I found an interesting article on Gamespot the other day which I thought you guys may be interested in: http://au.gamespot.com/news/2621489.html Basically, the article seems to suggest that ETD was to get a PC release, but obviously it never got one. This suddenly made me wonder "why were the Spyro games never on PCs?" I mean, at the time PCs had a large number of advantages over console games, such as >Downloadable Bugfix Patches (this may have been able to save ETD's backside at the time, as many people criticized it for the bugs that it shipped with) >Modability >Ability to extend graphics beyond what consoles are capable of rendering. Also, besides the standard benefits that the software makers would have received, the games could also be sold through online distribution services such as Direct2Drive and Steam, which would allow for an unlimited continuous amount of copies of the games to be sold, bringing in an endless cashflow for the developers. Just to illustrate my point, I never played any of the legends series, but if I wanted to buy any games older than DOTD, I would probably not be able to buy any of the Legends on PS2 older than DOTD, because the PS2 versions are no longer made and you can only get preowned copies now (which I might add are very difficult to find). One could say that the Spyro games weren't really designed for PCs, but I know that some of the Rayman games (being similar to Spyro games in that they are both platformers aimed at a family audience) were released on PCs and they seem to be doing okay. I hope I don't seem like I got too agitated, but it just seems silly to me that PC ports were never made of the Spyro games, as the games have been released on virtually ever other console (especially with Legends.) Does anyone else think the games should have had PC counterparts, or am I alone in my opinion. |

Actually, there is PCSX2 which does work for AHT, ANB and TEN. The only downside about PCSX2 is that
A.) You need an extremely powerful PC to emulate PS2 games anyway. B.) You will also need a copy of the PS2s BIOS, which you must download illegally unless you have a modded PS2, in which case you can use a homebrew program to extract the BIOS. |

well one thing with the legends with all the ideas I have would probably make more sense on the PC along with the PS3 and Xbox 360. but yeah the pc makes alot of sense on the legends games there you could have added free roam big time!!! plus much better graphics especially when EL made DOTD the ywould have been epic. and possible online co op, as well as the whole dragon generator could have been put in there so people could make their own dragon to battle against friends, but unfortunaltly that wasnt the case...

Better than mine, lol.
It all really depends on the game itslef. For instance, I can emulate AHT at full speed with a 2.6GHz core 2 duo and a nvidia geforce 8600m gs at full speed, yet on games like Dragonball Z Budokai 3, I only get about 25FPS ingame. I would suggest that you turn speedhacks on and close down all other programs when emulating. In case you're wondering, this is the kind of performance you will get from the games (regardless of FPS rate). One thing I forgot to mention is that PCSX2 is only in beta, so it is unexpected that it will ever be a replacement for the PS2: ETD: Don't even try. PCSX2 locks up at the loading screen. AHT: Pretty easy to emulate. It was hard to get working at first, but I did a whole heap of configurations and got it to run at constant 50FPS on my comp. If it runs slow on your comp, I can send you my configuration. ANB: Apparently playable but suffers from a lot of audio and graphical glitches. TEN: Same as ANB. DOTD: According to the compatibility list, this game is a no go, but I have seen a video of this DOTD working in the latest beta release of PCSX2, although it may be fake. |

Still, I think I'm going to search for NTSC 60GB PS3 on ebay, or ask Sony customers support if they would make special custom... I would not look at how much it would cost, because having one system which could play nearly all ps game IS badass...

Even if I could make my own dragon in Spore-like creator, I would play as Spyro or Cynder, I love them Why do you want other playable dragons in Spyro game? Play Spore or Divine Divinity 2: Ego Draconis!!! Spyro leave for Spyro!! And Cynder!!

Which is odd, because the PS2 didn't have that good spec... |

PS2 emulators have big requirements, because they are not optimalised. It's not an official software, I don't know if it's a legal software, so don't expect a perfect programme to play PS2 games on PC...

PCSX2 alone is perfectly legal, BUT it requires a valid PS2 BIOS to work which is illegal to obtain from the internet. The only way to get a BIOS legally is to dump it from your own PS2 (there is homebrew for doing that). Also, this goes without saying but using it to play games that you do not own is also illegal.
And yes, PCSX2 is not perfect and don't think it will be near that for at least 10 or so years, but it can play a lot of games quite well. For more information check out the compatibility list at pcsx2.net |
