well, to be fair, it proves 8as much as one can online) that the guy has the toy in hand and isn't just showing a stock image. as for "scalping" the bidding started at $.01. That it's over $40 now is the fault of impatient people, not the seller.

You can prove the same thing by writing today's date and your Ebay ID on a piece of paper and take a photo of it.

Scalping is scalping. Had there be any chance it would sell for less than a profit, he wouldn't have started it at $0.01. Obviously no way to prove that, but you and I both know its true. But yes, people supporting scalpers are equally to blame.

I have always said that you can be mad at scalpers, but people who support them also deserve some blame and so does, Acti for not making more available at release time.

It bugs me more when people who don't know any better, your average parent, gets sucked into buying the pre-orders on ebay for something like Molten Hot Dog and it is going to be available at cost soon enough.

Pre-order for Scarlet Ninjini. What is hilarious is he takes the time to say "THIS LISTING IS WITHIN THE EBAY RULES AND REGULATIONS." as if saying that makes it so. And there is a bidder. What is annoying is how people think that if someone puts up an auction they know something or have an inside way of getting the item. This dude knows nothing more about Scarlet Ninjini than the rest of us, he is simply hoping to sucker someone and the figure comes out soon, where he will just buy it at retail and make a huge profit.

Someone with an eBay ID should report the Scarlet Ninjini ones, there is no way they have any clue they can deliver within the deadline.

Yeah the pre-order thing is such a scam and presents no real risk to the scalper/seller. If they somehow cannot get the product, they just cancel the sale.

Yeah, I hate how pre-orders in general (even in stores) have shifted from "Guaranteed to get a copy when it comes out" into a "Pay us to make sure you buy it here". I give you some money to commit to buying it at your store and you in return commit to having a copy for me (and maybe a little bonus). I've had pre-orders outright cancelled at stores simply because they oversold their allotment, or the teaser price they offered wasn't profitable enough (Newegg). And Gamestop has a long history of not giving out your pre-order bonus "if they don't get enough" (translation: the employees skimmed them when it came in).

I pay money to allay your risk if I do not come in and pick it up for the potential lost sale when it comes out. If you aren't giving me a guarantee to have it (barring a delay) then I am letting you hold my money (or credit card info) for nothing.

I don't do pre-orders. Quantities will always be re-stocked and there isn't any game that I'm willing to shell out $60 to play. Plus, with the nonsense that I've seen with pre-orders, it's not a guarantee anyway.

With the next gen consoles possibly going to more of "cloud" based/digital licensing of games most of the pre-order non-sense will become moot as consumers will just be able to download the new game on the release date as they would a book on to their kindle. Which will hurt the brick and mortar retailers.

This is where Skylanders and Disney Infinity still will offer them a revenue stream by still having a physical component.

I would be surprised if any of the people paying ridiculous prices for "pre-orders" are unaware of the retail price or that it will eventually come to the stores.

My guess is that the people paying these prices, preorder or direct from scalpers who have it in-hand, are fully aware how much it is supposed to cost, know that it will be easily available at retail within a month or so after release, and are simply too impatient, OCD, or just won't say 'no' to their kids' whining.

Well, I my son in general doesn't know when figures are coming out. But he does know that it is unlikely he will get one unless it is a special occasion so we don't get any whining. I get them as soon as I can, but they stay put up until an event calls for him to get one. Ninjini and Molten Hot Dog were one of the extremely rare times that he got it as soon as I got home, but that was because he had gotten a couple figures from his aunt that he already had and we returned - so he was due two replacements for the gift.

In general though, he doesn't know exactly when they come out, and even if he did he knows that he won't get one "just because". Yeah, it's rough at times seeing one I'd like to try out (like Thumpback for close to a month) staring me from the hiding place in my closet. But it does help if I cannot get one the second it hits the stores, so I never even have the temptation to hit up eBay (and I wouldn't even if this weren't the case, I loathe giving scalpers ANY reinforcement). Why pay extra to get one when we aren't going to play it right away anyways?
