Nyght stopped just outside the infirmary door, curiosity tearing at his brain. He stared at the dusty file, afraid of what secrets it may hold.

Ivy's eyes faded back to normal, but her iris's turned red. The Fear was getting ahold of her, calming her down again. She laid back down and lowered her head, whimpering.

"O-okay Dec, I-I'm sorry..." she squeaked and a small voice.

Decibel pulled his claws away. "I'm so sorry I had to do that Ivy, but you don't know what you get like when you let yourself go."

Decibel reached out to comfort his friend, his sister. But Ivy shrank back against the wall, his Fear still gripping her. Decibel sighed and pulled back, knowing it would wear off soon.

Nyght slowly opened the folder. Different pictures and records were crammed into it. Photos from his childhood were clipped to a graph showing his growth. Detailed equasions for his Umbris injections filled nearly three papers. But an old sheet at the back of the manilla folder caught his attention. It was a letter from the Master to one of the head researchers. It was sealed with wax and dated to around three years previously. Nyght's curiosity gripped him again as he broke the seal and opened the letter.

Decibel thought he heard something, and silently approached the doorway. He peeked through the window (being short it's all he can do), and saw Nyght. Decibel would have normally opened the door and greeted him, but Nyght looked deep in concentration with what he was doing.

Subject 12a has shown promising results. His infinite capacity for Umbris is probably his most intriguing attribute. Study more into this as he is trained, and do not worry about resistance, he has been conditioned well. He will complete his mission admirably and absolutely. It is a shame that we must dispose of him afterward. Conduct your studies well.

Malefor

Nyght's heart shattered. Master planned to betray him? Luna was right, I am being controlled. he acknowledged in his head.

Ivy shuddered away the last of the Fear, then moved so she was more comfortable. She groaned from a bit of pain.

Decibel turned away from the window and back to Ivy. "You okay now?"

"Yes, I guess." Ivy said glumly.

"If it helps, Nyght is on his way, and he looks fine."

Nyght blew a few embers onto the file, setting it ablaze. He threw it from him in disgust before composing himself. Nyght turned and calmly pushed open the door. "Ivy? Decibel? You guys okay?"

Ivy's eyes lit up and she smiled. "Nyght!"

"Yep, we're fine, just glad to see you're okay!" Decibel said, scampering over to Nyght. He hugged his leg happily.

Nyght rubbed Decibel's head playfully with his free paw. "You're gonna be okay?" he asked Ivy.

Ivy nodded. "It'll take me a couple of hours for my venom to naturally repair my back, but other than that I'll be just fine."

Nyght smiled. "Luna's dead. I took care of it personally."

"Oh I'm sorry Nyght," Ivy said, feeling guilty. "That was supposed to be my job..."

Nyght crossed to her bed and kissed her cheek. "Don't blame yourself. I'm just relieved you're alive." he said smiling.

Ivy smiled brightly. "So..did you find out why Luna disobeyed Master?" she asked.

"Not really." he half-lied. "I didn't really ask any questions."

"Hmm, I always like to get as much info before I make the kill." Ivy said with an amused look. "It always makes it more fun."

Decibel shot Ivy an uncomfortable look.

"Oh sorry Dec..."

"I was a little ticked at her. Wasn't thinking straight." Nyght chuckled nervously. "I had lost the intel she stole too."

"She stole intel?!"

Nyght nodded. "I think she was trying to give it to our enemies."

Ivy hissed a little in the back of her throat. "How I wish I could have seen her fall..."

"Must have been a defect, otherwise she wouldn't have betrayed Malefor, right?" Nyght asked.

"Must have...either that or the stories about Cynder got to her head." Ivy said with a nod.

Nyght's private thoughts slipped his tounge. "What if there was a good reason?" He clamped his paw over his muzzle. He had never uttered blasphemy before.

"A good reason..." Ivy murmured, tapping her chin. "She may have been driven mad, someone could have said something to her, perhaps something to do with her origin?"

"Or her fate..." he added, eyes downcast. "Nevertheless, no information was leaked. And there's one less problem here now."

Ivy glanced up at Nyght. "And how do you think Dae will take the news? He seemed to fancy her a bit."

"I'm sure he'll understand. Dae's not one to get hot-headed." Nyght reassured her.

"Well that's good then." Ivy said. She looked down at Decibel and then back up at Nyght with a smile. "Say, I won't be healed for another hour or so... Nyght, will you spend some time with Dec till I'm better?"

Decibel grinned up at Nyght, eager for his response.

Nyght looked down at the eager little dragon. "Of course." he said grinning, rubbing Decibel's head again.

"Thanks Nyght!" he said with a smile.

"You guys have fun, ah. But no more sneaking into the kitchen, Dec isn't quite trained for that one yet." Ivy laughed.

Nyght winked at her before laughing. He turned back to Decibel. "What do you wanna do?"

"I dunno..." Decibel said, puzzled. "Master never did get to show me how to have fun. I'll do whatever you're up for!"

"How about I teach you a secret power that only Dae and I know?" he enticed.

Decibels eyes got big. "Sure!" he said.

"Lets head to the training room then." He smiled before looking back up at Ivy. "You'll be okay?"

This is good, can't wait for more.

Ivy smiled. "Absolutely!"

"Awesome!" Decibel yelled, dashing out the door. "See ya Ivy!"

"I love you." he said before turning to follow the little red dragon.

Ivy's face lit up. Were her scales not so dark, she would have been just as red as Decibel. "I-I love you too..."

"Let's go go go!" Decibel laughed, halfway down the hall.

Nyght smiled back at her before heading out the door. "I'm coming, I'm coming."

Decibel bounced through the halls, avoiding any debris left over from the explosions.

Nyght weaved through the chaos, trying to keep up with the little ball of energy.

"We're almost there, hurry up!" Decibel called over his shoulder with a grin.

Nyght followed Decibel into the unscathed training room. He shut and bolted the heavy doors before turning to the excited child. "Are you ready? This requires a lot of energy and concentration."

"Of course I'm ready! I'm full of energy!" Decibel said. He decided not to bring up the fact that he wasn't the best at concentration.

"This technique is a secret. Nobody knows except Dae and I. I trust you can keep a secret?"

Decibel looked to his left, then slowly to his right. Then he turned to face Nyght again, nodding slowly, afraid that if he spoke his promise that someone could hear. A bright grin was on his face.

Nyght grinned back, a little excited himself. "Very well. This technique is called 'Hyperdrake'." He crossed to the middle of the room.
