Chapter 51.

Spyro woke to a distand sound of chatter and the clancking of metal against metal. He rose from the ground and shook his head to wake himself up. He turned his head only to see Ember, still asleep, who had snuggled up close to him to sleep warmly. Spyro turned his face away with a low growl and went on to see what the noise was all about.

He saw Balak and his men breaking their camp, while Mirra was busy doing something resembling cooking. Spyro walked to him.

"Good morning." Mirra said to him with a happy tone.

"Are you always so positive?" Spyro asked him.

"Only when there is no reason to be negative." Mirra explained and smiled.

Spyro sat on the ground next to Mirra.

"Has anything happened?" He asked.

"No, nothing." Mirra replied, "We haven't seen any messengers approach from the city."

"Right." Spyro said and looked away. He started to think about whether his relationship with Cynder could ever truly be fixed, and got lost in his own thoughts. Meanwhile Mirra continued to cook the party some food.

Suddenly, a large furry hand slapped Spyro on the face, which hurt his scar a bit.

"Hey, snap out of your thoughts." Balak said and laughed a bit, "Too much thinking is bad for you."

"Unf.. Thanks, I guess." Spyro replied. Thinking about it for a moment, he realized that Balak may have been right. He was thinking too much about his own problems, "What's there to eat?" Spyro asked suddenly.

"Wild rabbit." Mirra said, "Took me a while to find one. The forest surrounding the city has been picked clean by hunters."

Mirra suddenly looked to the sky, like he was looking for something. "Huh.. Weird", He said. "That reminded me of Merol."

"You think he's okay? We haven't heard anything from him." Spyro asked Mirra.

"Yeah, I think he's fine." Mirra replied. "He never spoke much about his plans."

Spyro felt confused again. Hunter's disappearance was just another mystery to him.

"INTRUDERS!" an ape soldier suddenly yelled. The party quickly got on their feet, and even Ember happened to wake up from her slumber.

"How many?!" Balak shouted, and ran to the ape soldier.

"I count six. All moles." The ape said, "Easy prey.."

"Not tonight, brother. Those must be our messengers." Balak said, and held the ape soldier by his shoulder, so that he wouldn't charge towards the mole group carelessly.

"We should go.", Mirra nodded to Spyro, "Ember should probably come too."

Spyro nodded to him in response and felt a tingle crawl up his spine. He was eager to hear news from Terrador.

Now, I was in a small hurry here (again), so sadly this chapter needed to be stopped short. I'll post more next weekend if I can to compensate for the four week pause this story had between these last two chapters.

I don't think I'm going to make it with the new chapter today. I apologise, again.

Alright, now. I think I've got it so that I can post another chapter.

Chapter 52.

Spyro, Ember, Mirra and Balak approached the mole messengers on an open field. The moles were armed with nothing but meager hand weapons, and looked like simple townsfolk instead of royal messengers. One of them stepped closer to Spyro, and began to speak..

"You are the purple dragon, Spyro." The mole raised his arm, "We carry a message to you from the earth guardian, Terrador."

"I've been waiting for his message." Spyro replied.

The mole slowly dug a large piece of parchment from his backpack, stepped forward and placed it on the ground. Then he slowly withdrawed back to his own. He was clearly scared of Spyro, hearing what had happened inside the walls of Warfang lately.

"Thank you. You can leave." Spyro said to the moles, who nodded slowly and turned to walk away.

Spyro approached the piece of parchment and rolled it open. A small, metallic token fell from inside the scroll.
Mirra picked the token up and took a look at it. Spyro could see a sudden surprised expression on his face. Like he had seen a ghost..

"Spyro.. What does the message say?.." Mirra asked him quietly.

"What's wrong?" Ember asked Mirra.

"Probably nothing.." Mirra turned back to Spyro, "Just read it out loud."

Spyro turned his face to the hastily scribbled text on the parchemt, and started to read out loud..

Spyro, I'm writing this message hastily, because I can't risk anybody finding out that I'm contacting you.
Frim since you and Cynder first triumphed over Malefor, we, the remaining guardians have been paying close attention to the old prophesy of the purple dragons. The very same prophesy that first caused Malefor to turn evil.
I fear that Cyril has become obsessed with the idea that you could turn evil as well. Cynder has shown her approval for this claim for reasons unknown to me, and so, I fear that Warfang isn't safe for you anymore.

I'm sorry to bring you such dark news, but I also have something that might comfort you. A chance to prove Cynder and Cyril that you have not yet fallen into shadow. A mission, if you will.
Far to southeast, on the burning desert, there stands an ancient city of Kassa. There looms an evil there, not quite up to level with Malefor, but still dangerous. I trust you to be able to deal with it. There is a medallion inside the message, it bears the symbol of this evil.

