Chapter 16 - Memories

Bane had been walking for a couple of minutes now looking for any small animals he could eat. As he walked he could feel the sun getting weaker and he could see the moon rising in the sky. Despite this he continued to search the area for food, he knew Grom must be starving and he himself was a bit hungry, Starfury may need something to eat as well. Bane began to hear the faint sound of running water in the distance. He followed the noise and soon found himself standing in front of a small river flowing through the center of the forest. There were many small animals there but they all fled at the sight of Bane.

Bane bent down to take a drink but when he looked closely at the water he saw a terrible looking monster. Its eyes were red and its scales were dripping with blood, the limp body of a dragon hanging out of its mouth. It was Bane.

" No..thats not me! It cant be!" He cried out before slashing at the water with his claws.

The image dissapeared and Bane saw his real reflection. Bane shook his head in confusion before deciding to head back to Grom and Starfury.


" What happened next?" Grom asked Starfury who was dragging her claw along the ground as if drawing something.

" I told him that I had been watching him for a very long time hoping someday he would notice me. Then I told him that I loved him. When he looked at me, to tell me he loved me too, his eyes looked so full, like he was feeling love for the first time." Starfury replied struggling to think of the best words to describe Bane.

" But you still betrayed him?" Grom mummbled slowly trying to understand what Starfury meant.

" Yes I did... He loved me and I smashed his heart into pieces soon after when Rex and the other arrived. Sparrow told us he would be on watch duty in the tallest tower overlooking the entire village and beyond. He said he would make sure nothing would happen to us if Bane fought back....he lied. Sparrow watched his only son be murdered and did nothing" Starfury said sadly at first but ended with a bitter growl.

" Dont lie.. I know you enjoyed lying to me, loved you but you betrayed me! " A demanted mind screamed in his thoughts.

Suddenly Bane came walking out of the bushes slowly, his eyes fixed on Starfury.

" Oh hey Bane! Starfury and I were just talking about..uhh.. the time. Maybe we should rest here for the night it is getting late you know!" Grom fummbled to say, he never was a good liar. Starfury nodded in agreement.

" Yeah..sure.." Bane said as he pretended to of not heard the two talking earlier.

" I see you did not find any food." Starfury said dissapointedly as she tried to find a comfortable position in which to sleep.

" We will get some tommorrow" Bane said lowly as he rolled over on his back in the opposite side of Starfury.

Soon it was nightime and the forest was alive with the sound of small insects. Starfury could not sleep, she was not used to the cold floor as a bed and she could not forget the faces of her dead parents and Bane. She rolled over on her side and saw Grom lying still on the ground, fast asleep. She also saw Bane lying on the ground. Starfury rested her head and started to close her eyes when she saw Bane start to move. She pretended to be asleep but kept one eye open just enough to see what Bane was doing.

He had been up all night, but he couldn't sleep. Whenever he would close his eyes he saw his father's shallow grave, the rain pouring down hard onto it. He got up slowly to his feet and looked at Grom and Starfury, both seemed fast asleep. Bane decided he would go visit the river he had found earlier, maybe he could find something to eat and maybe he could find out more about the river. Within minutes he found himself standing in front of the river, he could see the moon reflecting in the water. There was absolute silence where he was, only the sound of running water was in his ears.

Bane bent down and pulled out the picture of him and his father from his hip-bag. It was small and soft, the wooden frame undamaged from all the walking and fighting he had done that day. He gently placed it on the ground and looked into the water. Bane did not believe what he saw, looking at the water he saw what looked liked memories taken straight from his mind.

He saw his father holding him as a child, the first time he breathed fire, the day he met Grom, so many memories were being played before him as he looked into the water. In a matter of seconds Bane saw his entire life flash before him. The images suddenly stopped on two moments in his life. Bane saw on one side his father lying in his arms.

" The night he died" Bane mummbled slowly as he gazed into the water.

On the other side Bane saw himself sitting next to Starfury, the both of them looking into eachother's eyes. He was speachless, but he slowly reached out his hand and touched the shallow water.

