You should still credit an artist's work. That action is comparable to stealing. Even if you admit that the artwork isn't yours, you should still be able to redirect people to the proper artist so they get the support they deserve.

O h my bad, I always thought credit and reposting without permission were the same thing (since I thought people talk to the artist about whether or not they can repost, and by finding the artist, they can get proper credit). But the argument still stands. If you repost an art without permission, it is still kind of stealing. And not respecting their wishes. Even if it gave you your five minutes of fame, it is best to just take down the post

i know i would be in the minority of this but i actually completely disagree with having a "lock" on people reposting your art ESPECIALLY\MOSTLY if it s fan art of any kind because that fan art is NOT is by law is the property of whoever the copyright holeder of the fan art you re drawing from is technically (that s actually the law last i checked unless something changed) if they claim it s there own creation that s different story now that is stealing but otehrwise it can legitimately do nothing but benefit you as an artist the more people share your art i also speak from experience because if there s one thing i know about on the internet it is art and if there is one thing i can make money with on the internet it is my art i have openly always allowed people to repost/share/use however they like basically everything i ppost and it has had proven benefit to me because it widens my audience and non monetarily i don t know why ysomeone would have the issue with it because you want people to see your art is the point i would think

While that may be true. The fact still kind of remains that a artist can salt your wife and **** your crops, but it's still their art. It's a visual picture that's still their art, you can't replicate a style 100%. You can't legally take their characters etc without money or support. Like visual art is not really that "theftable" as people may think. Like if this was like "I don't want give this ho money but I wanna listen to the music", I would zero issues with that as I... Admittedly I am a dick about that, but I do generally buy albums from not ****ty people.

How do I word? The artist can be a super ****ty person but when the work is good it's unfortunate props. "Death of the Author" is what I go by for a fair chunk of artists, unless they are forcing their **** takes into their art.

the reason i brought up art theft is because i saw someone reposting art from four different artists and saying "this is the best fan art" without credit.

if you like it... maybe consider giving the original artist the attention? reblog/retweet/favorite, perhaps?


i was also thinking about how artists get the shortest end of the stick, because someone can make something original. a pose of their oc, perhaps, and another person can trace it and change it to be their oc. but since it wasn't 100% traced and therefore looks different enough, people will be like "oh it's fine! :) this art still took time to make :)" it doesn't take effort to steal art, shut the **** up.

this isn't saying that referencing images isn't bad. referencing and tracing are DIFFERENT. tracing is what butch fartman does. referencing is what professional artists do sometimes. sometimes you need help with a pose, so you'll look up images as a reference and have it open on the side and use it as a guide to help you. that's a reference. tracing is putting it on the bottom layer and tracing over it. that's annoying.


i've had my art stolen before, it isn't fun. but the worst part is, you can't do ****. unless you put an obnoxious watermark all over the image and make it impossible for people to edit out your signature, people can steal your art and either claim it as their own or repost it without credit.

Oh I know what ya meant. The people that repost and claim it as theirs are assholes. Been there done that some with and without the watermark/signature. When it was without though I did point to upload dates when filing things and calling things out. But yeah tracing is ****ty of people I will punch them.

I share that opinion with you. Anything above 18 degrees Celsius (64,4 Fahrenheit) is too hot. Autumn is the best season, especially the latter half o the autumn.

Now that I'm watching Monkie Kid, I finally need to start Rise of the TMNT after so long.


I just need to find a legal place to watch it...
