Chapter 8

Malefor followed The Hermit deep into the heart of the Swamp. While he was following the gray cheetah, Malefor thought about Spark and his father. Why did I leave him?Malefor moaned to himself. Malefor also wondered how he breathed wind. Wind was an old, and ancient element that hadn’t been around in centuries. There was only one wind dragon at the Temple, his name was Cloudwing. Cloudwing was old and slowly dying, and he was the last of his kind. “Are we there yet?” Malefor couldn’t help to ask this annoying question. The Hermit cackled. “Be patient, young dragon.” Malefor sighed and continued to follow The Hermit.

They walked for many more hours, until they reached a small cave. The Hermit crawled inside, and waited for Malefor to follow. Malefor padded inside the cave and sat down. “So…what are you goanna teach me first?” Malefor asked. The Hermit narrowed his eyes. “Make a fire,” The Hermit hissed. “Wait, what?” Malefor spluttered, startled. The last time Malefor had made a fire, he had almost destroyed the Temple. “Do it, don’t ask questions!” The Hermit growled. Malefor blinked and did as he was told. He breathed a small flame onto some twigs and branches. A giant orange flame licked up the twigs, as smoke formed around it. The Hermit smiled. “Excellent…you seem to breathe fire even though you have no fire blood.” “Ah, yeah. I guess.” Malefor shrugged. “I can also breathe ice, and wind too, I think.” Malefor added. The Hermit nodded. “Good, good…now, look into the fire.” Malefor blinked. “You want me to look into the fire?” He asked.
“No questions!”
“Alright, sorry, just asking.”
“Now, feel the fire burn through your soul, feel the construction it brings…feel the flames that the Golems breathe…-” “Sorry, but, um, how is this teaching me anything?” Malefor quietly butted in. “Aaa-yeeiah! Watch the flames! Watch the flames!” The Hermit snarled. Malefor gulped. “O-okay, watching the fire…” he mumbled. What is the point of this? I should be going back to the Temple!
Malefor stared deep into the fire. It licked up the remaining twigs, and burnt them to ashes. Suddenly, an image appeared in the fire. It looked like a giant purple dragon. There where other images, too, other pictures of dragons. The purple dragon seemed to be killing the other dragons.
Malefor blinked, and stumbled back. “The purple dragon, in the fire, it looks…” he mumbled. “Like you!” The Hermit croaked. “Because that dragon in the fire is you! This is what you shall bring for dragon kind, and the rest of this miserable world! You will become like a god, everyone afraid of you! Because you are the first purple dragon! A dragon like no other. You must master your abilities, and you-” “Stop, stop, stop! I don’t believe this!” Malefor cried. “Just leave me alone!” “But this is your destiny,” The Hermit hissed. “You can’t run away from it.” Malefor then blew out a frosty blast of ice and wind, freezing out the fire. He then turned away from the snow leopard, and fled.

Dark, despair…darkness will consume your soul…chaos…chaos…destruction…
All this thoughts burned in Malefor’s mind. That’s all he could think about. Ever since his encounter with The Hermit, the strange gray cheetah, he’d been thinking of these thoughts ever since. Another thought also zipped into his mind. Spark. He had forgotten all about the orange dragonfly that had tried to help him find his father. Father. Salmu. What would Salmu do to him after Malefor had blown him away with his new found wind breath? Will his father ever forgive him? Likely not. Not to mention that Malefor almost burned the Temple to ashes. Temple. Home. Mellina, his baby brother Gadzooks, Ignitus, Volteer, Terrador, Amber, Silver…all of his friends, who probably think that he’s long gone dead. But one thing for sure, Malefor had to return to the Temple. Even if his mother may kill him when he got back, it was the only place he could go. Malefor spread out his dark purple wings, and started to run. He flapped them wildly until he took flight- back off to the Temple.

