Redheart broke away from her gaze on Leopardshadow and stared up at the volcano. So-So Redheart killed my mother? This was something she needed to ask Bloodfang about. She raced into his den. "Bloodfang?", she asked. The elderly gray dragon turned to her. "Yes?", he replied. Leopardshadow sighed. "I-I think R-Redheart did kill my mother." she stammered. "What?", Bloodfang roared, showing lines of shining teeth. "If you believe that then you are a fool, Leopardshadow", he snarled. Leopardshadow felt fury rise up inside her. "I am not!", she spat. "You told me yourself that Kais and Leopard dragons are sworn enemies and Redheart just happened to take my egg and she's not my mother!" Leopardshadow panted. "Calm down, Leopardshadow!", Bloodfang ordered. Leopardshadow let her breathing slow and her muscules to relax. "I'e known Redheart for many years and she hasn't killed anyone." Blodofang rasped. "But she did have a secret." "What?", Leopardshadow blurted out. Bloodfang leaned in closer. "She loved someone in the clan of leopard dragons."

Bloodfang must be getting old ..., Leopardshadow thought as she looked at his ornery gray scales and dull black stripes, but his blazing red eyes were still sharp with intensity. "Yes. A dragon named Cloudspots." Bloodfang explained. "He was a white leopard dragon with black-blue spots." "But you see, Cloudspots, had another mate, Goldenshine." "When Redheart realized this, anger swelled up inside her." Leopardshadow stared in awe, her gray eyes were now hard with thought. "...And we haven't heard from Goldenshine since" Bloodfang finished. Because Redheart killed her. She killed my mother!

"Leopardshadow are you okay?", Bloodfang asked. "You look dazed." Leopardshadow shook her head to clear out the confusion, her mind was spinning. "She-She killed my mother..." Leopardshadow gasped. "Leopardshadow, you don't know th-" "I DO know that!", Leopardshadow spat back. "I've had dreams and visions about it and all you've told me about the leopard dragons and kai dragons make sense!". Bloodfang narrowed his blood-red gaze. "Fine then, believe your foolish dreams.." he hissed. Leopardshadow nodded. "I will ...and they're NOT foolish." she exclaimed. "They're true." She pelted out of the den. I always wanted to meet my mother and now ... now she's gone ...taken away by Redheart! She spun into the forest. I have to clear my mind! What of Bloodfang is right! ... She felt a large bump and spiraled back. Dazed, she looked up and was face to face with the dragon who had taken away her mother. Redheart.

Redheart glared down at Leopardshadow. "What are you doing?", she hissed. Leopardshadow returned Redheart's burning gaze. "What are you doing here? Out in the middle of the kai forest?", Leopardshadow hissed. Redheart grumbled. "Just, on my way to visit someplace." she mumbled. She narrowed her eyes at Leopardshadow. "And you can't come." Redheart hissed. She spread open her red wings and took off. Leopardshadow stared in fury. Where is she going? Does it involve me? Leopardshadow knew she needed to find out, for her mother's sake. She leapt after Redheart, her jet-black wings soaring higher into the late afternoon sky. Redheart was going further and further south, until they were way outside of Kai territory. Leopardshadow kept her distance from Redheart, for if she was to see her, Leopardshadow would be crow-food. The ground below them seemed to sloipe sharply downwards as Leopardshadow realized that their was a huge waterfall. She saw Redheart tuck her wings in and pull downwards into a steep spiral. Leopardshadow froze for a second. That waterfall is pretty high .. Leopardshadow knew she needed to follow Redheart, or she would lose her. She tucked in her black wings to her sides and dove down. Wind whipped through her face. Then, Redheart flew into the waterfall. What? Where did she go? Is there a cave on the other side of the waterfall?

