“He can breathe ice, too?” Blaze, the fire Guardian gasped once Asura told them the news. “But that’s impossible,” Sokka snarled. “he doesn’t have ice dragon blood.” Asura sighed. “But he can, I saw him breathe ice with my own eyes,” Asura insisted. Malefor narrowed his eyes. “It’s true! I can!” he yelled. “This is a breakthrough for the dragon race,” Thunder murmured. “A dragon that can both breathe fire and ice…” “But that’s impossible!” Sokka growled. “Well, you better believe it!” Blaze snapped. “So are you telling me you don’t believe Asura? And your own grandson?” Blaze hissed. Sokka should believe us! He’s my grandfather! Malefor’s blood suddenly ran cold. What if Salmu’s told him? Maybe that’s why Sokka is being so grumpy around me. But he’s like that anyway, he thought. Malefor’s tail twitched. Asura frowned. “Sokka, I am truly disgusted. How could you not believe a Guardian when you are one yourself?” Asura hissed. Sokka opened his mouth to speak, but then thought better not to. “I’ll prove it,” Malefor snapped. Before any of them could argue, Malefor took a deep breathe, and blew with all his might. A chilling, blue and white stream of ice and snow blew out of his mouth. Luckily, he didn’t freeze anything. Sokka was dumbstruck. “I guess you were right…” Malefor’s grandfather muttered. Malefor beamed with pride. “I told you!” he yelped. Asura bent down to talk to Malefor. “Why don’t you go find your parents? I’m sure they would love to know.” Asura whispered into Malefor’s ear. His heart stopped. I can’t face Salmu again! Who knows what he’ll do to me? But he didn’t have a choice, Malefor couldn’t tell Asura, she and the other Guardians would know that he set the Temple on fire. Malefor slowly padded away to find his parents. He gulped. What am I going to say to my father? he shivered at the thought.
