Kobolt shook with a confusing emotion. They had stopped fighting and were now sitting together, eating. Kobolt was chewing the bones of a rabbit while Leopardshadow plucked at a large blackbird. Kobolt leaned in to whisper something in her ear. "Why do you think that dream made me feel better?", he asked. She shrugged. "Probably was the herbs, or a gift from the ancestors", Leopardshadow guessed. He nodded. "How did you enter my dream?", he asked. "Just slowed my breathing to yours, it's not that hard", Leopardshadow retorted. Kobolt took another bite of his rabbit, chewing ponderously. He looked over to the other side of the clearing. "Bloodfang seems to be watching us", he commented. Leopardshadow turned her head as well. Bloodfang's red gaze was set on both of them, mainly Leopardshadow. What does he have against her?, Kobolt thought. He notice Leopardshadow tense up and her fear scent began growing. "Whats wrong?", he asked. She shook her head, dazed. "N-Nothing!", she snapped. Yeah .... right!

"Anyone up for hunting?", Adderfang called. Kobolt could clearly see that Adderfang liked watching the apprentices hunt. "Sure!", Kobolt exclaimed. "I'll come", Leopardshadow shrugged. "So will I", an unknown voice called. Kobolt turned his head to see a dark gray striped dragon trotting towards them. Fangclaw! "Hi, Leopardshadow", he greeted. "Hi, Fangclaw", she replied. "Hello", Kobolt hissed. Fangclaw ignored him. "Come on, you three", Adderfang called. They all sprinted torwards Adderfang. "Leopardshadow, you take the route near the river and by the fallen tree", Adderfang ordered. She nodded and whisked off. "Kobolt, you go near the sky oak and the border of the Golden army". "That should be enough for your pitiful skills!", Fangclaw spat, his green eyes full of hate. Kobolt snarled at him, his dark eyes narrowed. "Fangclaw you go near the gorge", Adderfang hissed. Fangclaw sent Kobolt a smirk and pelted off, bumping Kobolt. Kobolt spat. "Well, go on!", Adderfang demanded. Kobolt hissed with annoyance and walked off.

Kobolt raced into the undergrowth, his hatred making his body run faster. I'm going to catch more prey than Fangclaw! He darted for a sharp turn, only realizing that their was a steep drop downwards. I can do this! He jumped down, his crimson wings spread wide as he spiraled down. Easy! He touched the ground and yowled in triumph. Suddenly, he heard snarls in the forest. "D@mmit!", Kobolt whispered. Are there Golden Dragons watching me? Kobolt thought he could see two dark golden shapes slinking through the undergrowth. Kobolt suddenly felt scared. He snarled loduly to tell them that this was 'his' territory. A twig crackled. Kobolt spun around, his lip curled. Another snarl came from the bushes. Am I being Ambushed? A dark gray shape flew out of the bushes with a growl and clenched its jaws around Kobolt's waist. Kobolt gave a startled yelp. I have to fight! I have to! Kobolt wriggled free from the wolf's grasp and crocuhed snarling. He knew he was smarter than it. The wolf jumped and aimed its claws for Kobolt's throat. Kobolt suddenly felt a tingle in his eyes, as they changed from a dark red-brown to a bright yellow. His fangs and claws suddenly grew wider. Whats happening to me?! It was too late to decide. Kobolt whipped to one side, avoiding the wolf as he landed. When the massive dark gray wolf turned to face him, Kobolt lashed out with his front paws. The pale sun glinted unnatuarlly on the tips of each talon. One blow to the wolf's shoulder unbalanced it. It fell on its side, exposing its belly and Kobolt's vicious claws sank into the wolf's throat. Blood welled out as Kobolt ripped him down to the tail with a single slash. A desperate scream of fury erupted from the wolf. Kobolt caught a glimpse of its black eyes, glazed with fear and hatred. Then its body gave one last jerk and it was still. Kobolt was still panting, his now yellow eyes were beginning to fade. What was that?

