The earliest images were a lot shinyer(sp?). Remember that most of the screenshots were for PS3. What console did you play it on?

Dont double post please, there is an edit button. But to answer your question anyway...

Xbox 360 is less underpowered to the PS3, the PS3 has lighter and a little more detailed graphics compared to the Xbox 360

dotd game covers made spyro look like he had scales, but he doesn't really look like that. and yeah the first screen shots looked awesome. or at least, awesomer than the game. all spyro games are awesome.