Chapter 17 - Made in the stars.


A faint ripple went throughout the water as he touched it, the images seemed to vanish. Bane was utterly baffled, " The night I fell in love." He whispered softly to himself.

Not a second passed before a quick rush of movement behind him disturbed his deep thought. Bane turned quickly to see a blue blur leaping onto him. Within seconds he felt himself being pushed into the small river. Bane was dazed and confused, he could feel the water flowing into his ears and the feeling horrified him, he used all his strength to push back against his attacker who was trying to drown him, and found himself ontop of a smaller dragon just outside of the water. Though his vision was blurred by water he could clearly see who it was who attacked him, Starfury.

She was staring at Bane, she looked both angry and scared. Bane held her tightly to the ground as he began to speak.

" What are you doing!?" Bane growled at her.

" I came to kill you! You are a murderer!" Starfury growled back.

" You caused me to do that! I loved you and you betrayed me!" Bane said intensley, staring right at Starfury without blinking.

" You killed Rex and Jasper, you are a monster!" Starfury said as she struggled to try and get Bane off of her to no avail.

" Do you think I enjoyed that!? I have to live with that guilt for the rest of my life now, because of you!" Bane yelled so fiercely birds resting in the nearby forests flew away.

The sound of Bane's voice made Starfury feel like a ant. She was terrified of Bane now, she felt any second he might kill her. However Bane did nothing but continue to speak, this time he spoke more slowly and with more grief then anger.

" I finally felt love, for the first time in my life and you destroyed it... If it was not for you I could have saved my father.. He might still be alive right now." Bane said still trying to sound angry despite the fact he could feel tears straining to be realeased from his eyes.

Starfury said nothing...Everything Bane said was true, and she knew it. Deep down she wish she had never hurt him but it was too late now. To her suprise Bane let go of her and went to a small wooden object on the ground.

" Just go, leave and never return." Bane said coldy as he picked up the picture of him and his father.

Starfury was shocked by Bane. She thought he was going to kill her, instead he just let her go. Starfury stood still for a minute trying to think of what to do, what to say. Bane was still sitting on the ground, looking at the picture. Starfury slowly turned and started to walk away. She walked for several minutes not knowing where she was going or when she would get there. The thoughts of had happened, what she had done, clouded her mind. With every step she took she felt ashamed of herself. She could hear the sound of small animals all around her, she even saw a small rabit come running into the open. She pounced and was prepared to kill it, then eat it. The little rabit looked up at her, a terrified look on its face, it was just a baby.

Starfury raised her claw in the air but as she looked at the small rabit she lost her nerve and let the little one go free. She sat silently in the night for several minutes, thinking about Bane.

" I..I cant do this." she whispered to herself before turning around and running back to Bane.

When she arrived she saw Bane still near the river, in the same position she left him. Slowly Starfury approached Bane, she looked over his shoulder and saw the small picture of Bane and his father, it looked a little wet.

" I miss him, I miss him so much." Bane spoke out suddenly, his voice was filled with inner pain.

" I am sorry Bane..for what I did." Starfury apoligized to him, her voice was as soft as the day Bane had met her.

" He died in my arms you know.. Every second was torture as I held him. I never told him I loved him either, not once. He tried so hard to be a good father but I never appreciated him, and now hes dead." Bane contiued on, still looking at the picture in his hands, his voice cracking.

" My parents are dead too, I know how you feel." Starfury said trying to comfort Bane as she put her paw on his shoulder.

Bane did not push her away, instead he turned to face her. She had a ashamed look on her face and a single tear was sliding down her face. As Bane looked at her he did not feel absolute hate for her like he did earlier, he felt something else.

" I..I am sorry Starfury, I am a monster." Bane mumbled. He could not understand himself, after all she had done how could he feel this way for her again?

" No, your not. I played with your emotions like they were toys, I am a monster." Starfury said slowly as she looked gently at Bane.