Kobolt gaped his jaws, drinking in the cool air. No fresh scent of Leopardshadow ... He padded torwards her scent, sniffing all the way. The scents of Redheart mingled with Leopardshadow's. And another scent. Fear! Not thinking, Kobolt leapt into the air and began flapping his wings. He followed Leopardshadow's scent. What could she be doing? Kobolt suddenly heard a faint roaring sound. Waterfall? The roar was growing louder. A river flowed beneath Kobolt, it's clear blue water reflected in Kobolt's dark eyes. his shadow shone within it. The water then dropped into a steep waterfall. Kobolt knew if he fell from this, he could seriously injury himself, or die. He kept his wings strong and straight and tried to block out the pounding roar of the waterfall. Kobolt looked down and saw a familiar spotted shape. Leopardshadow!

YAYZ! HE FOUND HER AGAIN!

Leopardshadow looked at the icy water plummeting down. Redheart had gone through it. There must be a cave at the other end ... Leopardshadow closed her eyes and tucked in her wings. She knew she had to go through the water at full speed or else she would be dropped with the water's force. She shut her eyes tightly and began a sharp dive. Please have me make it! Leopardshadow felt an icy shock on her back followed by a hard surface. She opened her eyes, realizing she had made it to the other side. She looked up. There was no sign of Redheart. A silvery fog hung over the cave and it still stretched on. "Redheart?" she called. There was no reply, only a sharp snarl. Taking a deep breath, Leopardshadow made her way into the foggy shadows of the dark cave.

Leopardshadow gaped her jaws upward, drinking in the freezing air. I can scent Redheart .... She traveled further into the cave, wondering if it will ever stop. "Look at this place." Leopardshadow whispered. "The kais must have sheltered here." "Redheart!" she yowled. Leopardshadow thought she could see the slightest shadow of Redheart, but it was gone before she could be sure. Suddenly, she heard a mournful howl. Redheart! She pelted in the direction of the howl, only to find Redheart laying at a grave. Her head whipped around. Greif clouded in her eyes. "Leopardshadow!" she snarled. Leopardshadow flinched back at the tone of Redheart's voice. "Y-Yes." Leopardshadow hissed, trying to sound brave. Redheart got up. "I told you not to follow me." Redheart growled. "Y-Yes, b-but." Leopardshadow stammered. Redheart listened, her red eyes glimmering in the foggy cave. Out with it! "You killed my mother!" Leopardshadow blurted out. Redheart's gaze was now piercing Leopardshadow like a blackthorn. "Do you think so?" Redheart sneered. Leopardshadow nodded. She sighed. "I killed her for a good reason." Redheart whispered. Leoaprdshadow stiffined. "There is never a good reason to kill a dragon!" she spat. Leoaprdshadow tilted her head torwards the grave. "And who is that?" she hissed. Redheart let out a earspliting scream. "...Your father!", she spat.

Leopardshadow was frozen to the spot. "My father?" she hissed. Redheart nodded. "He could have been my mate!", Redheart sighed. Leopardshadow felt anger swell up inside of her. "He would never be your mate." she spat with hot anger. "My mother was always better than you!" Redheart's claws unshealthed and she leapt for Leopardshadow. Leopardshadow shut her eyes tightly, expected to be ripped apart. Her muzzle stung and she could hear ripping. Suddenly, the long cave inside with waterfall shook. Redheart stopped attacking. They both looked up, realizing that the top of the cave was lined with sharp icicles. They were shaking violently. Leopardshadow gulped. Finally, a few icicles fell. Redheart yowled and pushed Leopardshadow away from the spikes falling down. Leopardshadow's face hit the cold ground. She heard a scream. Redheart! More icicles began to fall. Leopardshadow looked up and saw many icicles heading torwards her. She darted around, frantically trying not to get hit. She felt an icicle stab her tail. Leopardshadow yowled. Thinking fast, she dove under a rock and put her paws over her face. Please , let it end! Leopardshadow dug her face into her paws as she heard the final icicles collapse to the ground. Warily, she crept out, a trail of blood dripping from her tail. She whipped her head around. Redheart was laying lifelessly on the ground, a dark red tide engulfing around her. She saved me ... Icicles were stabbed into her chest, bright blue against red. "HEY!" a voice roared. Leopardshadow spun around to find Kobolt staring at her with disbelief.

