Chapter Six: SHOWDOWN

The Wastelands...

Cynder felt like she was suffocating as she struggled to move through the thick water-substance. I'm not gonna make it! Her voice screamed inside her head to get air... it was getting painful, the way her lungs were burning... she had to make it to the other side...

Her limp body just sat there, suspended in the water.

Spyro crept closer and closer to his target. He was close now----very close. If he could jump onto this human's back, and bite the neck, breaking the spine...

Jak's ears picked up Spyro's soft footfalls. "Dax, try to be quieter." He said in a whisper. But there was no response.

Spyro crouched down, getting ready to spring. Attack the back of the neck... break the spine... if it turns around, attack the throat... rip it open.

"Dax?" Jak asked, not hearing his friend's response. He started to turn around, and at that moment, Spyro's black body leapt swiftly and silently through the air. Jak didn't have time to throw his hands up to deflect what he saw, a black mass with bright white eyes, hurtling toward his neck... feeling the warm mouth of this creature close over his throat, and cold, sharp teeth.

Time seemed to slow----Jak's first response was slight panic, no way out. He had a fraction of a second to act before his throat would be torn open, spouting blood, and he'd drown in his own blood once it filled his lungs. Not happening! He felt Spyro clamp down, fangs bit into his flesh...

I'm dead! His mind screamed.

And so Spyro knew at that moment that he'd won, tasting blood in his mouth, Jak had crashed to the earth from Spyro's weight knocking into him...

But Spyro was wrong. It suddenly felt as if he was biting steel. His pupilless white eyes looked down at his victim. His ears were filled with an enraged cry as Jak's flesh turned a pale death-grey. Then he felt claws striking his right side. A sharp stab of pain shot through his body at the impact, causing him to loosen his grip on Jak's neck. Jak stabbed Spyro's side again, a hissing, growling cry erupting from Spyro's lips as he yelped and rolled off.

Jak quickly got to his feet, taking a defensive stance, claws held outward, ready to strike. His lips writhed back in a snarl, revealing a set of nasty fangs. Two black horns stood atop his grey-white hair. His pupilless black eyes drilled Spyro, watching as he got to his feet. Blood trickled from the slight tear in his grey neck, his heart was pounding, he was breathing fast. He sidestepped, circling Spyro, as soon as the black creature faced him, and started to circle. Blood dripped from Spyro's teeth, the sweet taste of the red liquid on his tongue. Blood seeped from the stabs and scratches on Spyro's side.

They each circled, waiting for a chance, and opening to attack...

Somehow, Cynder woke up out of the portal. She immeadiately exhaled a load of the heavy water, and sat there, panting and heaving for breath. She felt wet and cold. Sand clung to her wet body in the cave. She clumsily stood up and timidly walked forward...

She saw a vehicle. What's that doing here? She cautiously walked up, and inspected it. Nothing all that much interesting. She smelled human, and a rodent's scent.

Still weak from lack of air, she slowly made her way to the cave's exit...

And stood, beholding a glorious sunrise on eerily silent freshly formed sand dunes, watched by few, equally silent towering cacti, a dead, wind blown Wasteland.

So did you think Jak was dead at first?

Yes! I knew he wasn't going to die becuase he one of the main characters in the story(Im guessing that).

Good, I'm glad I was tactful enough to convince my readers he might be dead.

Chapter 7


Small dustdevils lazily twirled their ways along the dunes, disappearing and reappearing where ever they pleased. Cynder strode forward from the cave, glancing to the left and right, wondering what creatures lived in this world. The soft sand wormed it's way up throught her toes. Why did I have to come through the portal? She asked herself. This place looked forbidding.

Hours later, she was till dragging her weary paws along in the sand.

Then she spotted the same cave she'd come out of earlier. "I'm going in circles..." She sat down heavily.


The she raised her head----a noise was coming from the cave. She smelled Human. Curious, she stood up and softly padded across the sand over to the cave and entered...

...A young elf-like woman with teal hair was examining the car.

Cynder ducked behind a rock.

"WHO ARE YOU?" Spyro bellowed, voice twisted by the convexity element, still circling his target.

"The real question is... who or what are you." Jak retorted with an equal amout of menace in his voice.

"This is My homeland. I ask the questions." He snapped.

"It will be difficult to ask them if you are not alive, no?" Jak swung his claws, jumping forward and whirling around. Spyro was caught off-guard and whacked backwards three times, hitting a tree with a heavy thud. Spyro grunted. "Is that all you've got?" He spat, landing clumsily on his feet. Ouch.

"No." Jak said simply.

Spyro resumed the circling...

"...The vehicle doesn't look damaged or assaulted... so why did the radio suddenly crackle..." The woman muttered to herself standing up. The only thing she noticed was excess sand in the bottom, indicating there was a sandstorm.

Her head snapped up. Did I just hear something? A metal head? She stood up and and walked toward the boulder Cynder was hiding behind... past it.

Cynder narrowed her eyes. The creature looked around, but not behind her. If she turns around, I'm caught. She crept up behind her, crouched down, and readied her tail...

Good chap.

Chapter 8: Unfortunate Turn of Events

Spyro snarled at the human creature. "Now... let's try this again..." Jak smirked. Spyro continued. "Who are you?"

"If it is a name you are looking for, then I am called Jak, or Mar." He responded tactfully. He knew this four legged animal wanted to know all about him, and he didn't want to tell him.

"You know what I want to know!" Spyro lunged angrily. Jak leapt aside.

"I do not have any time to tell you my life story. It is long." Jak taunted. "Care to tell me about yourself?"

"I could give you the same excuses, trespasser." Spyro crouched down, ready to spring aside in case the human were to attack suddenly.

The attack came not as fast as he anticipated. The human leapt straight into the air, fist raised, then crashed to the earth, slamming it on the ground. A Dark energy flowed in purple waves out from his fist as Spyro dodged, nearly getting hit. "Too slow." He said, flying into the air.

"What's that?" Sparx asked Hunter as an explosion of purple was seen far off into the valley fom the village.

Hunter looked at Sparx. "Go scout ahead."

Sparx shrugged in an irritated fashion, then flew off.

Jak took his fist from the ground. A angry snarl twisted his lips. His black eyes focused on Spyro, intent on the creature's death for assaulting him.

Those thoughts soon vanished from his mind as a soft whizz sounded through the air, a dull impact, and a sharp pain shot through his chest, causing him to jerk and stumble backwards.

Startled, Jak looked down.

A red feathered arrow was emmbedded in his chest, blood seeping at the base. He clutched his chest, breath becoming ragged...

Hunter leapt down from a hilltop not far from Jak and Spyro.