Chapter 9

Malefor soared over the clouds as the wind whipped through his wings. What was he supposed to say to the others? How will he tell them? Malefor shook his head and flapped his wings harder. He soon saw the Temple, still wondering if he should go back or not…but Malefor had too, this was his home, the place of his birth. Malefor glided down onto the ground and tucked in his wings. He slowly walked up to the Temple, not sure what he was going to say when he met the other dragons. “Hello?” Malefor called softly. “Malefor?…is that you?” cried a voice. Malefor turned around, to see Fern, Terrador’s sister. Malefor blinked. “Um, yeah, it’s me.” Malefor mumbled, not sure what to say. Fern looked at him, for what seemed like days. “We…we all thought you and Salmu were dead,” She whispered. “What?” he cried. I was gone that long? Malefor thought.
“Yeah, Mellina was crying for days. And even Gadzooks knew that something was wrong, even though he’s only a few weeks old.” Fern continued. “Anyway, why the hell did you leave!?” Fern screamed, lashing her tail. Malefor looked down at his paws. “I had to find my father,” Malefor replied, still not looking at the earth dragon. “Yeah, but you could of at least told us!” Fern hissed. “We would of helped!” she growled. he gulped, still not looking at her. “Come on, we’ve got to tell the others.” Fern said, flicking her tail for Malefor to follow her. He nodded and quickly padded after her. What the hell am I supposed to say?! he asked himself, biting his lip.

“MALEFOR!” Mellina screeched, charging towards her son and Fern. Mellina smacked into Malefor, squeezing him to death. “We all thought you were dead!” She cried. “Y-yeah, um, I was-” Malefor tried to explain, but his mother slapped him. Malefor blinked. “W-what was that for?” he spluttered. Fern croaked with laughter. “WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU!?” Mellina screamed. He gulped. “I…I was looking for Dad.” Mellina blinked. “Y-you were?” She croaked. “Hey, it’s Malefor!” shouted a familiar voice. Malefor looked around to see Fireheart, Zaria, Silver, Terrador, Ignitus, Volteer, Amber, even Cyril and Crystal. “Malefor! Where were you? We thought you were dead!” Amber snorted, slapping him over the shoulder. Malefor winced. “Yeah, I can explain…” “Yeah, explain why you’ve been gone for like, almost a week or something?” Terrador growled. Gee, I’ve got a lot of explaining to do…he thought sighing.

After Malefor had explained where had been to everyone, Mellina wouldn’t let her son out of her sight. “I thought you were dead!” She cried, squeezing Malefor to death. Malefor coughed. “C-choking…c-can’t b-breathe.” He spluttered. Mellina didn’t care, she just continued hugging her son. “Even Gadzooks was upset when you were gone,” Mellina continued. Fern had told Malefor this the other day. “You should go see him.” She added. “Where is he?” Malefor asked. “He’s playing with the other baby dragons,” She told him. Mellina let go of Malefor. Suddenly there was a loud squeal and a blue and purple baby dragon came charging towards him. It was Gadzooks!
Malefor charged towards Gadzooks and the two brothers made a massive collision. “Big browther!” Gadzooks squeaked, hugging him. Malefor smiled and hugged his little brother. I’m surprised Gadzooks even remembered me, he thought. Mellina padded over to her two sons. “Malefor, I never got to ask you this question.” Mellina said. Malefor looked up at his mother. “Yes?”
“Did you find your father?” She asked. He froze. What was he supposed to tell her? He couldn’t say he blew Salmu away with his wind breath. Gadzooks titled his head to one side. “Dada?…” he mumbled. Malefor sighed. “I couldn’t find him,” he lied. Mellina’s wings dropped, her eyes darkened.
She padded away without saying another word. “Mama? Mama!” Gadzooks yelped and charged after his mother. If Mum ever found out that I blew Salmu away, what would she say? Malefor asked himself. He didn’t want to find out.

