This topic is for fans who like BOTH the old and the new Spyro, who don't take part in either side of the series trying to compare which Spyro is better than the other in debates, like determining that the old Spyro is better than the new Spyro, or the new Spyro is better than the old Spyro. I know I'm not the only one here who likes both of them.

Anyone here who thinks that one part of the Spyro series is better or superior than the other, or you don't like one side of the series, then this isn't the right topic for you.

Tell your opinions to other fans, who like both Spyros, about how you like both sides of the series, despite the sudden changes in the franchise.

In my opinion, I like the Old Spyro series for its originality, its humor, the loveable characters, and the worlds I explored through the old games. I like the new Spyro games for its story trilogy that started the universe, its re-introduction of few of the characters, Spyro's origin, and its newly added characters.

Yeah, since you don't sound like you're saying 'the new Spyro is better than the old' kind of thing.

There are some things in LOS I liked better, like the characters. There are some things in the Originals I liked better, such as the different worlds...

I like both, but the originals a little bit better.

Anyway, to start an actual conversation-

Can us Europeans get Spyro for PSP without hacking?(Not asking anything about hacks, just asking if the games can be downloaded to European PSPs.)

I love both equally, there's characteristics that I like in both, and I'd love to see more of both in the future.
I loved the humor of the old games, and the cute graphics. I really thought Sparx' buzzing was cute when he used to speak, and I likes the portals and many completely different worlds within one game, more variety than in the new games. I also had a liking for the lack of portals in AHT, the way you entered new worlds was still nice (good view on the way to the cloudy place). Also, the pressure of trying to find every gem in the game because there's a limited amoung and you need them to complete it 100%. It added the fun to the game. And even ETD, widely regarded as the worst Spyro game ever- the graphics were nice.
But I also loved the adventure side of the Legend, it had a good storyline and mostly had good humor. The characters were new but still loveable (aww, Volteer). The new approach to Spyro was almost nothing like the originals but in that way, it was very well made. Also, the enviroments were wonderful, and the music was just perfect. And DotD, despite it's faults, wasn't terribly bad. Cynder could've added some weight, gone more blue than purple and not left us wondering where her silver armour/jewellry stuff came from, and changed her attitude- then she might have been as nice as the music.

(Plus, I made four fancharacters based on the galleries and flying dragons in Warfang in DotD- the design wasn't all that bad, except the Guardians, Spyro, Cynder and Sparx.)

Yeah, that falls under storyline. If it didn't have as many plotholes, I would have thoroughly enjoyed it.
And I have some boys in my class who play it, so at least I'm not the only Spyro fan in the class. ^.^ Though they haven't finished it yet, I might tell them about DS. (Yeah, sorry, sorta off-topic.)

A classics fan though I am, I will admit that LOS had its good points, and loads of potential. With real writers and tonnes of work it could have been something really special. A combination of classic and new, if done right could be something magical.

Playable charters that don't emulate Spyro
Multi-hit combat system without hoards of enemies
large areas separated by portals
A spunky young Spyro with a soft heart (this would be a very delicate,volatile balance)
Many different charters of varying species (MOAR DRAGONS! OF SPYRO'S AGE!)
Mini-games and vehicle (eg. you could LOS-ify the flying saucer with a miniature version of the flying pirate ship with a canon as opposed to a disk with a lazer canon)
swimming underwater
free flight (with improvements)
power ups (ie. supercharge, invinciblity)
multiple breath abilities (should only be gained after a training session)
HUMOR! LOTS AND LOTS OF HUMOR!
Fitting music, varying between upbeat to 'epic'

What would you include into an LOS classic mix? I mean to make it more LOS-ish.

I guess some love could exist, but I think it should progress over the course of more games before it becomes totally canon, y'know?

I don't mind dark stories, so longs as it's not so dark that it weighs on you throughout the game. Also, given that Spyro and Cynder just defeated the Dark Master himself, I just can't see any more dark and terrible evil arising for some time.

Well, Spyro could be digusted at the thought of love since he can both spunky and compassionate when it comes to saving the world, until later on when he meets someone like Cynder.

Who knows? Maybe a new threat will rise some time after Malefor's defeat.

Yeah, but about the few games between that evil?
And I thought we were talking about the next game, with all the characters already having been introduced, as opposed to an LOS remake with old Spyro mixed in.

How could we mix the look of the old and new Spyro? I REALLY preffer classic Spyro's crest, and tail spike, and new Spyro's horns don't look all that useful, seing as the points aren't aimed directly at what he's charging. The classic Spyro's snout is also much better. I will say the new Spyro has better wings though.

The new Spyro knocks his enemies back when he charges, instead of instantly killing them in one blow like the Old Spyro does.

I means about thier appearances, but that works. How many hits do you thjink it should take to kill an enemy? I'm thinking 3-5 for non bosses/elite enemies. Maybe three for small enemies, four for medium ones, and five for the larger ones.

I say three hits would kill a smaller enemy, four to five hits would take down a medium-sized enemy, and five or more would take down a larger enemy.

Mix:
Graphics and soundtrack quality of TLoS
Challenge
Interesting storyline with very few or no plotholeS
Harder enemies (Weaker enemies need only 2/3 hits to kill and strong ones need to be beaten with combat, but armoured enemies need to be defeated with stradegy)
Fun and classic but not tedious gameplay
Non-Sue/Stu characters
Unique things
Keep co-op, but improve it

Sounds good, but I think a mix of classic and LOS music would be cool. Like Synthesizer sounds and also orchestration and a little chorus mixed together (I think it could be done) or upbeat stuff in the light parts of the story and serious orchestration in the dark bits.

Or, upbeat synth music in the happy bits, dark serious orchestration in the serious bits, and a mix of synth and orchestra in battle and mini games.

Just spit balling.

A Spyro game mixed with qualities of both the old and the new Spyro will probably good, without no conflicts between the two sides.

I like both, because they're so different that you CAN'T compare them to one another. It's like comparing a Wii to a PSP - entirely different, it's just not right to say one is better than the other.

The originals are cute and innovative, something great to play when you just want to relax at night before going to bed. It gives you a happy feeling, and it doesn't (usually) make you want to throw your remote out the window.

TLoS is a decent attempt to create a plot for something so simple. If you're looking for a bit more challenge, but still something easy enough to breeze through, they're great. It's enjoyable for most 8-12 year olds, and something parents can feel at ease with their kids playing.

Both are good games, but for different reasons.

You're right about the age range. It's funny, so many people thing the games are adult like because they're dark.

Heck no. They're not even that dark. You want dark, go play Heavy Rain.
