Because people hate little kids on the internet since the vast majority of them don't know how to act.
As for S&N acting like an exclusive club, I'll admit that it's a problem, but frankly it's a problem that I don't mind it having. I'm aware that S&N was meant to be a joke section where everybody can have a laugh, but some of the stuff that younger users can come up with for laughs is unfunny at best and cringe-worthy at worst. Not to mention that this section has always been prone to drama among older users as it is, and having younger users cause a mess in here is bound for disaster both on the users' end, and the staff's end. S&N, while not exclusive to us, is still a section that is best kept in a semi-mature state of mind amongst people that know how to take a joke or at least acknowledge when someone is joking. And a lot of Skylanders users, sad to say, wouldn't know either of those things. Even ignoring that, though, do Skylanders users even want to be in this section? I've seen a few trickle out but most of them stay in their own sections not because we force them to, but because they choose to. If they are actively deciding to stay in there and have nothing to do with the Off-Topic boards, what is the big problem? I don't think many people keep others out of the section because those outsiders won't fit in properly. It's because they don't want more immature trouble and foolishness than we already have to deal with from people that not simply "won't get the joke", but won't get any joke and cause a problem. |

Uh, I'm inclined to disagree on a few of those. The "this section has always been prone to drama among older users as it is," definitely didn't apply hear until the start of 2010. Even when it was renamed from Spam Central, Stuff & Nonsense didn't pick up the steam it currently has until late in 2009 when Dawn of the Dragon fever had finally died down and people were left twiddling their thumbs because not much happened in the way of Spyro. The thing about younger users causing a mess and having "unfunny to cringe-worthy" humor is probably true if we're talking about making topics that are just random bouts of spam. But that's what the board originally existed for. In the site's earlier days I was probably one of the youngest members on the board (since I lied about my age). Everyone who started posting in Spam Central/early Stuff & Nonsense always came across as awkward, regardless of their age. When I returned to the board in late 2011 I made a lot of awkward posts, and now I'm one of the older guys. The last point I make is about the jokes found here themselves. An extremely large chunk of them are either A) sexual, B) directed at specific members on the site, or C) both. You can't say that this board's style of humor hasn't changed because I can tell you it's changed pretty drastically. I wouldn't blame one of the younger members coming here for the first time if they got a little shellshocked. It just doesn't happen that much because Skylanders is a force to be reckon with and for most of the forum's members it's all they need to come here for. tl;dr: Yes, there were "olden days," when this board was much different and I wish we could go back. But I don't see that happening. ^.^;

@Metallo
I can sense that you are joking, but let me say one thing here. If the site was really turned into an info only site, with the Skylanders and Spyro boards only ones active, what would happen then? Within the time period between Dawn of the Dragon and Spyro's Adventure, the Stuff and Nonsense boards are what kept the site active. What if another instance like that happens? Also, about the Skyros being a nuisance, I can say I was a Skyro too. When I first went into the Sttuf and Nonsense board, I was really confused about everything. I was about a Green Sparx then. I decided to stay within the other boards, but not Stuff and Nonsense. When my hype for Skylanders went own, I needed more options on where to go on the site before I lose interest altogether. I went to Role Plays, Fan Fictions and the Video Gaming topics. I finally decided that if I want to stay on the site, I would have to go through S&N. Here I am, and now I know how things work 'round here.

This topic has been discussed many times ever since the after-months of Skylanders' first release, I've noticed. So I guess I'll state my jumbled opinion on it just this time around. :/
Many skyros tend to be young and ignorant newbies when they join Stuff and Nonsense. It's a bit different from the influx of users who joined for Legend of Spyro because LoS fans were in their early to late teens. I've noticed the Skylanders group tends to be in their preteens - early teens. Slightly older users can easily assert power over skyros because they are initially disliked, and then older users can feel a sense of superiority. You know ... even though THEY themselves were newbies once. Not to mention how some people think Skylanders doesn't belong because Spyro's just kind of there in the game ... for sales. IDK ppl here just dont like Skylanders for some reason -- heck even SKYROS who joined earlier act like they don't like skylanders anymore that just annoys me, because you're giving kids **** just for trying to have fun and enjoying something you don't. sorry, but when you're on a PUBLIC forum you are going to meet people who are different from you. stop acting like this section on a forum about a PURPLE DRAGON WHO IS FRIENDS WITH A BIPEDAL CHEETA is some super kool kids klub that only you're allowed in. you're not cool, you're not top billing, you're just another person on a forum. i'm sorry, if you can't handle younger users, u should probably go onto a forum with an older audience or an age limit. |

