It's been a while since we were told anything new about the next game. Now we've been told that the movie has been cancelled and we were told that they're taking Spyro in a new direction (//forum.darkspyro.net/spyro/viewposts.php?topic=28689). I REALLY can't wait to see what the next game will be like. Anybody feel the same?

That's the same question i've been asking after i'd finish the game. Although i wouldn't want to know everything about next game cuz it would spoil the fun.

Yes, I'm excited about what they do with the next game. I may have been disappointed with DotD, but I can't deny I like the Spyro series in general. xD
Since they said they were taking it in a new direction, that's more reason to believe that they're continuing with the Spyro storyline. :D

You know, I think they should introduce more characters/species in th next game. I always thought it was a little odd that Spyro never made friends with pheonixes, unicorns, gryphons, or elves. And above all we NEED more young dragons of BOTH genders.

Activision will let us know what kind of Spyro game they've been working on. Hopefully, sometime in May in E3 or some other game convention.

E3's in June, yet most games that they talk about at E3 have already been announced earlier in the year or if they announce it for the first time at E3 it usually means that its gonna come out next year... But, they always seam to have a trailer or game play of some type whenever they do this... So if they do announce it at E3 then it'll be something to look forwards to... |

What about Nintendo DS games? There could be a new Spyro game only for the DS.
... Heck, there could even be a brand-new trilogy on the DS like they did with the GBA Spyro. That'd be pretty cool, actually. |

I'd love to know what they're doing next. By 'new direction', they could be going back to Old Spyro, or taking the LOS characters down another road. Or even doing another reboot ( which would be a REALLY bad idea in my opinion).

I think another reboot, though redundant (right word?) might be wise. There's old fans who dislike LOS and LOS fans who dislike the old, so why not try and appease them both by restaring the franchise with aspects of both eras? Or maybe they'll do something totally different, unlike old or LOS. Who among us can say for sure?

You won't find many people that like TLoS but hate the old series, I don't think it would be practical to make another re-boot... They lost hundreds of Spyro fans when they made TLoS in the first place, and another re-boot could make them loose even more is they're not careful... |

I like that idea Free Bird; I first heard it said by Gwenio on Activision forums and then spread around a bit here myself. That should make for two games a year, assuming they make an old and new style game at the same time. Two different companies would be needed of course. If they were going to do that though I'd want more than the look of the classics. I'd want the same atmosphere, tone, gameplay, kind of music, voices, etc.

I agree. I think they should continue in the TLoS universe, but re-introduce characters like Elora, Zoe, Flame, Ember, and more younger dragons. Quote: NEW_SpyroLUVA
I definitely Do not think they should do another reboot. They shouldn't forget everything that TLoS brought such as Cynder and the Guardians, etc. Plus, there would STILL be complaints that it doesn't beat the original. Of course it doesn't beat the original, for the majority of fans. Nothing ever does. People critisize the games too much. People constantly complained about ETD and AHT, which led to TLoS. If we don't want another reboot, I suggest pepole stop being too picky. The Original games are gone, and it's time to realize that. They're in the past. If you like them and hate TLoS, go play them and quit complaining about how much you hate TLoS. There are actually many fans of The Legend of Spyro. I think the best idea would be to continue in TLoS universe, but fix up plot holes they left. Yeah, they made some mistakes, but they're fixable. I mean, come on, can you really play an entire trilogy and then say it sucked? They can spunk up Spyro's personality, work on the character designs, and add characters left behind[Like Elora, Bianca Zoe, Flame, Ember, and new character] |

I didn't hate LOS isn the start. It was DotD that just overpowered the good of ANB and TEN. As it is now, I don't think anything in the Spyro franchise will top the originals, but it is perfectly possible for Activision to create something that is still good and fun. Also, who's to say they couldn't keep the characters introduced in LOS and also bring back theose form the classics, not to mention keep and reintroduce aspects like currency, free flight, loads of collectibles and unlockables, melee and multi breaths, power ups, aerial obstical courses, training arenas, etc.

That's true. It could make Classic fans happier too, if they were just to reboot, but I know there would still be critisism. If they rebooted it again and recieved loads of critisism, don't you think they might just give up with Spyro?? I enjoyed the LoS plotline as well, even if some did think it was too cliche and unoriginal, and I actually enjoyed DotD as well. But I do understand why other people hate it.
But if they just continued from TLoS, not rebooting, but adding spunk to Spyro and bring back classic characters, (plus games and mini games) like you said from the original games, I think it could have the same effect without erasing TLoS |

Developers really don't have much of a. . . voice in the matter. Publishers control everything, and they are the ones who give the green light or not . Developers can easily drop a game if they feel that it won't won't give them a good reputation, but most Developers don't know a lot of Publisher willing to take the risk on them making a game out of their own head .
From what I learned in my Development class, its best to know a lots of other Developers so if they need help, on a project and you don't have one, you can help them out (don't expect to get paid, but you will be greatly thanked for it). I guess you might say that its every Developers dream to become a Publisher so they can call the shots. Its why I mostly blame Activision for what TLOS is and why they allowed the Developers to do what they did, or provide very little resources for them to actually make TLOS epic . |

Activision didn't come into the picture till about halfway through DotD, same with EL. Many say the switch to EL cause a lot of the plotholes, but now that I think of it, I guess it is really Activision's fault for saying EL was going to make the game, assuming it was they who made the choice.
