Beam Box is going to lose in the end.

Based on the video all the game does is scan the figure with the camera then allows you to use that bird immediately. It's basically just a quick content unlock and this actually isn't dissimilar from what Rovio has already been doing with Angry Bird Star Wars. All they're doing now is making this content unlock more interactive and allowing players to customize how they play the game.

I had the special Kmart exclusive pack with the Hawaiian guys.
They chose the worst place to give exclusives... smilie


Yes, there are several games similar to Skylanders, that came before it, but Skylanders was the biggest innovation.

^ That was Target exclusive. Kmart was the Boss pack with Master Lox, Henchman, Bones, and whoever the other one was. And I keep saying that Funkeys was before Skylanders.

this is how you basically turn people off to the toys to life type of gaming. with so many competitors getting into it, it's very good way to kill everything off. only takes a certain amount of people off each of those to get interest and stop getting into skylanders for example

Both the Angry Birds Star Wars game and the Transformer game look absolutely horrid to me. I won't just the Star Wars one just yet as I think if done right could at least be "okay" but the plug and play Transformer game is just shameful. The coolest thing about that "game" is that the figures disappear when you activate the teleporter. Wow!

It's causing me a facial tic every time people are referring to it as the "Transformers game", LOL! It's only technically labelled Transformers, it is SO far removed from Transformers... Makes me regret more that they made this stupid Rescue Bots show in the first place.

I wonder if the angry bird crowd will really effect skylanders. Angry birds is more for phones and ios devices, than the casual or hardcore video gamer player. I assume they are cheaper in price and they are cute so people will collect them just for that factor.

The thing these companies are not necessarily paying attention to is just how good the character designs are for Skylanders. When I got the game I'd literally never heard of any of these characters but Spyro, but they're all SO COOL and play so well. Some companies need to be careful not to just slap some characters in a game and expect people to want them.

I'll have a video of the toys and the game coming for Family Gamer TV this week. I think these will sell pretty well, especially the 6 character jedi/sith pack with just the characters in. Still need me some Boba Fett though!
