon said. He closed his eyes and stood still for a moment, slowly breathing. His breathing began to get slower and slower by the second until everything around them stopped. Sync could not move, he could see what the old Dragon was doing but couldn't move himself. The old Dragon pushed the mirror in front of Vilen, who was also unable to move but with his eyes wide open. The old Dragon began to chant something, but it was unrecognisable as his whole body began to glow and the surface of the mirror shone in sync with him. Both of the bright white lights began to slowly pulse at the same time until it suddenly stopped and Sync could move again. He quickly took a deep breath as if gasping for air. "Time distortion, does that on the first time." the old Dragon said talking to Sync. "What did you do to him? What was that?" Sync asked, confused and worried that he would do the same to him. "This is how I release a part of my memory when I want to focus it on one particular person. The time distortion was just to make sure he didn't try to prevent it." said the old Dragon leaving Vilen as he remained there motionless. "But what happens to him now?" Sync asked worried yet curious at the same time. "The memory will be left to harvest the body, and when it goes into a living body it's makes it like having a second mind. The brain can't take that, and it'll eventually drive him mad and he will eventually die due to the fatal amount of stress caused by the process." the old Dragon said, almost like he wasn't happy nor proud of what he did. "So this is what you've done to everyone, you killed them in a way that would make it look like some kind of, post-war trauma. So what about all the others? Everyone else that has been in the temple, where are they?" Sync asked, afraid that the answer wouldn't be positive. "They're somewhere special, waiting..." |

Just went to see Inception again, and it never get's old! ... Anyway, so it inspired me to write some stuff, enjoy!
Chapter XII It had been just over a year now since Sync left, and it was Honour's 15th birthday. Utility had been fighting for his wrights to stay in the temple just for a bit longer until it was Honour's birthday. They let him stay, but the two of them would both go together. Vulcan always said, he never liked couples going to war together. He didn't like knowing that one day they may be separated, but there was something different in his attitude towards Utility and Honour. However, the two of them were too focused on other things to care about how Vulcan treated them. They were fearful, they didn't want to do this. All the time they'd known about the war, it felt as to them it would be years before they actually went themselves and yet the day had arrived. Vulcan brought the two of them into the sleeping chamber whilst everyone else was doing their training that day, just as they'd seen so many before them do the same. "You wanted to speak with us, Vulcan?" Utility asked, almost afraid of what he would hear knowing how afraid Sync was after Vulcan had spoken to him. Vulcan shook his head, hoping too that this day would never come. "It's finally here, you're finally ready." Vulcan said, lowering his head as he began to get upset. "Its ok Vulcan, you've been a good teacher to us. We're proud to have been your students." Honour said trying to comfort Vulcan as he looked upset. "No Honour, it's not that. I'm proud of both of you, but you shouldn't be proud of me if you knew where I was about to send you. What is going to happen. I'm sorry Utility... I'm sorry Honour. I wish there was something I could do." Vulcan said, he couldn't look at the two of them directly as he turned around and lowered his head. "What do you mean, Vulcan?" Utility said, he remembered seeing the fear on Sync's face after they had spoken over a year ago, and at this moment he felt that fear too. "I can't... I can't tell you anything. He'll know, and he'll kill me if I do. He's going to kill me anyway, but that doesn't matter any more. Because I've done what he wanted, and all I want now is to die..." Vulcan whispered to himself as he slowly walked out of the room and left Honour and Utility alone. "Vulcan? What do you mean! What did you do?" Honour yelled back to him, expecting him to come back through the door and tell them everything. But he never did, until he brought along with him the Dragon that would arrive at that temple for the very last time. The Dragon who would for the final time take another young Dragon in training. They didn't know that, and neither did he, but this would be the last time they would ever need another Dragon. This would be the time where one Dragon from thousands of years ago would make sure that the world would never be the same again. "It's time, Honour... Utility." Vulcan said as the red Dragon followed him into the room. "Yes, it is indeed. Come with me the two of you." he said. Slowly and cautiously, Honour and Utility both followed the red Dragon, as they walked down the hallway of the temple for the final time, leaving all their friends that they had known for so long. It was almost sad to see it all go, but they knew it would happen one day. What they never had expected, is what was about to happen next. |

