Ooh! Sounds unique! I've had an idea for a world for a story. Let me try it...

At first, the planet Nescia appears to be aptly named; the one large continent that can be found is an almost completely deserted wasteland, save for a few species of desert flora such as brush and cacti, and fauna such as insects and arachnids. This continent is a desert studded and surrounded by mountainous regions and canyons; the edges of the continent that aren't mountainous are beach shores. The curious thing about the continent is that, while there are no civilizations on it, there are signs of several once existing. There are cities and towns, buildings and roads, now all falling to decay. The air over this continent is deadly poison, which is most likely why it is deserted.

However, that is not to say that this planet is without life. One must look underground and to the sky to find active civilization. There are islands in the sky, held there by stones with powerful magnetism. Where the continent below is nearly barren of plant life, these islands are all brimming with lush, colorful flora. Each island has a different feel--some are tropical, others resemble jungles. Each island has its own town or city that corresponds to each habitat, but inhabitants all have one thing in common: they all have wings. Those who cannot fly glide. Most people on these islands do not stay on one for very long; it is safe to say that they are a nomadic race, knowledgeable in survival tactics and independence.

Meanwhile, underground, there are a series of caverns and mines, and tunnels that connect them all. While those who live in the air are experts in traveling lightly and leaving little behind, those without wings have learned to stay in one place, and have developed technology and craftsmanship, creating contraptions that hover, and buildings that are carved right into the cavern walls. The same magnetic stones at the heart of each island are found deep underground, as well. It is very possible that the floating islands were once embedded in the ground. Here, though, they are used as light sources, as they glow in all sorts of colors.

As of now, all that connects these two worlds are powerful resources, and all that separates them are several dead, poisonous cities. Ironically, it is in one of these dusty city skeletons that these two worlds will finally learn of each others' existence...