Kobolt panted, his eyes turning from bright yellow, to the dark red-brown color. I-I just killed that wolf! Alone! He sniffed it. Blood still spread out from it's belly. Slash marks ran through his body. Can you eat wolves? I could bring it back for me and Leopardshadow to share He picked it up, realizing that it weighed a lot more than he realized. "D@mmit, this b@astard weighs a ton!", Kobolt snarled. His eyes widened. Did he really need to cuss like that? With all his strength, he dragged the wolf back to camp. Wait 'till Fangclaw see's this!

Leopardshadow trotted back to camp, proucly carrying a large rabbit that was the size of herself. Wonder what Kobolt caught? Probably something great, he is a great hunter. She returned to Adderfang. He looked at her with widened eyes. "Wow", he hissed. "Great job!". Fangclaw returned, carrying an eagle. "Nice!", Leopardshadow exclaimed. Fangclaw purred proudly. "I caught it for you, Leopardshadow." Leopardshadow smiled. "T-Thanks." she hissed. They all sat and waited for Kobolt. "Kobolt's late", Adderfang rasped. "Mabye the Golden Army captured him!", Fangclaw taunted. Leopardshadow spat at Fangclaw through narrowed gray eyes. Fangclaw returned her glare, green eyes burning into gray. Suddenly, Leopardshadow heard panting. Kobolt! She ran in the direction that she heard the strange noise and found Kobolt carrying a large, dark gray wolf. Leopardshadow was speechless. "D-Did y-you catch t-that?", she stammered. "Yep!", Kobolt exclaimed proudly. "I was too quick for it!". "What going on?", Adderfang asked. His eyes widened. "Kobolt? Did you kill that wolf?", he asked through narrowed eyes. Fangclaw stalked beside him. "Nah! He probably found it dying and some Golden Army dragon had to hold it down for Kobolt to finish it off!", Fangclaw sneered. "Wait!", Adderfang ordered. He started over to it and sniffed the long claw marks that ran down it's body. "These claw scents are fresh", he whispered. "K-Kobolt did kill this wolf!", Adderfang exclaimed.

HA! fangclaw just got OWNED!

Leopardshadow watched Kobolt stand proudly over his wolf. Fangclaw gave him a furious green glare, but Kobolt ignored him. 'You've all worked hard, especially Kobolt", Adderfang rasped. "Here, let me help you carry that back to camp". Kobolt nodded and picked the wolf up by the tail while adderfang clenched his jaws around the forelegs. They all walked back, Fangclaw still glaring at Kobolt. Whats with him and Kobolt?, Leopardshadow thought. She opened her mouth to ask, but said nothing. Many dragons noticed Kobolt and Adderfang carrying the wolf and stared with wide eyes. Bloodfang ran over to the four dragons. "Adderfang, you caught a wolf!", Bloodfang exclaimed. Adderfang smiled. "Actually, Kobolt did". Bloodfang looked, speechless. "...Wow", he whispered as he sniffed the wolf. Leopardshadow cast a glance over at Fangclaw. He's waiting for his father to praise him. "Nice rabbit, leopardshadow", Bloodfang said. Fangclaw stiffened with anger. Bloodfang looked around and sent a yowl to all the other kais. "Kobolt shall have the first pick of prey tonight". Leopardshadow brushed her snout against Kobolt's. Kobolt's eyes widend and he began shaking. Here he goes again! Leopardshadow thought, rolling her eyes. Fangclaw sent Leopardshadow an icy glare, then stalked off.

Redheart prowled near them. "Nice job, my son!", she purred. "May I eat as well?". "Of course, mother", Kobolt replied. Wow, Redheart is askig my permission to eat! He sat down near Leopardshadow, who was already plucking at a piece of tender meat.

Leopardshadow took large bites of her side of the wolf. I haven't eaten in days! She was glad to have a meal when her and Kobolt could eat their fill. She noticed Kobolt watching her with interesting dark burgandary eyes. She gave a crooked smile. He smiled back and began eating again, tearing at the wolf's hind leg. Redheart was chewing on the neck. "I like the legs", Kobolt said between chewing. "They're the most tender part". Leopardshadow laughed. She had never really paid attention to what part she was eating, for she became lost in Kobolt's dark gaze.

