I've added about 15 "friends" to my Lost Islands over the past week and still the only gifters have been "Aura" and my wife.
Is this a glitch or everyone basically a deadbeat here ?

I am not sure if there is an actual way to do that. You can always look on your Activate page to see when someone logged in last if it gets to be a week since they logged in I usually remove them,
