Also, I'm pretty the sure the SNES is not backwards compatible with the NES. In fact, you could say the Wii was when Nintendo started to have backwards compatibility on their consoles (I mean, PlayStation was already doing it as was the 360 since it came out a year before the Wii). >.>

^ That's true, the only way that you can play both NES and SNES game cartridges on one console is to use one of those "Dual" consoles like I mentioned above.

Well then, that would mean that the whole compatibility thing started with the Wii and/or the GameBoyAdvance.

Well I think the Game Boy Advanced would be the first instance. Although handhelds would be much easier to port since they're all cartridge technology. <.<

Edit: So in the most recent GameInformer issue, Shigeru Miyamoto answered some burning questions about the Mario series. Namely, he states the Koopalings "are not Bowser's kids. There's only Bowser Jr., and we don't know who the mother is."

WHAT THE HELL DON'T RUIN MY CHILDHOOD LIKE THAT.

Heh, so the GBA was the first, although I don't see that much of a difference between a console and a handheld.

But anyway, remarking what you just said about the Koopalings... that is truly a revelation. Everybody thought that they were Bowser's kids, and that Bowser Jr. was the youngest of the bunch. But hey, if they aren't Bowser's kids... then that would mean that he adopted them?
... Oh, and one more thing. Remember that in the Mario World, children aren't born the way they are for real, they are brought in by the Stork. Remember? Yoshi's Island? So maybe a stork brought them to him, without necessarily having the need of a mother...

Well true, that's because there are so many games, that you don't know which one is canon. The series is so extensive, it is practically impossible to create a timeline of it. And further more, lately, a lot of Mario games are being created for pure entertainment, and they rarely have a concrete storyline. And those who do have a storyline, it is way too similar to some previous game smilie

So now we have Boom Boom, the Koopalings, AND Bowser Jr in one game (what's next, Kamek)? Does Nintendo just not want to make original boss battles anymore or are they secretly saving something for a new 3D Mario game? >.>

I'd bet on saving it for a new 3D game. Galaxy had a new boss in pretty much every galaxy and sometimes multiple bosses in one galaxy so I wouldn't be surprised if that's why the New Bros games have been getting the shaft in terms of bosses.

... I think they have a pattern. You see, Nintendo still has, somehow, keep earning money. So, I bet that they release games similar to previous ones or just doing remakes so that they can work on something big and original.

But of course, if they work on one single game for months, even years, then how are they are going to get the money for it? They will just keep working on something unoriginal and "cheap" to kill time and earn money so that when the time comes, they can release something original and big.

^ I agree, maybe like Donkey Kong 64 or a StarTropics sequel (but with upgraded 3D graphics with a 3rd-person view on the Wii U, that would be amazing smilie). I actually wished that they made a squeal to Super Mario Sunshine; it's one of my favorite Mario games and I like it more than the Super Mario Galaxy series.

DK64 sequel is unlikely as it was a RAREWARE game (although given Retro Studios' recent outing, I'd say they could handle it). I've heard rumors that Nintendo's new "business" model is essentially using Mario games as sort of a "gateway game". By which I mean they've dumb down the formula in order to attract new (usually young) gamers in the hopes they'll buy the other, more mature series (Zelda, Metroid, etc) when they come out. <.<;

I am beginning to think that Nintendo is starting to make games just to make money. They don't put their hearts into it as they use to. Although they are still making great games, but not as much as they use to. I really don't like the idea of buying or allying with new businesses.
And RareWare is the best example. They use to do such amazing games by itself and with Nintendo until Microsoft bought the company smilie

^I've noticed this too and it began about when the Wii System came out. Games aren't like they used to be; I miss how great the RareWare games were such as Banjo Kazooie/Tooie, Donkey Kong 64 (plus all of the Donkey Kong country games made by them), Golden Eye, Killer Instinct, ect. Games are now just mass produced and rushed to the shelves for a quick buck but they lack all of the engaging features, game-play, story lines, and extra content. I don't think games will ever be made the same again, unfortunately.