When Leopardshadow was fininshed she got up and stretched her long limbs. Fangclaw was staring in awe a ways away, but stopped to glare at Kobolt when he got up too. Dusk was approaching, and most of the dragons were asleep. "You two coming to bed?", Redheart asked Kobolt and Leopardshadow. Kobolt yawned. "Sure," Leopardshadow shrugged. Fangclaw sure seems to hate Kobolt ... Kobolt padded into the den, waiting for Leopardshadow with a playful glance. Whats he doing? When she padded up to him, he whipped his tail out, gently hitting Leopardshadow's legs. She fell on her side, exposing her belly. "Hey!", she spat. Kobolt did nothing only to leap on top of her with a playful snarl. "Hey you two!", Redheart hissed. "You're acting like hatchlings!". Kobolt got up, his ears flattened with embarresment. Why would he be embarresed around me? After all, were just friends ...

Leopardshadow curled up next to Kobolt, who pressed unusually close to her. He's probably just cold ... She slept into a deep sleep. She blinked away, on a bloodstained clearing. "Dreaming?", she guessed. Several dragons raced past her and Leopardshadow recognized the black-and-golden striped body of Xay. A dragon bowled her over, clawing her on her nose. Blood blinded her for a moment and she tried to spit yellow fire, but the dragon had his big paw placed over her throat, blocking off the fire airway. Suddenly she heard a familiar yowl in pain. Kobolt!

Leopardshadow bolted awake next to Kobolt, breathing heavily. She looked at Kobolt and let out a deep sigh of relief. He's okay ... She looked at the sky. Dawn was nearly apon them. The early morning sun was creeping up over the trees. Leopardshadow looked the other way, staring at a big volcano that was apon the Badlands. Heard it's due to erupt soon ... We all need to be ready .. Leopardshadow thought she could see a burst of molten magma shoot out of it, but it was gone before she could be sure. She got up and stretched her legs. Kobolt was still deeply sleeping. I shouldn't wake him, after all, he did catch that wolf. She prowled out of the den and into the clearing. Early newleaf was upon them and the land was still cold. Her lungs filled with freezing air until she became lightheaded. Fangclaw seemed to have saw Leopardshadow wake up, and was heading torwards her. "Morning!', he greeted. Leopardshadow blinked. Fangclaw is ususally not this cheerful "Hi!", she purred. Fangclaw's lean gray body gave a slight shudder. "Cold, huh?", he asked shyly. Leopardshadow nodded. Tiny snowflakes were now falling from the sky. One landed on Fangclaw's snout and he stared at it crosseyed. Leopardshadow burst out laughing. Fangclaw snickered along with her. Leopardshadow looked around. She couldn't see Redheart. Where is she?

Kobolt was dreaming of Leopardshadow and her soft gray eyes. He slowly woke, blinking in the sunlight that streamed into the den. Did I sleep 'till sunhigh? Kobolt gave a huge yawn, showing gleaming razor-sharp teeth, then stretched his legs and started out of the den. He nearly screamed with annoyance when he saw Fangclaw talking to Leopardshadow. I hate him! I just steals her away from me! Then, Kobolt gave a slight smug look. And besides, Leopardshadow likes me better ... Fangclaw must have seen Kobolt approaching because he was already giving him a cold green glare. Kobolt ignored him. "Your up", Leopardshadow laughed. "Finally!" Fangclaw muttered. Kobolt narrowed his eyes. "Whats that supposed to mean?", he hissed. Fangclaw gave a smirk. "Oh, nothing! It's just the strongest dragons get up first", Fangclaw taunted. Kobolt hissed with fury. "I'm way stronger than you!", he snarled. "I killed a wolf!". Fangclaw raced up to him until he was a inch away. "Prove it then! We'll fight!".