Chapter XIII
"Utility! Honour! Wake up!" yelled a familiar voice as both Utility and Honour lifted their heads off the cold stone floor of the room. They looked around to see where the voice was coming from, but it was pitch black. "That voice... Sound familiar." Honour whispered to Utility. "Hello?" Utility said curiously. Walking in the direction he thought he heard the voice from. "Utility, it's me... Sync!" he said in response. "What are you doing here, aren't you meant to be fighting?" Utility asked, confused about what was going on. Sync shook his head and didn't speak for a moment. "No, Utility... We're something different. We're not fighting." Sync said and as he did footsteps could be heard from behind the three of them. "15 years I've been waiting for this. 15 long years. All of this time, dreaming of what I might achieve." said the old Dragon walking closer to Utility. A bright light suddenly shone as a hole in the ceiling of the room was opened. The old Dragon stood tall and looked down at Utility towering over him. "Sync, what is this? What's going on?" Honour asked, Utility was too confused to ask questions. "The war, isn't real. He designed it, he created the war. The enemy, it was created from his memory-" Sync said before interrupted by the old Dragon. "But that's not all, is it Sync? You see, many years ago, a war had begun against the army of Malefor. All Dragons were forced into training, and each and everyone one of us had to fight for the cause. The years went by, and I had lost so many friends, so many people that I knew didn't deserve to die. But one of them, I killed myself. She meant more to me than anyone had ever done, but all my anger, all the people I lost, I couldn't bare it. The day I killed her, I was determined to do whatever I could to bring her back. I had tried and tried, but it was impossible to physically revive her. Memory was the key and after years of training I had perfected the art to extract a memory and project it into a dead body. It was successful, but the first time I tried she remembered how she had died. So, I tried again, but I realised that the only way she would not remember how she died is if she didn't remember anything. But I needed to wait, it was the wrong time with the war still going on." Utility looked towards Honour, he could tell the fear in her eyes. He then looked up at Sync, chained to the wall. "It was Honour, wasn't it?" Utility asked looking up at the old Dragon. "More than that Utility..." Sync said looking down at him afraid. "I realised that Honour here, would not remember me. So, I had to wait until the time was right, until she was perfect. But, for that to happen I need to make it seam real. I extracted memories of those who I had known, who she had known. I named these, Reflections, they were creatures of their own emotion, feeling and memory but they were created from my own memory. Finally, to complete the set after everyone else was ready, I created myself." the old Dragon said. "And now, that you are here... All of you, I can begin" he continued. Utility and Honour both looking at each other in disbelief. "All this time, all of us, we were created from your memory? We're not real? Never have been, and never will? No one should have that power!" Utility yelled in rage, he couldn't believe what the old Dragon was telling him and yet in the end it all made sense. |

Chapter XIV
The old Dragon woke the three of them early the next day. Honour and Utility could barely sleep after what had happened, but eventually they grew tired and managed to fall asleep. They'd spoken about everything that had happened the night before they had tried to piece this all together, they couldn't really believe it and tried to think of a logical explanation. They hoped it was all a dream, but they knew it wasn't. "Wake up the three of you, it's ready..." the old Dragon said as he woke them up. The mirror in the centre of the room had been moved, but in it's place was a glass container with a dark cloud floating inside it. "What is that?" Sync asked looking down at the container. The old Dragon opened the lid off the container and then looked at Sync. "Remember what I told you? Everyone else, all the others that I knew and made reflections of... Their somewhere special... Waiting." and with those words, voices started to spill out from the container, whispers from people that they had known in the temple, memory's from those who had died in the war. "Utility... We missed you... We we're waiting for you..." The voices continued to speak to them, Utility more specifically. "Sync, you've been here for the longest, you'll be first." the old Dragon said. His eyes began to glow, similar to when the old Dragon implanted a reflection into Vilen before to drive him insane. "You've seen this