I have always wondered about the existance of dragons.

I think they were/are still real.

I mean really, so the many legends from all across the globe was created by some nerd who said "LyK OMg!1 I saw Dis lizard deh oder day, and it had wingz and it cood breafe fire!1"

They porabaly died out, like the dinosaurs. Or, they have learned to stay away from humans, and live in uninhabited places.
