He sacrificed his life to put the world back together. Then he ends up in the stars. But then the chronicler says, "I can't find any trace of him."
And Ignitus comments, "...where might you be?"
Then it shows the cutscene with them ALIVE.
Do you think they're dead, and that was the past in that cutscene?

The Chronicler's conversation with Ignitus goes as follows:
Ignitus: And... what of Spyro? Is he... The Chronicler: Hmm... that is the question, isn't it? You see, each time a dragon dies, a new page is written in this book. I've done my best, but I can't seem to find any trace of Spyro. I take it that means he can't find any page about Spyro in the book, so Spyro is in fact not dead. Besides, he flies with Cynder at the end after Ignitus says "Where might you be?"

Yeah, that's what I thought, cause of the Chroniclers comment. But then again, Ignitus mentioned that dragons don't leave this world once they die... so it could be spyro and cynder flying around dead... but they weren't trasparent...
I could go on and one about conflicting reasons lol it makes my head hurt. |

They'll come up with some daft reason along those lines. Because Spyro can do everything and everyone would sulk if he died.

Unless that was a flashback, spyro_madgirl.
The only thing that's tripping me up is that comment Ignitus made... "when a dragon dies". Do you think he resurrected himself after he was killed in the process of healing the earth? That's the only conclusion I can come too... Like NEW_spyroLUVA said, "He's alive BUT HOW!!!!????" ...My question exactly. |

I honestly don't think Spyro is technically alive anymore. If he hadn't had Cynder with him in the end, he'd be fully dead, but since she was there, I think both of them are sort of between life and death, just like the Chronicler. He and Cynder are now the heart of their world and they will forever be children and guardians. As long as the world survives, they will be its heart/spirit.

Ya know... I'm honestly tending toward your theory Razz. It just makes sense...except for their non-spiritual bodies in the end cutscene.

Ah, but the Chronicler had a physical body as well, but we now know that a dragon must die in order to take that role. I think Spyro and Cynder are the same. They have physical bodies, but those bodies are incapable of aging or dying because the dragons who inhabit them have died already and are sort of spirits. It's a little hard to explain, but it makes sense in my head and the games themselves set a precedent for this being possible (it's implied that Malefor was in this same condition in DotD).

Because he wasn't the Chronicler at that point. He said himself that he was a spirit (and a part of the element of fire) at that time.

Oh weird. Then why was he flesh just before he became the chronicler? (as he walks into the chroniclers presence?) Because he's occupied a body again?
|
Razz Platinum Sparx Gems: 6124 |
#20 Posted: 03:46:59 28/09/2009
Partly, it's a plothole. But if you want a explanation for that one, it's probably just that Ignitus got his body back (or something like it) because he was about to become the Chronicler. The games are sort of unclear about what the Chronicler is and how much interactions a purple dragon can have with the spirit world.

Of course he's alive, it's confirmed that he is. Some fans misunderstand the ending and say Spyro and Cynder died, but when other fans listen to the Chronicler say he couldn't find any trace of Spyro in the Book of Death, that means he's still alive somewhere in the world.

The Chronicler didn't find him in the book of the dead, but he didn't find Spyro anywhere else. I don't think he's alive, but I don't think he's dead, either. He's in between the two and something entirely different.

Technically spyro didn't kill him tho Razz. Dragon spirits finished him off. And his body, not his soul. |

I'm still not convinced he even had a body. And of course Spyro didn't finish him off; Spyro couldn't. But since Malefor was partially a spirit, the spirits were the ones who finished him.
This still supports the argument that spirits and creatures that exist between life and death are pretty common in LoS. |

He looked like flesh and responded like he had flesh when you attacked him in the first stage. Why else would they cause him to make a shield around him in the third stage? Because his body was vulnerable, right?

This is something that is something of a plothole. The game never even explains how Malefor got a body to begin with (we never saw him in TEN and in DotD he's just...there, body and all). Just because he can't die or has no fear of loosing his body doesn't mean he'd want to go through it again.

In ANB, his spirit was released. In TEN, his phsical body was released from under the mountain. Of course Malefor was a real being!
That wasn't spyro in the stars at the end. That was IGNITUS

In ANB, the Dark Master wasn't released. His prison door (so to speak) was unlocked, but he could not free himself until the Night of Eternal Darkness. In DotD, he even confirms this by saying he needed Spyro in the Well of Souls in order to free himself.
I think the Chronicler is some freaky dead-not-dead spirit dragon thingy. But I also am not convinced that he wasn't evil, so... And the dragon in the stars is purple. It's Spyro. |

I think the Chronicler was messing with Ignitus.
And that when Spyro pulled the world together, That Spyro died, Then he brought Spyro back to life somplace. (Among the thousands of times he died because of numero uno behind the controls) But back to my first statement. That the Chronicler says he didn't know, To get Ignitus to page through all the books. Not that Ignitus only cares that Spyro lived and brushed off the duty of what it ment to be the Chronicler.
