Are you sure you want to use the makeshift generator to build a turret near the base? You already have a generator there that is producing redundant power. You just need to build power lines connecting the turret and the generator.

You should save the makeshift generator to quickly build an armed "outpost" outside of the base, further away, since it requires no time to be built.