Kobolt bared his teeth in a snarl. "Leopardshadow!" "Did you kill my mother?" he asked. "N-No!" Leopardshadow stammered. Its not what you think! But Kobolt didn't seem to notice as he picked his way to Redheart with a grimace, his paws splashing in the bloody tide. He sniffed. "She has your blood on her." He sniffed Leopardshadow. "And you have her blood on you!", he roared. "NO!", Leopardshadow warned. Without warning, Kobolt leaped. He's fighting me ... fine ... I shall fight back! Leopardshadow rolled with the impact and landed on top of Kobolt, planting a paw on his neck. But before Leopardshadow could do anything, Kobolt wriggled away with the speed of a snake. His eyes glowed yellow. The tips of his long talons flashed as he raked them across Leopardshadow's shoulder. Excruciating pain landed through Leopardshadow's body. She forced herself not to flinch but leaped forward again, sending Kobolt flying back against the cave's wall. Briefly, Kobolt was stunned and Leopardshadow managed to bite down on his foreleg. Pain like fire seared through Leopardshadow again with another blow from Kobolt's sabor-claws and in the shock of it, Leopardshadow lost her grip on Kobolt. Kobolt then reared back, his paw raised for the death blow. Leopardshadow scrabbled to get away, but she was not fast enough. Agony exploded in her head as the long talons of Kobolt struck down. Flames washed over her eyes, fading to leave nothing but darkness. A soft, black tide was rising to engulf her; she made one final effort to get up, but her paws would not support her, and she fell back into nothingness....

Leopardshadow awoke on a black field. She yawned and blinked sleep from her eyes. Where am I? She got up and shook her spotted head. "Greetings Leopardshadow." an unknown voice called. Leopardshadow whipped her head, only to see the dark figure of Redheart approaching her. Leopardshadow drew back, her teeth bared in a snarl. But...but she saved me... Her muscules relaxed. She looked up at Redheart who looked at her compassionatly. Her bloody body was now restored and stars glimmered in her scales. "I'm sorry for what I have done." Redheart sighed. "You-You saved me." Leopardshadow gasped. Redheart nodded, her head dipped down. "Theres someone I want you to meet." she said. A figure approached from the shadows. Leopardshadow narrowed her gray eyes. The figure continued walking and Leopardshadow thought she could see golden spotted scales and black wings like hers. She was frozen to the spot as she realized the golden spotted shape of her mother. She came forth and nuzzled Leopardshadow. Redheart dipped her head and left the two alone. "This is your-your daughter, Goldenshine." Redheart sighed. Goldenshine nodded. Leopardshadow looked up. "Is it really you?", she asked. Goldenshine nodded. Leopardshadow looked down, only to find the world stretched out on their paws. I'm dead... "Send me back!." she wailed. "Patience, my daughter." Goldenshine purred. "Didn't you know? Leopard dragons have many lives." Leopardshadow's eyes opened wide. Goldenshine dipped her head. "I'll always be with you, Leopardshadow. I'll be in your heart." Leopardshadow felt a tear roll down her cheek. Her vision rolled into blackness as she went back into the world.

Leopardshadow's eyes opened. Kobolt stood over Redheart, muttering something Leopardshadow couldn't hear. "K-Kobolt." Leopardshadow gasped. The red-striped dragon whipped his head around. "How ... I killed you." "You did," Leopardshadow spat. "But leopard dragons have many lives." But how many?... Leopardshadow launched herself at Kobolt. She was aware of Redheart, Sunscales, Goldenshine, and Cloudspots besides here. Leopardshadow seemed to cover the ground on winged paws. Her claws raked along Kobolt's side and she dodged a blow to the head like the one that had claimed Leopardshadow's first life. But Kobolt was fast. He flung himself between Leopardshadow's outstretched paws and aimed for her belly, trying to rip her apart with the same flick Malefor did that had destroyed Sunscales. Leopardshadow barely drew back in time. Now she was on the defensive, trying to avoid the gashing claws and still get close enough to Kobolt to land a blow of her own. She managed to grip Kobolt's tail and the two dragons rolled over on the cave's ground. When they broke apart Leopardshadow saw her own blood spattering the ground and she knew she had to finish this fight quickly before she weakened again. She dug her front paws into the bloodstained ground and crouched in front of Kobolt as if she were tensing every muscule in readiness. Kobolt let out a roar of triumph and leaped at her. In the same moment, Leopardshadow hurled herself upward, crashing into Kobolt's belly and thrusting him backward onto the ground. Her claws slashed through Kobolt's scales and her teeth met in his throat until she tasted the gush of warm blood. She was dimly aware of Kobolt's claws flailing viciously at her shoulders, but he held on, raking Leopardshadow's belly with his hind paws until his blows grew feeble and weaker. Leopardshadow shook her head, sending thick drops of blood from her eyes. She realeased Kobolt's throat and drew back. Kobolt's eyes were fixed on Leopardshadow, dark pits of hatred. He tried to snarl difiance, but the only sound was the blood bubbling from his torn throat. "You took her from me...." he panted. "...She loved me." "I didn't kill her!" Leopardshadow protested. Kobolt shook his head. "You did." he persisted. He gazed up at Leopardshadow. "I will be your enemy forever..." he growled. Leopardshadow nodded. "Fine." she growled and flew off.