You shall travel by sea, I have already made the preparations. A ship will be waiting for you just south of Warfang. You will have more information there. Should you decide to discard this mission, I will be forced to send someone else, and you will miss your chance to prove yourself to Cynder.

Until we next meet.

"HA! Sounds like we're going for yet another adventure!" Balak shouted with a cheery tone.

"Yes.. So it does." Mirra said, gazing upon the medallion.

Spyro turned to Mirra, and saw how worried he looked.

"Is something wrong?" He asked Mirra.

"Well.." Mirra answered sluggishly, "This symbol. I've seen it before."

"Really? Where?" Ember jumped in on the conversation.

"Merol had a medallion like this with him when he came to meet me in the village, before his departure." Mirra said.

"Wha- Do you think he's part of this?" Spyro asked Mirra.

"No, of course not." Mirra said. He remained quiet for a moment, "This could only mean that he has received the same mission from Terrador as we have now."

"So the only reason he would send us after Merol, is that something has gone wrong.." Balak grunted.

"So I fear." Mirra said.

"Then we'll go to Kassa." Spyro said. "We'll find hunter, deal with this evil, and then we can all come home together."

"Am I coming along?" Ember asked.

"I don't think that's a good-" Spyro managed to say, before he was interrupted by Mirra.

"She's not safe in Warfang anymore. Her only option is to come with us." Mirra stated.

"Right, we'll take care of her. You don't need to worry." Balak said to Spyro, and smiled.

Ember looked to Balak with a surprised expression. She wasn't used to seeing a friendly ape like him.

"Right then." Spyro nodded, and turned his face to the horizon, his eyes filled with longing, "Looks like I have a purpose again.."

After fully breaking camp, the adventurers set forth towards the shoreline, where their ship would await them..

So, there it was, after a long while. I hope you'll find it refreshing, seeing some new surroundings in the story. This is going to change a lot.

I might try. I'll try to draw it today and see if I can post it tomorrow. I'll aslo see about writing a new chapter tomorrow.

I checked it, and there are no word errors in the first paragraph. Are you sure you saw one?

I'll leave drawing the medallion for later because I really don't have time to start now. There is a small description of it in the text though.

And here begins the new chapter, sorry I was so late again.


Chapter 53.

Spyro and his companions traveled south, towards the sea. Spyro was exited about his newly found motivation, but remained a bit worried about Mirra, who hadn't said a word since they left the campsite.

As they were walking, Balak approached Mirra..

"Is something wrong old friend? You've been very quiet." Balak said, and gently patted Mirra on the back.

"I'm okay, you don't need to worry." Mirra said and shook his head, "I'm just thinking, that's all."

"Bah, you think too much." Balak said, "Let me see that trinket that was in the message."

Mirra dug out the medallion and handed it to Balak.

Balak inspected the medallion carefully, and even gave it a little lick. Then he sratched his head in a confused manner.

"It's.. bronze. I know that taste. The Symbol looks a bit like an eye.."

"Oh, let me see it." Ember said, and walked closer to Balak.

Balak had to bend down to show the amulet to Ember.

"Gross, theres a tongue coming out of the eye!" She said, and withdrawed away from the amulet.

"Show me." Spyro said.

Balak jogged a few steps, and brought the medallion to Spyro, who gave it a long look. Indeed, it looked like a decorated, black eye, and there was a long, curved tongue coming out from under the lower eyelid.

"I wonder what that means.." Spyro said, and then looked at Mirra.

"Don't ask me." Mirra replied quickly, and turned his head away, "I know just as much as you do."

Spyro had the feeling that Mirra was hiding something, but he didn't want to suspect his friend and forgot about it.

Balak gave the medallion one last look, and then handed it back to Mirra. The four continued walking towards the shoreline, and were already getting close.

After a couple of minutes of rest, and an hour of walking, Ember suddenly yelled.

"Look, there it is!" Ember yelled, "The ship!"

Spyro immediately looked up to the treetops and saw the great masts rising above them. This wasn't the first time Spyro had traveled on a ship. He vaguely remembered once being on one before.

Spyro heard the call of sea once again, and took to the skies.

There. I couldn't really focus on this one because I have a raging fever right now, but the quality of the story will not drop, I promise.

I'll add more next weekend, if I have the time.

Sorry people, I've been spending a lot of time resting because of pneumonia lately, so I haven't had the time to write more.

I have figured out how the story will continue though, and I will try to write a new chapter before the next weekend.

I apologize yet again, I've been falling behind a lot with this story because of my duty. I'll get back to adding another chapter as soon as I have the time, which would probably be this weekend.

Well I have one reason right now. Christmas.

I probably won't be writing anything today or tomorrow, like I haven't been for the past weeks. I'm hoping I'll find the will to write something later this week though.

Now I'm home, so..

I'm thinking of adding that long-awaited chapter tomorrow. I've pushed it away because of my schedule for so long, I think you deserve to get to read it by now.
