i really need to come back on here often! i had to read, i think, around 5 chapters just now to get caught up!

xD I wasn't writing fast either.

Chapter 18

"You should not be here. You must know that." Illumina whispered. Cynder hung her head, knowing what she said was true.
"I didn't. We just came here to rest," Spyro answered.
"But I know one of you knows. I shall not reveal who, but they must keep their knowledge to themselves. Do not say a word." Illumina glared sightlessly at each of them in turn, dragon and wolf. Star sat silently, as did Cynder. Spyro fidgeted, feeling pressured.
"We'll leave then." Star barked.
"No. You have sealed your fate. Go to the east branches." Illumina flicked her tail, annoyed.
They obeyed wordlessly. Death padded down the wooden corridors next to Cynder. Star seemed uneasy and kept glancing at the 'empty' space where Death walked. He also seemed weird, as if his existance had been discovered, which, he would find out, had.
They saw the corridor ahead open up to the East branches so they stopped at the exit.
"FLY. NOW!" Illumina's voice bounded down the corridor as she did. Spyro saw flames licking away the inside of the tree, destroying it. Thousands of birds took off from the branches, tree creatures such as squirrels bounded down the flaming trunk in a bid for escape. Illumina sped past the trio and leapt into the air.
"COME ON." She shouted. Cynder flapped after her, and managed to hold Star between her paws in which looked like an uncomfortable position. Star fidgeted, but said nothing. Spyro bounced into the air just in time. They flew out of the range of the branches and turned to look.
The flames had now enveloped the entire tree, and it creaked mightily. It's magnificent truck seemed lopsided. Then...
BAM! The entire tree toppled over and lay sadly on its side in the nearby canyon. With it fell an amazing eco-system and many animals.
Cynder glimpsed a black shape flying away to the North, where they were heading. She shook her head and knew he had struck again. This time not on one living thing, but on many.