Chapter 10

A few days later, everything was back to normal. All the young dragons were at their training, learning combat skills and their elemental powers. Malefor hadn’t told anyone about his wind element, although the dragon Elders and Guardians were giving him strange looks, especially Cloudwing, the last wind dragon.
One day, Malefor was casually walking past the Elders nest, scraping off some dead bracken from the stone walls for the Elders, when Cloudwing suddenly sprang to his feet. Malefor, surprised, blinked at the old male dragon. What had gotten into this old dragon? “Um, are you okay sir?” Malefor asked gently. Cloudwing didn’t say anything, he just stared at him. Okay, I’m seriously freaked out here. Malefor thought, stepping back a little. “Cloudwing?” he asked, more louder this time.
“Y-you,” The gray-and-white dragon rasped. “…the purple dragon shall bring fourth a new age.” Cloudwing continued, still not taking his gaze off Malefor. What is this old fart talking about? Malefor thought, swishing his tail.
Another dragon Elder, Goldenia, a fire dragon, blinked up at Cloudwing and then at Malefor. “Cloudwing hasn’t spoken for weeks,” Goldenia said, her eyes widening. “Maybe it’s a prophecy.” There was a loud grunt from the other side of the Elders nest. “Nah, Cloudwings close to death anyway, he’s probably seeing things.” Grunted Moss-eye, a old male earth dragon.

Sorry it isn't long, but that's all I've got for now.

“No…” Rasped Cloudwing. “Malefor…the purple dragon…shall become a god.” Malefor almost choked with laughter. How sad…this old dragon thinks I’m a god! Ha! “A god! You can’t be serious!” Malefor laughed. Goldenia narrowed her eyes. “Cloudwing, are you serious? Is it a sign?” She asked gently. Moss-eye barked with laughter. “He’s losing his mind! That’s what! Ha-aha!” Moss-eye chuckled. Goldenia hissed.
Cloudwing stared at Malefor, not blinking. “It’s a sign…” he carried on, ignoring Moss-eye’s and Malefor’s laughter. Goldenia got to her paws and walked quickly out of the room. Malefor stopped laughing, seeing Goldenia leave, and ran after the old fire dragon. “Goldenia, wait! Where are you going?” he called, catching up to her. “I have to tell the Guardians,” Goldenia hissed.
Malefor spluttered. “W-what? Cloudwing can’t be serious! He’s just old, and well…losing his mind a bit. He’s probably just seeing things.”
Goldenia ignored him and carried on walking into the Grotto, where the four dragon Guardians were talking to each other. Thunder, the electricity Guardian, blinked, surprised, and looked at Goldenia then at Malefor.
“Goldenia, Malefor. What is the matter?” he asked. Sokka got to his paws and narrowed his eyes. “Shouldn’t you be in the Elders nest?” Malefor’s grandfather growled. Asura and Blaze stood up, and looked at Goldenia and then at Malefor. “Yes, what brings you here?” Asura said calmly.
“Cloudwing has seen a omen,” Goldenia said, glaring at Sokka.
Thunder’s, Sokka’s, Blaze’s, and Asura’s eyes widened. “He has seen what?” Blaze sputtered. “Yes, he said that a purple dragon-” she glanced at Malefor -”will bring a new age, and become a god.” Sokka cracked up with laughter. “What!? A god? That’s the most stupidest thing I’ve heard all day!” Sokka laughed. Blaze sighed. “Are you sure? You do know that Cloudwing is close to death, Goldenia.” Goldenia nodded. “Yes, I’m sure. I know, it sounds stupid, but I know that Cloudwing is right. There’s something special about Malefor…not just his colour, but you all know he can breathe fire and ice.”
“And wind,” Malefor quietly added. All the dragons whipped the heads round and stared at Malefor. Sokka stopped laughing. “You can what? Breathe fart, too? Ha-ha!” Sokka carried on laughing again. Asura smacked her tail on Sokka’s head. “Ooww! What the hell was that for?” Sokka snarled, rubbing his head with his wing. “Do you realize what this means?” Asura asked the other Guardians. Thunder nodded. “Yes, Malefor is the dragon we’ve been waiting for.” I am what!? Malefor thought. “You will become like a god, everyone afraid of you! Because you are the first purple dragon! A dragon like no other…” The Hermit’s words echoed in Malefor’s head. Was it true?