Kobolt laid on the ground, blood flowing freely from his wounds. That b****! And to think I actually liked her! He picked himself up and shook his body, sending thick drops of blood flying across the cave. "I'll have to get herbs." Kobolt muttered. "Cobwebs, mabye, they should stop the bleeding." He sniffed around until he found some cobwebs. He lightly clamped his teeth around the web and applied it to his throat. The blood flow slowly lightened until there was no more of it. Nothing can kill me! Kobolt yawned and sprang out of the cave. I will be Leopardshadow's emeny forever...

kolbolt: hey, i was angry!

Kobolt landed in the camp. Dragons casted warily glances around the clearing, as if something was about to attack them any moment. Mabye I should talk to Bloodfang... He padded into the den. "Bloodfang?" he asked. The wiry gray dragon turned to face Kobolt. "Yes?" he asked. "W-Why is everyone look so wary?" Kobolt asked. Bloodfang sighed. "I didn't want to scare the younguns." "There-There is a huge battle between the kais and badlands pack tonight." Kobolt's eyes widened. "We need to prepare, they'll attack any time now." Bloodfang continued. His red eyes slid over to Kobolt's torn throat. "How did you get that?" he asked. Should I tell him? Kobolt decided not to. "I-I fell." Kobolt lied. Bloodfang narrowed his eyes. "Can you still fight?". Can I still fight?! Of course I can! "Yes, Bloodfang." Kobolt replied. Bloodfang nodded. "Very well. The fire weapons are in the underground cave." "My dragons will be heading there at moonhigh." Kobolt nodded and padded out.

Kobolt saw all the kais heading torwards the underground cave. Kobolt had seen it before. There are long tunnels within it. He looked into the black sky. A thick rain was coming down and hard winds were blowing ferociously. Kobolt, desperate to get out of the rain, sprinted torwards the tunnels. Inside, dragons were resting and preparing for the battle. Bloodfang tipped his head in. "Everyone rest." he ordered. "There will be dragons patroling outside and will alert you when it is time." Kobolt nodded. His paws itched for battle. He suddenly felt the slightest hint of worry for Leopardshadow. Where is she? He sullenly made his way to a warm corner. Wind was still whipping in from the small tunnel entrance. At least were sheltered from the rain... Kobolt laid down and dozed off.

Leopardshadow streaked through the pouring rain. She arrived at camp. Adderfang pounced on her. "Hey! W-What are you doing?" she hissed. Fire blazed in Adderfang's yellow eyes, but they died. "Oh, terribly sorry, Leopardshadow, I thought you were a badlands dragon." "What? Why?" Leopardshadow asked. "There is going to be a huge attack tonight." Adderfnag whispered. "They need me!" Leopardshadow urgently said. She streaked off to Bloodfang's den. "Bloodfang?" she asked. "Leopardshadow!" he greeted. "Whats going on? Where are the other dragons." "Peace, dear one." Bloodfang hissed. "They are resting in the underground tunnel, sheltered from the wind and rain." "The fire weapons are there as well." Fire weapons! Leopardshadow had dreamed of wielding the terrible flaming braches, scorching other dragons. But she also knew that the Badlands Pack were masters of ice weaponry. She dipped her head in respect. "Thank you. I will go join the other dragons." Leopardshadow purred. As she streaked through the rain and peered into the den, her eye caught a familiar shape in the dark. Kobolt.

