Growl trotted about. Her white claws clicked on the hard, rocky surface.

In the distance, Moonlight saw Growl. (She didn't know who it was, though) She walked closer

Growl saw something moving closer. Could it be food?

Kargolo had had a mighty meal. Still, he flew through the skies above, searching for more. In the distance, he saw two more wolves, one approaching slowly, the other not moving, but watching intently. He started to fly down, landing on a large tree. He watched from the shadows of the branches.

"We'll work this out back at the cave." Scott said, looking at Alyx. He turned to Matilda. "And as for you," He said, glaring at her. "We can either take you with us, or leave you here." "Your choice."

Meanwhile, back at Trojan's cave, Lila was getting worried. "Will you be able to patch Delgato up again?" She asked Trojan worriedly.

Makoto was sniffing around looking for food.

Moonlight trotted over to Growl. "W..Who are you?" She said with fear.

He could hear one of them speak, although he could only translate it as a growl from where he stood. He started to climb higher into the tree, rustling the branches. Was his cover blown?

Meanwhile, back at Trojan's cave, Lila was getting worried. "Will you be able to patch Delgato up again?" She asked Trojan worriedly.

"Leave me. I don't know what else I have to really do except lay here. I have nowhere to go." Matilda growls.

Alyx looks at Scott.

Trojan nods.
"Matilda didn't injure Delgato too much."

"Fine." Scott said. "Come on, Alyx." He muttered, turning and walking in the direction of Trojan's cave.

"That's good." Lila said.

Matilda closed her eyes and sighed.

Alyx began to walk with Scott, but stopped and looked back at Matilda.

Trojan padded around the cave, collecting herbs.
"You may not believe this, but Matilda has a good side. She took a wrong turn on the path of life. Her parents left her and her older brother beat her up as well as many other packs. My pack took her in, and she took on the cold shoulder that she had learned from all the other wolves that beat her up as a pup." he said to Lila.

Scott turned around and asked, "What is it?"

Lila nodded. "So... She was beaten up? Has she ever known any real kindness?" She asked.

Alyx looked at Scott.
"I-i just don't want to leave her."

Trojan shook his head.
"Sadly, no. She's only learned pain and coldness. No one was kind to her. She learned that the ropes were you had to be harsh in order to survive."

"We won't, then." Scott replied. He walked back to Matilda. "Come on," he said. "You can come with us."

Lila nodded and replied, "We should help her then, show her some kindness, and maybe we could even become friends."

Matilda snapped her jaws.
"I said leave me."

Trojan shook his head.
"It won't be easy."

Scott ignored Matilda and said, "Alyx, help me with her. I doubt she'll come quietly."

Lila nodded, understanding. "But I'm willing to try. Everyone needs a friend."

Alyx nodded, and ignoring Matilda's jaws, helped Scott.

Trojan nodded and smiled.
"Glad that someone's willing to try."

"Let's get her back to Trojan's place." Scott said.

Lila smiled back. "Do you need anything?" She asked. "You've been so busy helping us, I never asked you if you needed help."

Trojan smiled.
"Not at all! That is very kind of you though. I'm very used to being this busy."

Alyx nods and helps Scott escort Matilda to Trojan.

Lila stopped as the two entered with Matilda. "Are you two alright?" She asked. "I was getting worried."

"We're fine." Scott replied. "But Matilda needs her foot tended to."

Matilda growled.
"You're one to talk. You broke my foot."

Alyx limped to Delgato and nudged him with her muzzle.

"Do you want it to stay broken?!" Scott snarled. "You tried to kill Alyx, but we're helping you anyway!"

Lila stayed silent for a moment, and then turned to Alyx. "He'll be fine." She murmured.

Matilda snarled.
"I don't get it! Why DO you help me?! You could have just let me die!"

Alyx looked at Lila and nodded.

"I'm helping you because somewhere inside of you, there's a good side, despite what you may think." Scott replied, a bit more softly. "I'm not going to give up on you, and you shouldn't give up on yourself."

For once, Matilda smiled.
"You know, thanks. If you say to not give up, I won't. Thanks for...caring."

Scott smiled back. "No problem." He said. He went a few feet away and laid down so Trojan could work.

As Trojan walked by Scott, he smiled.
"Matilda must have a crush on you. She never smiles."

Scott smiled back. "I think I have a crush on her too." He said.

Trojan smiled.
"That's wonderful. I think you make Matilda happy."

Matilda looked at Scott and smiled shyly before looking away.

Scott looked back at Matilda. "I certainly hope so." He replied.

Matilda tried to keep calm while Trojan snapped her foot back, but it was too painful so she ended up moving away every time.

"Scott, could you help me out? It would really be helpful if you could calm Matilda down." Trojan called.

Scott nodded and went over to Matilda. "You have to hold still while he puts your foot back in place." He said. "Or you won't get better." He turned to Trojan. "Do you have a sturdy stick, by any chance?" He asked.

Matilda shakes her head.
"Scott's words are good enough. I don't need a stick. Let's get this foot over with."

Trojan nods and Matilda takes a sharp breath as her foot is snapped back into place. Matilda gives a small whimper of pain.

Scott smiled. "Can you move your foot at all?" He asked.

Matilda nods and flexes it painfully.
"Yeah."

"That's good." Scott replied, not knowing what else to say. He turned to Trojan. "Thank you." He said. He then turned to Lila, who had fallen asleep next to Delgato and Alyx. "We can't afford too many other injuries." He thought. He laid next to Matilda and sighed with relief. They were out of danger, at least for now.

Trojan smiled.
"No problem."

Matilda looked at Scott as he laid down beside her. She rested her head against his paw.
"Thanks, for everything." she said to him quietly.

"My pleasure." Scott murmured back, smiling. "What a day, huh?"

Matilda smiled and nodded.
"Yeah." she says. She lifts her head to look at Scott. "You know, if you have a crush on me, there's not much about me to like. I'm pretty cold." she said, her white ears drooping, her sharp purple eyes soft and sad.

"That's not true." Scott replied. "I mean, sure, you can act cold, but underneath everything you've been through, you have a good side, as I've said before." "You're not afraid to stand up for yourself and others, you don't give up, at least not from what I've seen, and you're beautiful."

Matilda looked at him shyly.
"You mean it, don't you? I can tell. You're really nice, Scott. You make me wish I wasn't the way I am. I'm not that beautiful, though I wish I was. I do stand up for everyone, but it didn't get me anywhere. My brother kept bullying me, my parents always yelled at me."

"Why did they do all of that to you?" Scott replied. "What did you ever do to them?" He paused before adding, "Well, I think you're beautiful, even if you don't believe you are."

Matilda smiled.
"Thanks." she said. She then frowned. "Let me tell you something. I was runt of the litter. My brother was the strongest so my parents loved him the most. My parents expected really high expectations of me, which I was never able to live up to. So they yelled at me, and my brother and the rest of the litter picked on me."

"I'm so sorry." Scott said. "That's terrible." He paused for a moment, then said, "I didn't have any brothers or sisters." "I didn't even know my father." "My mother taught me how to survive, but I think it was harder for her the day I left than it was for me."

Matilda nodded and her ears drooped.
"Trojan, is my brother."

"Wait a second...." Scott replied. "If you're Alyx's cousin, and Trojan's your brother, that means...." He thought for a second before saying, "Alyx's childhood friend was her cousin that she didn't know was her cousin, and since you and Alyx probably didn't know you were cousins until you were grown up, you probably already hated each other, so it became some sort of family feud, right?"