I'm of course speaking about my own experience from 2011 onwards. But the thing is..........if someone is turned off by the humor that this section has (which frankly isn't often as inclusive as implied), is that the fault of the users in this section, or their way of shutting everyone else out? It's not like people in here are making sexual jokes as a passive aggressive way of ensuring that Skylanders kids don't get into the mix. That's what the current users are into and when they get older and grow out of this site those Skylanders kids will grow up and end up adopting the humor that currently lasts in this section, since sexual humor is practically a staple of teenage humor. Quote: Spyrobaro
Having a high and mighty attitude over little kids isn't something to be proud of especially when your attitude spreads across everybody in those sections even if some users are mature enough to handle it or are even adults. BUT At the same time so many people in those sections have acted this way where they have come to represent the majority, or at least be vocal enough to make their actions the stereotype of sorts for all people in the sections. If they don't want to be seen that way, the people that know how to act online need to show themselves more often and prove that they are the majority, not the others. Simply saying "not everybody is like that" isn't enough when the most known users out of the sections are notorious for immature or plain bad behavior. Be the rule. Don't be the exception. Quote: Carmelita Fox
I agree with most of this post. And people probably don't like Skylanders because the people that hate it most are nostalgic for the past. Though to be fair, I think at this point many people in this section just don't care about the games. This last paragraph however really bothers me. Thing is, we were all newbies once yes, but we grew out of being newbies because older users pretty much taught us how things are around here, either directly or indirectly through other actions (I didn't learn how to fly straight here until I got trolled). The level of harassment that some users here go to with Skylanders kids is ridiculous, but letting them run wild without much else doesn't help since they will never learn how to take a joke, or how to handle conflict without screaming and banging their fists on a keyboard. We had to learn how to act on a forum (some of us still do frankly). So should they. As for the bolded sentence........well............that's sorta suggesting that users who have built friendships here should just sorta drop it in favor of getting older friends that the might think will be cooler or will fit better with them since there aren't any little kids. I don't think that people who don't want little kids on a site (or, specifically, one section) need to go off to another site. People have, like it or not, built reputations and made friends on here. And while the opposition to new people is overboard to the point of parody, some people might not feel comfortable with new, often younger people getting into that space. They can become paranoid that something will be lost or change to the point where they can't recognize a place that, in terms of the internet, they may have called home. And as far as going to other forums with older people, that's what I did last year (for different reasons obvs) and it stands as perhaps the biggest mistake of my life that I'm still dealing with to this day. The point I'm trying to make is that while it's not actually an exclusive club, it's still a community that was built by several different members and some of them haven't warmed up to the idea of other people getting in on it, especially if they're about to act like how many of the Skylanders kids do (who in some cases, after being here for a while, still haven't matured or changed). I just don't think that hating them with a passion is the right way to go about it. This was honestly one of the most difficult posts I had to write in a while. |

Agree with most of post, however:
Quote: Spyrobaro
Yeah a good amount of bronies aren't creepy or bad, but the majority (or the more vocal minority) have given off bad impressions to everyone outside of the fanbase. Simply claiming "well not everybody is like that" does very little other than state the obvious fact that not everybody is the same person. Those creeps or idiots still exist. They aren't dealt with. And the other people who are mature or don't act ridiculous choose to stay quiet and go on with their business. If they don't want to participate in some sort of movement to fix the image of their respective community then that's fine. But saying "I'm not like that" doesn't change the big picture; it only changes perspectives towards you. As for why some people shut out everybody for not getting things about the section, read the last paragraph of my previous post, I guess. |

Because Skylanders is more popular and a far better game than the original ****e piece of trite , and that makes some crazy old-timers sad. The idea that a reimagining of Spyro can appeal to so much of society, enjoyed equally by both kids and their parents, while their version is forgotten shovelware, makes them hurt in the bottom.
Bring it! * Please note: This post attempts to use hyperbole for comedic effect. If you don’t think it’s funny, or you don’t know what hyperbole is, please rest assured that it was intended to be amusing, not insulting. But Skylanders is way better than the old Spyro games for real though. |

Short answer: yes. Long answer: I did say “bring it” in my previous, more offensive post. I intend to light the signal fires and gather the Skylanders fans behind my banner, so that we may take our place as equals among the seething masses of S&N. I have two secret weapons in this quest: 1) Flame Proof Underwear 2) I’m aged 30+ and I have long since discovered that, in the grand scheme of things, the opinions of people I’ll never meet matter less to my life than the fluff I occasionally fish out of my belly button. And so to those misguided fools who cling to the idea that Skyros should butt out and leave the forums to them, I say; “Stand aside – or be consumed be the flames of my sardonic and slightly clinical diatribes!” |

I guess you're right. They're only horrible when compared with Skylanders. Taken alone they're a series of wildly inconsistent quality that have been (rightfully) consigned to the oubliette of history. Please note, on the off-chance you're really offended: I'm still using hyperbole for comedic effect. Hyperbole: Hyperbole is the use of exaggeration as a rhetorical device or figure of speech |