Leopardshadow hissed in disgust and went to the other end of the tunnels. Other dragons were murmering excitedly to each other. Leopardshadow looked at the braches. I don't know how to ligh- Wait! Of course I do, I breath fire! Her claws tingled at the thought of battle. She couldn't help glancing over at Kobolt again. His red-brown eyes were closed and he snarled in his sleep. Fangclaw came up to Leopardshadow, his green eyes shining with delight that Kobolt wasn't with her. "Hi!" he purred. "Hi," Leopardshadow greeted. He sat down beside her. "Cant wait to use those branches." Fangclaw beamed. He hesitated and added, "You'll be great with them on." Leopardshadow's gray eyes widened. Did this dragon just give her a compliment.[/i] Suddenly, icy wind streamed into the tunnel. Many dragons shivered at the breeze. Fangclaw spread his wing to cover Leopardshadow.

Kobolt was jolted awake by yowls of the other dragons. "Get ready." Adderfang told Kobolt. Kobolt nodded. His paws itched. This was his first major battle ever. He scanned the tunnel and let out a annoyed hiss when he saw Leopardshadow and Fangclaw. Can't....Think....about her right now... Kobolt went over to the pile of branches that were being ignited. Leopardshadow breathed her unusual yellow fire onto it, lighting the branch with ease. Kobolt felt a small pang of jeolously. He wished he could breath fire, along with his other powers. He snapped a branch and rubbed it against a rock until it caught on fire. Flames lickered at the top. All the dragons craned their heads to the entrance. "Attack!" Bloodfang ordered. Dragons let out roars that filled the tunnel and began streaming outside. Kobolt followed. He could not see Leopardshadow at this point, but that didn't matter, for she didn't matter.

Kobolt saw all the kais leaping into the air, flaming branches glowing bright. He did the same and took off with a huge leap. He saw many dark dragons rushing torwards them and Kobolt held his flaming branch under his wing, sheilding the bright fire from the pouring rain. At the front of the kais was Bloodfang. Bloodkill, leader of the Badlands Pack. Suddenly, the dragons collided with each other and the rainy, black sky became a shrieking whirl of teeth and claws. Kobolt dodged as many dragons flew past him, carrying their ice daggers and swords. Kobolt jabbed them with his branch. A large gray dragon bumped into him. Kobolt nearly staggered in flight. The gray dragon snarled at him and the two began to circle each other warily. The ferocious grey dragon was armed with an ice dagger in his right talon, and a ice sabor in another. Ice scimitars bristled at his snout. Kobolt snarled and jabbed the dragon with his fire branch, burning his arm. The dragon responded and slashed at him with his sabor. Blood flew out from Kobolt's leg. Then, the dragon dove at him, dagger outstretched. Kobolt coudln't dodge. Thinking quick, he jabbed the tip of the stick forward, stabbing into the dragon's heart. Blood gushed out. The dragon roare, but the roar soon became a wheezing cough as he slowly plummeted to the ground. Kobolt let out a yowl of triumph and dove through the battling dragons, jabbing and slashing.

Leopardshadow felt alive. She slashed with her burning branch. Fangclaw was trying to keep up with her, fighting along right beside her. Bloodkill was battling with Bloodfang, blood spraying the night sky. Kobolt was nowhere to be seen. Leopardshadow shook her head. I...I can't think of Kobolt... She was caught off guard when a burly brown dragon rammed into her, bringing her down. He's going to try and crush me.. Fangclaw let out a furious screech and dove down after her. The brown dragon had his teeth locked into Leopardshadow's neck. She batted his face with her claws, but that sent blood flying in her face. Who's blood? Mine or his? Leopardshadow was fully prepared to die when suddenly, Fangclaw bit down hard on the dragon's tail. Leopardshadow saw his green eyes turn bright yellow and his claws grow longer. He's experiencing what Kobolt has .... The brown dragon yowled in pain as Fangclaw thrust him off and waved a fire branch in front of his face. The ice scimitar he was carrying was melting from the flame. The dragon yowled and fled. Leopardshadow felt her heart pumping and her blood felt electric.