In that moment Starfury realized all those things she had said to Bane earlier, about she had been watching him and hoping he would notice her, that she felt comfortable around him, were all true. She actally felt like she might love him.

" Starfury..I..I forgive you." Bane managed to say without crying. She smiled gently at him, a twinkle in her soft eyes.

The two dragons gazed at eachother, each had been through so much in such a small time, but in that moment they both knew they were not alone. Bane now had two things left fighting for, Grom and Starfury. Starfury lifted up her arms and wrapped them around Bane holding her head to his chest. As Bane looked down at her he felt a torrent of emotions flow through his body, guilt, anger,hate..but in the end one emotion prevailed, love.

Bane slowly lifted up Starfury's head to face his.

" I love you." Bane whispered softly before kissing her gently on the lips.

Chapter 18 - Unity

The few seconds his mouth was pressed against her's seemed like a eternity in paradise. For just a few seconds he forgot all about his troubles, his past, Grom, his father.

Slowly he backed his head away from Starfury and looked at her. She was smiling lovingly at him, her eyes filled with joy.

" I love you too." She whispered back at him before resting her head on his shoulder.

Bane held her closely to him, he felt like he would never let her go again. The two dragons remained together for several minutes before one finally spoke.

" Bane..I..I dont understand, I barely know you yet I love you." Starfury said softly.

" Maybe we were just meant to be?" Bane replied with a kind smile.

" Sounds about right." Starfury said smoothly before snuggling up to Bane.

Bane and Starfury remained cuddled up together all through the night, neither remembering when they fell asleep. Bane was the first to awake to a beautifull morning. He could hear birds chirping and see the suns rays piercing through the thick forest. Bane looked down to see Starfury still cuddled up next to him. Bane smiled as he slowly got up, trying not to awake her.

Bane looked to his right and saw the small picture his father had given him. He picked it up and put it in his hip-bag without even looking at it. Bane oozed joy out of every part of his body as he remembered how wonderfull the night was before. Bane returned his vision to Starfury who was sound asleep.

" I bet she is hungry." Bane thought before looking around the forest for any source of food.

Bane saw many small animals but he doubted being able to catch them, however he did see some fruit hanging from some of the trees. He rose into the air and cut off several of the strange orange fruits. He cut one open with his claw to see what was inside, it looked very juicy with orange liquid flowing out.

"Perfect" Bane thought as he placed the small fruits on the ground and did he best job to cut them into little slices, easy for eating.

Soon he could hear Starfury awakening behind him. He turned to see her strechting and her eyes fluttering open. Bane sighed as he watched every movement, this was the girl he had fallen in love with.

" Good morning! I made you some breakfest." Bane greeted Starfury as she stood up.

" Thats sweet of you." Starfury said with a grin as she dragged herself towards the orange fruit pieces.

Bane and Starfury sat on the opposite side of eachother as they feasted on the orange fruits, both exchanging smiles and faint laughter. When they were done eating Starfury was the first to speak.

" What do we do now?" She asked, her voice sounded a tad bit nervous.

" I still have a destiny to complete and our parents to avenge." Bane replied, he could feel his happiness drain out of him as he spoke the words.

" What about Grom?" Starfury reminded Bane

"Grom! I forgot all about him!" Bane screamed in his mind.

" Lets go get him." Bane said quickly before heading off into the forest, Starfury right behind him.

Within minutes they found Grom still lying on the ground, they could hear his stomach growling even in his sleep.

" We should get him some of that fruit you brought me earlier." Starfury suggested. Bane nodded in agreement and looked all around for the evasive orange fruit.

" Over here!" A female voice called out. Bane turned to see Starfury barely holding three of the large fruits in her arms.

" Lets get them back to Grom." Bane told Starfury.

Grom awoke to a strange but sweet smell. He slowly opened one eye and saw the small orange slices of fruit. Without a word he lazily reached out and grabbed a handfull and shoved them in his mouth. Starfury and Bane were standing behind him giggling quietly as they watched him. Grom must have heard them because he rolled on his back and saw the two standing there.