Kobolt snarled. "Come on, we'll go to the big sandy hollow", Fangclaw sneered. "That should be easy enough for you!". "Are you sure it wouldn't be too hard?", Kobolt smirked. Fangclaw spat. "Watch your mouth, Kobolt!", he snarled. They both pelted torwards the snady hollow. I'll win, easily! He looked behind and saw that many other dragons were following them. Geez, gossip spreads faster than a leaf on a breeze ... When they got there, Fangclaw and Kobolt went to opposite sides of the hollow. "Bring it!", Fangclaw hissed.

Kobolt's eyes were hot with anger. Leopardshadow was watching with a horrifyed look. Fangclaw smirked. Another young dragon, Lostface, yelled out. "Go on, fight!". Fangclaw leaped. He crashed into Kobolt, bowling him over. Kobolt felt teeth grip his neck, not hard enough to break the skin, but firm enough to make him freeze with alarm. He couldn't be beaten this easily! Fangclaw had caught him like a rabbit. Thinking quickly, Kobolt tucked his head and kicked out with her hind legs. He somersaulted forward, taking Fangclaw with him and sending the gray dragon sprawliong onto his back. Free of his grip, Kobolt leaped up, spun around, and flew at Fangclaw. But his rival had rolled out of the way. Seething, Kobolt landed on bare sand. Kobolt glanced sideways. Fangclaw was darting torward him. Energy flashed in Kobolt's paws as he leaped high into the air. As Fangclaw skidded wildly beneath him, Kobolt crashed down onto Fangclaw's back. When will my kai insticts take over? And his? Wrapping his paws over his opponent, Kobolt rolled Fangclaw over and began pummeling him with his hind paws. Kobolt glared down at Fangclaw and saw that his eyes changed from the cold green to a bright yellow. His sabor-teeth gleamed. Slippery as a snake, Fangclaw wriggled free from Kobolt's grasp. He reared onto his hind legs and faced Kobolt with flailing forepaws. "Finish him off, Fangclaw!", Lostface called. "Knock him off his paws!", Leopardshadow yowled to Kobolt. What do you think I'm trying to do?

Kobolt's muzzle was beginning to sting with sharp pain. Fangclaw's blows were strong and well-aimed, and Kobolt didn't want this to go on for much longer. "Come on!", Fangclaw taunted. He lashed his claws out at Kobolt's face. Blood blinded him for a moment and Fangclaw bowled him over and scraped his claws over Kobolt's underbelly. The pale yellow sand was now stained with a tide of hot blood. Kobolt's nostrils flared with fury and he felt hot anger run through him. He let out a roar and his eyes grew bright yellow. He felt his teeth get longer, becoming sabors. Taking a deep breath, Kobolt ducked, leaving Fangclaw flapping his paws at thin air. Kobolt scooted between Fangclaw's hind legs, unbalencing him. Then, Kobolt twisted and sank his sabors into Fangclaw's shoulder. Kobolt felt hot blood against his teeth and Fangclaw yowled in pain, showing Kobolt that he had found a weak spot. Kobolt bit harder. He pressed Fangclaw's chin into the ground. Fangclaw let out an angry wail, struggling furiously, but Kobolt had dug his claws into the earth on either side of Fangclaw. Fangclaw could not get free. "It's all over!!!", Leopardshadow called. "Kobolt is the winner!".

Leopardshadow stood in awe as she watched Kobolt leave the sandy clearing with a proud expression on his face. Fangclaw stood with a hot furious green glare. He unsheathed his claws and his muscules tensed. Is he going to start another fight?, Leopardshadow thought. Fangclaw hesitated, then ran back to camp, leaving behind bloody paw prints. "Well done, Kobolt!", Lostface called. "Great job!" Battleclaw yowled. Kobolt didn't care what they all thought, he galnced at Leopardshadow, as he was only looking for her approval. "You did well." Leopardshadow purred with her warm soft gray eyes. "Thanks." Kobolt purred back. He winced when he moved and Leopardshadow saw that his knee was pulsing with blood. "We should get that looked at." said Leopardshadow. Kobolt nodded. Together they both headed back to camp. Kobolt curled his tail ever so slightly around Leopardshadow's.