Leopardshadow felt Fangclaw nudging her from behind. "Come on!" he purred, his green eyes full of compassion. Leopardshadow nodded and they flew onward. Fangclaw reared and slashed at dragons while Leoaprdshadow swiftly made her way through them. She caught a glimpse of Adderfang locked in battle with a black-and-white dragon. Kobolt, still, was no where to be seen. She turned her head and saw Bloodfang being crushed by a dark blue dragon. Roaring, she flew to help him. With great speed, she sank her jaws into the dragon's neck. The blue dragon howled in rage, releasing Bloodfang. Leopardshadow bit down harder, but was stopped when the dragon's big paw slammed down on her face. Dazed, she floated in the sky for a heartbeat, giving the dragon enough time to slash his ice scimitar at her leg. Blood sprayed out. Snarling with hot rage, she spat a tongue of yellow fire at the dragon. The fire seemed to light up the night sky like a shining star. All the dragons in battle looked in awe. Am I the only one who breaths fire in this attack? Her thoughts were interrupted by an angry snarl from Bloodkill. "Bite her in the throat! Lock off the fire supply!"

Leopardshadow gulped at the though of the tearing of her throat, where her life-blood bubbled. The dragons raged back into battle. The blue dragon Leopardshadow was battling gave her an intense yellow glare. He lunged forth. Leopardshadow responeded and dodged, landing a blow on his leg. Her wings were beginning to ache and her fire branch was dimming from the cold rain. Suddenly, the dragon lunged forward and grabbed her black wing. Agony exploded in Leopardshadow's side as the blue dragon tore a piece of wing membrane off. Snarling with hot anger, she tried to aim her branch at his throat, but his blows were defensive. What now? How much more of this? She could see other dragons in the battle giving her a hungry glare, as if they had just spotted a juicy piece of prey. When the blue dragon was distracted, she snapped her jaws around his shoulder and bit down hard. Leopardshadow's shoulder stung. She realized the dragon was slashing at her with his claws. His ice sabor was held in his left talon as he jabbed it into Leopardshadow's side. How much more can I take?

Kobolt thrusted and jabbed with his branch at a big black dragon, as his eyes glowed bright yellow. Kobolt's brain suddenly felt empty as the bright red eyes of the black dragon burned into his. He's trying to hypnotize me... Kobolt shook his head and snapped at the dragon's throat. He felt the taste of warm blood in his mouth, dripping down his throat. Kobolt looked down and realized his belly was dripping with crimson blood. The black dragon was clawing at his scales. Furious, he spiraled above the dragon and reared his paws down on it's head, slamming them down on the dragon's head. Kobolt thought he heard the crack of bone as the dragon plummeted down to the ground. Kobolt gave a yowl of triumph. Suddenly, he heard a familiar yowl and a terrible ripping sound. L-Leopardshadow? Kobolt's eyes changed back into it's regular color and sparkling darkness flashed before his eyes. His past showed. Him and Leopardshadow hunting together, learning to fly, and supporting one another. The last flashback was him standing in front of Leopardshadow's egg as it hatched. Suddenly, the darkness disappeared as the sound of battle and the scent of blood came to Kobolt. He knew what he must do. He had to save Leopardshadow. Frantic, he spiraled through the fighting dragons. he saw a burly blue dragon slashing at Leopardshadow, who was now literally covered in blood. A red mist of rage fogged in Kobolt's thoughts as he charged forward with a earspliting screech. The blue dragon turned his head and Kobolt knew this was his chance. Using the pointed razor-sharp tips of his claws, he cut through the dragon's neck, lopping it's head off. The blue head spiraled into the night sky. Leopardshadow warily stared at Kobolt, her body dripping with blood, but was too tired to say anything. Kobolt's gaze was soft. "Come with me." he called. He grabbed Leopardshadow and they both glided down to the ground.