"Ahh!" Grom screamed as he jumped to his feet in shock. Bane and Starfury burst into laughter.

" You scared the daylights out of me!" Grom panted while he held his throat to make sure he had not chocked on any fruit.

" Do you feel well enough to continue towards the mountain?" Bane asked Grom kindly, the first time he said anything nicely to him in days.

" Sure, just let me finish eating..whatever this orange stuff is." Grom said with a loud burp.

Within seconds Grom had devoured all the fruit and the group of three dragons walked together in unison for the first time.

Chapte 19 - The Black Dragon

Grom was walking a little bit behind Bane and Starfury, he had noticed how friendly they both seemed. Bane still walked with his sinse of duty but he had lost the feeling of dread that surrounded him, instead he looked happy. Starfury was right beside him, step for step. Her head was now pointed straight ahead and she nolonger looked afraid of Bane. Grom was confused but just shrugged and continue to follow without a word.

The three dragons walked for a little under an hour, Bane and Starfury exchanged quick glances, both trying to not get caught doing it. Soon they found themselves at the gap between the large mountians and the forest. Bane looked up in awe of the might cliffs, he could see snow on very top of the west peak, where he needed to go.

" Here we are, lets go." Bane turned and said to Grom and Starfury.

All three dragons lifted their wings and ascended as far as they could up the mountain. Though their wings were to weak to make it all the way. They landed on a small area on the side of the mountain to rest for a little bit. It was almost snowing where they were, the sun seemed so far away, but its light shown brightly. Grom clumped to the ground with a loud poof, Bane chuckled lightly at the sight. Sarfury however did not stop to rest, instead she went towards the edge of the area they were at and looked into the distance.

Bane watched her, sighed happily as he thought about her. "She is so beautiful" He thought as he watched her every move.

Minutes passed as Bane felt like he was in a trance, before Starfury turned around and saw Bane looking at her. Bane blushed when he knew he was discovered. He tried to make it seem like he was looking at something else but he knew he had failed. Starfury walked right up next to him and licked him on the cheek. A giant smile erupted on Banes face as he held the side of his face with his left paw. Without a word Starfury sat down next him and closed her eyes for a quick rest.

Bane did the same and a couple of minutes later he was pushing Grom's heavy body around trying to wake him up. He finally awoke and Bane turned his attention to Starfury who turned out to be standing right behind him. Bane jumped in shock but quickly recovered, both Grom and Starfury laughed at him.

" Very funny, hahaha. Now come on.." Bane said before suddenly stopping.

As he spoke Bane began to hear footsteps, they were heavy and seemed numerous. Bane dropped to the ground and focused on hearing the noises, Grom and Starfury dropped to the ground as well.

" What is going on?" Grom whispered to Bane.

" Hide behind something!" Bane whispered loudly as he jumped behind a nearby boulder just big enough to hide his entire body.

Starfury hid behind a large boulder as well but Grom could not find anything big enough for him. He panicked and picked up a large rock about the size of his body and dropped it on himself to try and hide. Within seconds large, lumbering figures came walking across the mountian ledge. Behind them was a large male black dragon, who looked horribly disfigured who yelled harshly at the creatures.

" Walk faster minions! Faster!" He roared.

Bane, Grom, and Starfury remained silent as they heard the footsteps go past them. A sudden silence broke out amidst the marching, only the feet of a dragon sounded like they were moving.

" Hold..." The black dragon suddenly spoke out.

He reached his head high into the air and sniffed at it. Bane peaked out from around his boulder and saw him. He was surrounded by numerous creatures apparently called minions, the same who attacked his village. The black dragons head snapped to the right towards Bane. Bane pulled back his head behind the boulder and hoped he had not been seen. He could hear heavy footsteps walking towards him. However the footsteps stopped and it seemed to be walking away.

" Lets move!" The black dragon roared at the minions.

The small column of creatures moved forward, up a small path up the side of the mountain. A minute passed before Bane come out of hiding.

