Chapter 23.
Soft, moist grass tickled Spyro's feet as he landed to the ground. The flight to the Walley of Avlar had taken longer that he'd expected, but he was there now.. Spyro explored his surroundings a bit, it had been a while from his last visit at the walley.
Everything looked the same, the forests, the cliffs, the rivers.. Spyro sniffed the air and noticed a familiar smell. It made him feel good.. The smell reminded him of the time he had first told Cynder he loved her, here, in the forests of the Walley of Avlar..
Even back then, Spyro had had his own worries and problems. But compared to the situation he was in now, he would have given anything for a chance to get back to that moment..
Escaping in his thoughts had proven to be an easy way to cope with the problems he had. Whenever he had a moment to spare, he would think about everything he had gone trough in his travels..
It gave him power, courage, but mostly it gave him hope..
Hope that he would get to set things straight one day. That all the suffering he had gone trough would stop..
He often thought of how he would face the one responsible for all the fear and hate, and with all the hopes of his friends on his shoulders, defeat him in a glorious battle..
But never it had occurred to him in his thoughts, that doing so, he could also lose something so close to him..
That he would have to make sacrifices..
Suddenly, Spyro was ashamed of himself..
He felt like a weakling..
Shaking his head, he dusted off his dreams. And with the sight of the Cheetah Village ahead of him. He faced the cold, hard reality once again..
When Spyro arrived to the Village grounds, Chief Prowlus was among the first ones to greet him..
"Welcome Purple Dragon, welcome.. It's good to see you again, for a change." Prowlus stated happily, "I see the world has left it's mark on you.." Prowlus pointed at Spyro's scar.
"Good to see you too Prowlus.." Spyro said. He didn't remember him being this happy to see him before. "The world has left it's mark on you too, I see.." Spyro added, nodding towards the scar on Prowlus's chest.
An awkvard silence followed, but then Prowlus kept on talking: "Ah, It's just a bodily would.. My soul is still as intact as it used to be." He said, "Erh.. Yours looks like it has been torn out.."
"You could say that, but I didin't come here to talk about it." Spyro said.
"Yes, why are you here anyway?.." Prowlus asked..
Spyro looked around him, and he didn't see Hunter anywhere.. "I uhh.. I just wanted to ask something from you. I didn't plan to stay long.." He said.
"Ohh, come on!" Prowlus said, and swatted Spyro's back, and started to lead him to the village center. "Stay here for a while, we'll hold a feast for you in the evening. After all, we are all alive because of you.. You can ask me anything you want then, and maybe share with us, the story of that scar.."
"Well, okay.. I quess I could stay for one night.." Spyro said. The idea felt great, since he wanted something to get his mind off Warfang..
"Fantastic, I will tell out villagers to make ready for a party!" Prowlus said, "Make yourself at home until then.."
Spyro looked around himself a bit. Hunter was nowhere to be seen. And to speak the truth, Spyro was not really surprised.
Overall, the Village seemed to prosper, concidering that it was destroyed by the forces of darkness a couple of weeks ago.. But the people had changed, dramatically. Their eyes, once filled with life and passion, were now drowning into fear and depression..
Spyro shutted his mind off such thoughts, and waited for the evening..
More soon..
