Hawkfrost jolted awake when he realized that he'd almost fallen asleep. Dawn was nearly approaching. Mistyfoot was in her exact same spot she was before hawkfrost had fallen asleep. "your coming on the dawn patrol with me and mosspelt." mistyfoot ordered. hawkfrost wanted to wail with complaint. Its not fair! I've done two hunting patrols, the night watch, and now you want me to come on the dawn patrol!? Are you trying to kill me! "leopardstar's orders." mistyfoot told him. "Fine, I'm coming.' he muttered. As they past by ThunderClan Hawkfrost thought he could detect that same scent he had smelled a couple days ago. "I smell something." he told Mistyfoot and Mosspelt. There you are! Hawkfrost saw a tortoiseshell she-cat running across the border, chasing a squirrel. He leapt out, slapping a huge paw down on the ThunderClan cat and pinned her. "Whats this?" Hawkfrost growled. "ThunderClan cats trespassing on our territory?"

"Were not trespassing!", a tabby ThunderClan apprentice mewed. "Looks!', Mistyfoot yowled. Reedpaw, a RiverClan apprentice ws in the river, letting out a terrified wail. Without warning, Mistyfoot plunged into the river and swam after him. Reedpaw's head went under the water. Mistyfoot dove down after him. a moment of silence passed before her head popped back onto the surface, carrying the small, black apprentice. "Mosspelt, go fetch Mothwing and Mudfur at once!", Mistyfoot ordered Mosspelt. She nodded and raced back to RiverClan. Just then, Hawkfrost was aware of Leafpaw, the ThunderClan medicine cat apprentice, approaching. He looked at her and glared at her with his eerie-ice-blue eyes. "Whats she doing here?", Hawkfrost rasped. "I heard something, so I ran over here and found him", Leafpaw pointed to Reedpaw with her tail. "Its okay, hawkfrost, Reedpaw needs all the help he can get", Mistyfoot hissed at him. Hawkfrost let out a disgusted snort. Mothwing appeared. "What happened?", she asked her brother. "Reedpaw fell in the river", Mistyfoot told Mothwing. Mothwing ran over to help Leafpaw. Reedpaw was very small, newly apprenticed, and he lay quite still, with a trickle of water coming out of his parted jaws. There was a gash on his shoulder; blood was oozing into his sodden fur. leafpaw bent closer to Reedpaw. A huge sigh of relief escaped her as she detected the faint rise and fall of his chest. Reedpaw was still breathing, but his breaths were fast and shallow. Mothwing's huge amber eyes were fixed on the limp body of the apprentice. "Well?", Hawkfrost mewed impatiently. "Get on with it." Mothwing looked up and leafpaw saw panic in her eyes. "i-I'm not sure I brought the right herbs. I'll have to go back to camp"... "Reedpaw hasn't time for that!", Mistyfoot rasped. Hawkfrost looked at Leafpaw. "do you know what to do?", he asked with narrowed eyes. Leafpaw nodded. "Right. Do it. You-out of the way." hawkfrost shouldered his sister to one side so he could get a better view. Leafpaw bent down and worked her shoulder under Reedpaw's, propping him up until water gushed out of his mouth. The apprentice started to cough feebly and let out a faint cry ofpain. Apprentices!

"Come on, Reedpaw, lets get you back to camp.", Mistyfoot whispered to the apprentice. Hawkfrost looked back at Leafpaw. "Thank you.", he murmured and they padded back with thw shooken apprentice. Hawkfrost glanced over his shoulder, ice-blue eyes narrowed at Leafpaw. She stared back, amber eyes wide. He growled and padded back to RiverClan. Mothwing padded closely by, her eyes staring down at her paws, her tabby tail drooping. Hawkfrost snarled. "What did you think you were doing back there?". "Your a medicine cat!", he snarled. "I'm sorry!', she snapped. "I didn't bring the right herbs and Mudfur was out gathering some". Hawkfrost raised his paw, as if he were going to slap her, but sighed and lowered it. He snorted and raced back to camp while Mothwing and Mistyfoot went to the medicine den with Reedpaq.

good thing he didn't hit her!

Hawkfrost padded around the clearing, bored and wanting something to do. Why can't I be out on patrol? He rolled his eyes and let out a snort of disgust as he padded to Leopardstar's den. "Leopardstar?", he mewed. "Yes?", she asked. He sighed. "I need something to do", he confessed. "May I go on a patrol?". "You've done your share, Hawkfrost, and the Clan appreaciates it." Leopardstar mewed. What? Hawkfrost knew he could not question his leader's orders. "Very well", he muttered and padded out. He could see Mothwing shuffling a pawful of herbs while Mudfur, her mentor was in conversation with Stonestream and Voletooth. Mistyfoot padded around the clearing. Hawkfrost caught a glance of her. He felt a flash of admiration at the way her gray fur rippled as she moved. "She-cats!", Hawkfrost muttered. "You can never live with them". Blackcalw approached him. "Up for a small hunting patrol?", he asked. "Of course!", Hawkfrost mewed. He and Blackclaw padded torwards the river and Hawkfrost couldn't help glancing back over his shoulder at Mistyfoot.

"Come on, hawkfrost!", Blackclaw called back. hawkfrost shook his head and quicked his pace. "Where are we going?", he muttered. Blackclaw shrugged. "I thought near the brige and the falls?" he suggested. Hawkfrost nodded. The falls were home to many small mammals who would come to drink there. They walked on until the heard the rudhing sound of the waterfall. "were here", hawkfrost hissed. But Blackclaw darted between the two rocks. He emerged a short second later, carrying a small mouse. Big deal! A kit could catch more than that! Hawkfrost gaped his jaws open, drinking in the air. He smelled a water vole. Wriggling his haunches, he crouched down and began to stalk forward. He pounced, killing it with a swift bite to the neck. "Good job!", Blackclaw purred. "Thanks", hawkfrost mumbled. When they had gathered enough prey, they set off at a brisk trot back to camp. "hey. I noticed your always staring at Mistyfoot and I'm j-" Blackclaw started. "what about her?", hawkfrost bristled. "I don't know." Blackclaw shrugged. he chuckled. "Special to you, isn't she?". Hawkfrost's pelt prickled hot with embarresment. "She means nothing to me!", he spat. "She took my place as deputy and everyone knows I'll make a greater one then her!". 'Okay calm down!", blackclaw growled. hawkfrost didn't notice that his fur was bristled out and his tail was fluffed up to twice its size. "Come on!", hawkfrost snarled, heading back to camp. Blackclaw rolled his eyes and followed.