" I think they are gone." He said with a sigh of relief.

As he said those words Starfury came out of hiding, Grom right behind her.

" I cant believe they didn't find us!" Grom said as he was shook slightly, he was scared.

" Who was that dragon..?" Bane thought to himself.

Soon he would get his answer.

Hmm, who is this black dragon?

Chapter 20 - Confrontation

" We need to follow them." Bane said quickly as he examined the path the group had walked on.

The dragon left large foot prints in the dirt ground, the large minions left smaller footprints. Though Bane did notice something odd, the dragons footprints seemed like they..burning.

" Those things were hideous..." Starfury mummbled softly under her breath.

" Lets go, they are going the same way we are, towards the peak." Bane said as he realized the urgency of the situation.

Within seconds he was in the air once more trying to flap his wings up higher and higher to get to the mountain peak, Starfury and Grom were right behind him. Bane began to fill a extreme cold as he felt the snow began to land on his wings, the sheer weight began to push him down. He quickly used all his energy and grabbed onto a sharp rock on the mountain. From there he started to climb with his claws. He turned to see Starfury a feet steps behind him, but there was no sign of Grom.

"Grom!" Bane yelled out in terror.

The snow was heavy and Bane himself barely made it to the rocks to climb up, but Grom must have fallen. Bane heard a sudden scream of fear, he knew it was Grom. Bane lept off from the mountian side pushing himself downward. As the snow became thin in the air he could see Grom lying in a fat clump, in the same place he had rested earlier. Bane glided downward slowly to Grom. He fell beside Grom as he pushed him over to see if he was okay. He did not believe what he saw, on Grom's face were several cuts caused by claws..dragon claws. A sudden, dark voice echoed through the mountain, Bane whirled around to see the black dragon from earlier standing a few feet away in the shadows.

" I caught your fat friend trying to follow you up the mountian." He said with a sick smile.

" Who are you!?" Bane growled fiercly as he stood in front of Grom, he did not know if he was dead or alive but he would protect his best friend nomatter what.

" The question is, who are you Bane?" the dragon said as he stood perfectly still gazing at Bane. His entire chest looked smashed in yet he walked perfectly fine and had large muscles covering his body.

" Give me one reason not to kill you right now." Bane snarled, he was in no mood for games.

" Big talk for such a little one." The dragon said as he wore a smirk on his face.

He slowly began to come closer and closer to Bane, each step leaving a burning mark on the ground. Bane quickly glanced back at Grom who was still lying motionlessly on the ground. Bane let down his gaurd for a second and he payed for it. The large dragon was right on top of him in seconds and slashing his claws at Bane. Bane tried to deflect his attacks but was being overpowered. A quick flash of blue light burst into Bane's vision as he saw Starfury falling down at a quick speed, her wings aimed down to increase speed. She landed hard on the back of the black dragon and began to rip into him. He kicked his head back at the sudden pain and let go of Bane.

Bane now had his chance, he breathed searing fire right on his the dragons face and sent him in a frenzy of pain. He kicked his head back and forth as his cruel voice roared " You will pay for that!"

Starfury lost her grip on the dragons back and fell to the ground but she got right back up and both she and Bane incircled the black dragon. His head darted back and forth between targets. Then a sudden smile came to his face as a thought entered his mind. A strange crystal began to glow on his chest, Bane had not seen before. I looked like a tiny shard broken from something larger. A sudden torrent of black liquid shot out of the dragons mouth onto Bane, Starfury and Grom. Starfury could feel the liquid sliding down her throat and in her ears. She tried to shake it off her but to little effect. Bane did not even notice he was soaked in some sticky liquid. He jumped at the Black Dragon ready to strike, his claws ready to tear into the neck. The dragon quickly swiped his tail at Bane and knocked him to the ground.

Bane was in shock from the massive impact of the tail but he could hear a faint whispering. " Come to me my son, you have done enough."

