There will be some houses setup and new users can use them as temp or perm houses, and you'd be allowed to build your own house and/or upgrade the temp house, but it can't interfere with other user's homes. Second, the use of your home by others is up to each individuals decision, so if they are happy with you using it you can, otherwise not.

This video is a good example of what I'm thinking of. Nah, not really, it's just very pretty. But it's still an example of a good server with lots of bases.

This, this, and also kinda a computer that can actually run that... Summerfields is a wonderful texture pack anyway, though. Plus, this helps actually running everything a ton. I don't really like Modifiers apart from quickly checking a few out, but these are all excellent options if you can use them. Optifine was literally nessicary to get Minecraft running at all with my last computer.

Considering Mojang are talking about a pre-release of 1.5 tomorrow, we will start work on the server tomorrow. WorldGaurd and WorldEdit are currently enabled, but WorldEdit will be disabled upon making the server public.

Just a heads up, I've made a custom texturepack which the server will probably download for you. This pack has minor changes from the original texture pack, such as the redstone being solid lines and glass being clear, plus beds are a different colour (guess which). Only other things are a custom boot screen and different background for the main menu (only temporary). The texture pack can be found here. You don't have to download it and this is more of a test anyway, but if you'd like to try, feel free.

Well what happens is it says the request is being made, but then I sit there for 5 minutes while its at 0% I'm not sure if its minecraft or the TP.

I disabled the texture pack download from minecraft since it won't accept the address I give it. It's not a required thing anyway.