before, haven't you Sync?" the old Dragon said but before the three of them could say anything everything around them froze. Like before, they could see the old Dragon moving but couldn't move at all themselves. They were only able to watch whilst Sync body slowly began to resort back to the remains of a victim of war as a dark cloud, similar to cloud in the container escaped from him and along with the other memory's, it seamed to be attracted to the container. After the task was complete, Utility and Honour could move again. "What did you do to him?" Utility asked, as the dead remains of what was once Sync remained hung against the wall. "Sync? Can you hear me?" Honour asked, directing the question towards the large black cloud in the container. "He can't understand you. He is still Sync, but not the same that you knew. Without a mind and a body the memory is just that, a memory." the old Dragon said as he turned to look towards Honour. "And now, it'll be your turn Honour." he continued walking closer to Honour. She walked backwards away from him. "No, don't! I'll be first." Utility said in defence. The old Dragon smiled down at him as Utility walked in front of Honour. "That's very heroic of you, but I won't be needed you. Honour is the final piece, but don't worry. You'll all have plenty of time together when I'm finished." the old Dragon said moving Utility out of the way as he walked closer to Honour. "What do you mean? What's going on... Tell me!" Utility said trying to get in the way of the old Dragon. "I'll tell you eventually, but for now its time, Honour..." the old Dragon said. His eyes glowing once more and the same process repeating from what the old Dragon did to Sync before. Utility tried to stop him, but he couldn't move. He couldn't help Honour no matter how much he tried he couldn't do anything to stop the old Dragon. |

In an attempt to stop the topic from dying, I SHALL CONTINUE!
Chapter XV The bright sun shone through Utility's eye lids as he slowly opened them. It was midday, and he was lead down on a stone path. He didn't know where he was, or why he was there. He looked around, trying to find someone, but there was no one there. He even wanted to see the old Dragon, anyone would be good enough. He was alone now, for the first time in years he had no one he could talk to, no one who would understand. He looked around, trying to familiarise himself with his surroundings. He had never been out of the temple before, but guessed that it was the path from the temple towards the place that the old Dragon had kept them. The path was surrounded by woodland. It was peaceful in a way, he could hear the birds, the soothing sounds of the day. It all reminded him of Honour, the peaceful relaxation. He lead down on the ground and began to cry thinking about her. He missed her so much, more than he would ever imagine. She was gone, and he was left to die out in a forest, unsure of where to go. As the tears dripped from his eyes onto the ground, a small puddle began to form. He opened his eyes, looking directly into the puddle, but he didn't see the dead corpse that he had expected to. He saw Honour, looking right back at him, mimicking his every move. He curiously looked at his arms, and turned his head around to observe his whole body. It was the same, nothing had changed but his reflection. Looking back into the puddle, he began to daydream thinking about Honour, it helped that he could see her in his own reflection. He sighed as he whispered to himself, "I miss you Honour..." He noticed that his reflection didn't speak as he did. It was strange, something was wrong, and he could feel it as he felt the urge to whisper back "I miss you too Utility..." And as he did, his reflection began to speak. "Utility? Can you hear me?" but it wasn't coming from the reflection, but from his head. He hesitated for a second, but before he could respond he started to feel strange. His vision faded, yet he wasn't going unconscious. His limbs felt numb, yet he could move them fine. He opened his eyes again, feeling perfectly normal. He shook his head dismissing the strange feeling, and the voice of Honour in his head. Although, as he began to walk down the path he did feel a bit different. He felt a bit shorter, his eye sight was sharper and his head felt heavier. He sighed, but rather than it being a deep huff, it sounded different. Higher pitched and more delicate than his own. He shook his head and spoke to himself. "It's nothing..." He said. But after he uttered those words he realised how serious the situation had become. He quickly ran back to the puddle that he stood by before. He looked down, and his reflection was himself. Not a dead, rotting corpse, but his normal self. "Utility, what are you doing?" He spoke, out of control of what he was saying. It was Honours voice. "What? What's happened?" Utility said, the reflection mimicking the movement of his mouth as he spoke. "Utility, why are you in my head?" Honour said talking to the reflection of Utility. |