The Black dragon started to back slowly away from Bane, Starfury and Grom. His head was lowered as if he was ready to attack, a cold and bitter silence erupted. Though the black dragons eerie voice began to speak.

" That black liquid was a poision, now that it is in your body you will all be dead soon and become my minions. Though there is a cure, only one way to save yourselves." The dragon said with a sick smile.

" Shut your mouth! Before I shut it for you!" Bane snarled at him, he could feel his blood pumping.

" Your a fighter thats for sure, you will be usefull to me." The dragon said before he lifted up his right claw and cut two entire fingers off with his left claw, he showed no sign of pain. Bane and Starfury watched in disgust as blood began to flow out of the dragons stubs and he picked up his two fingers, showing them to Bane and Starfury.

" In my body flows the cure, if not for it I would be another mindless minion. If you eat one entire finger you will be cured, thus saved. But you will only get two...but there are three of you." The dragon said before dropping the fingers on the floor and quickly vanishing into air. Bane tried to see where he went but he had no clue where to look. He turned his vision to the two fingers on the ground,

"Only two.."

Sorry, this one is a little short.

Chapter 21 - Sacrifice

"What are you doing? We have to go after him!" Starfury urged Bane.

" We cant catch him, besides, I have no idea where he went...and this poison.." Bane mumbled, he hated the idea of letting the black dragon escaped but he knew he had no chance of catching up to him.


" You dont believe him do you!? If we were poisoned why would he give us the cure?!" Starfury yelled at Bane.

" Yeah,,your right, it does not make any sinse." Bane tried to believe but sudden movement from Grom confirmed his worse fears.

Grom suddenly awoke screaming in pain, his voice boomed throughout the mountian. Bane and Starfury rushed to him to try and help him but there was nothing they could do. Soon Starfury fell to her knees, she was using all her willpower to not scream but Bane could see pain surging through her body. Bane breathed heavily, it was poison, and he was next. Bane ran to two bleeding fingers lying on the ground. He picked them up with his claw and ran to Grom and Starfury. As he looked at his two best friends, his only friends, about to die. He had to make a choice on who to save.

He could save Grom, his best friend from childhood. The guy who had stuck by his side for his entire life. He was there for Bane when he had nothing left in the world, but his lust for revange. Or, Bane could save Starfury, the love of his life. She had hurt Bane more then anyone else in his life besides himself but despite it all he loved her, and she loved him. Finally, he could save himself and leave one of his friends to die.

" Bane..." Starfury whispered faintly " Save..yourself, forget about me.." Bane could see tears dripping down her soft face. Grom was still screaming in pain, unable to speak.

Bane could hear a faint voice echo in his mind " Do it, let her die...save yourself!"..Bane lifted one of the fingers to his lips and stared at it. It was grotesque, blood was dripping out and large bumps covered it. Yet, it was his only hope...this or die...he took one final look at Grom and Starfury. " Save yourself!" Starfury cried out one last time before falling to the ground and she crawling up into a ball holding her body as she shook violently.

" Save yourself...let her die" The voice whispered in Bane's mind.

"NO!!" Bane cried out before he took the finger away from his mouth and put it in Starfury's. He could see her swallow it slowly, and she stopped shaking, instead she layed on the ground without a single motion.

Without a word Bane rushed to Grom. He put the remaining finger in his mouth and he could see him suck it straight down. Soon, he too was lying on the ground, motionless. Bane swallowed hard as he braced himself for the poison to take effect. If he was going to die, those he loved would live. He could feel a new tingle of pain flow through him. He fell to his knees as the pain got stronger and stronger. He felt as if his body was being torn apart but he refused to scream.

"I will not give in!" Bane roared out before he fell to the ground and his vision faded into darkness.


It was pitch black, only a faint blue light shown through. A sudden large crack wrang out throughout the area, the tombs. A large black dragon walked in to the room, he was missing two fingers. The blue light moved suddenly to face the dragon a sudden voice spoke out,

" Have you done what I asked my son?" The voice spoke calmly, her blue eyes were like diamonds.
