Alright, here comes a rant about something I find really annoying.
I play like monster hunting games and a lot of people on Ragnarok Odyssey Ace compare it to Phantasy Star...
I have to ask...Why?! I find PSO not anywhere near a monster hunting games besides that you fight fricking big ass monsters that are much more overized then you!
Dark Souls does this too though, anyone say that a monster hunting game?! No! Even though it's more of a monster hunting game than PSO because you have to collect certain materials from monsters to upgrade weapons.
And here we go, reasons why PSO is more of a action RPG than a monster hunting game...
-First of all, there are almost no materials in this game, no noteworthy ones for creating or upgrading equipment, you only get weapons, armor, and usable items from monsters...Need to get the best gear or upgrade your gear? Just need the in-game currency! No materials needed, you don't need materials and currency, just currency.
-Second, yes, there are elemental atributes on weapons and such that will depend on the damage you do to the foe, but no kind of crushing damage or slash damage I don't think, only depends on your stats and the stats of your weapons, elemental can help, but I haven't found much of a problem with elemental attributes except for this one enemy that can change their element (Phantasy Star Portable)
-The game is action-like somewhat like a monster hunter, you do usually hunt monsters bigger than you...But like I said, Dark Souls does that too, Dark Souls has stamina for dodge rolling and blocking just like PSO except that stamina, Photon Points in this case, can be used for skills, yet people categorize PSO as more of a monster hunting game then Dark Souls...Uh, what?
-Stats, unlike most monter hunting games, aren't totally dependent on equipment, you can also level up and gain experience on here and stuff like uh...I don't know, a normal RPG? An RPG with action? Hell naw, there can't be action RPGS except...Action RPGS, but put PSO in the Moster Hunting category, sure.
There are only a few similarities between Ragnarok Odyssey Ace, and PSO, but those few similarities aren't enough to call PSO a monster huning game. It does not have huge similarities to Ragnarok Odyssey, Toukiden, Gods Eater and the biggest monster hunting game, in fact it's in it's title...Monster Hunter.
If Monster Hunting games are supposed to be categorized as hunting big monsters in ARPG style (Action Role-Playing Games), then why are the games categorized as Monster Huting games ones where you don't have a leveling system, you hunt monsters for materials, and the only way to get stronger is to get said materials and upgrade and create better weapons and armor? If that is case...Then why aren't more games categorized as Monster Hunting games?! If people decide to put Monster Hunting games in such areas, then PSO is far from monster hunting and more an ARPG.
Yes, I actually lost my cool, but I'm so annoyed at what these people categorize as monster hunting game, and what they categorize as ARPGs if they categorize Monster Hunting games that specialize in those areas, then why is PSO considered a Monter Hunting game when it doesn't have areas in it's game mechanics like the games that are categorized Monster Hunting?
Please people, make sense or be sensible, and choose what the cateory fo Monster Hunting acually means, either say Monster Hunting is what it is called, or say that Monster Hunting games are only games that have these certain mechanics, don't just say a game is Monster Hunting when there are other Action Role-Playing Games where you hunt big monsters and they aren't even sent to that category...

Like fallen snow, I lay on the ground and wait for my turn to fade away, no matter how unique I seem. It's my gift to you... A true sacrifice...
