I was just commending playablemoogle on a comment that made me laugh. I felt he should be recognized for his accolades.

Then I simply segwayed from his comment to my brainstorm that evolved into an idea for a movie that involves skylanders in one way or another.

Here's what my GameStop said. They are supposed to receive them BY the 11th. It has been removed from the system so that they can sell it whenever they get them in. She checked my preorder specifically. Still there. She will be calling me when they get them in.

Essentially there's no longer a release date and its just whenever they get shipped. She insisted by the 11th. All we can do now is wait.

Just went to the GameStop where I pre-ordered mine and this is exactly what they told me. They even went in the back room and checked today's shipments and said if it was there I could have it now as they can sell it upon receiving it. No luck, it wasn't in their shipments for today.

I heard someone mention that it wasn't a problem with Activision, but their shippers are on strike. Not sure if this is true or not...but that may be the problem at hand for the shipments arrival.

Gamestop's shippers? Gamestop, and back when they were Software Etc./Babbages always had a bad habit of lying to the customer. I called every Gamestop in my city just now and some were trying to give me the factory error excuse, the shipping error excuse, the Activision's fault excuse. I've heard it all today. Though, some stores have the idea they will be out tomorrow, while others said they got an email stating by Friday, and whatever of the next 3 days it comes, they can sell it as soon as it comes in.

Yeah Gamestop is pretty much full of crap. Trust me I would know. I worked there for a year. Its company policy to make up stuff on the fly and tell customers.

I worked on the Funcoland side of things waaaay back in the day. I enjoyed it, but hated commission and sales percentages based on cleaning kits and subscriptions, which many people hated you for trying to sell them.

Note: now I have helped derail the thread in a new direction.

Also: thanks for the appreciation, gamecocksc17. I enjoyed your suggestion, as well. smilie

Actually the supplier/shipping company to Gamestop used by Activision are on strike.

I didn't know UPS is on strike?
According to my GameStop, that is the currier that is used to deliver Skylanders.

They use different shippers, depending on if the stock is coming from their warehouses or direct from the vendors. They use UPS (or did last I remember) for shipping stock from their own warehouses, and most Skylanders aren't direct shipped - I imagine these are since they are a special exclusive promotion. Therefore, it is possible that is a cause for the confusion.

Also, as far as figure sin the mobile games, if it says "Coming Soon", they do not have the data loaded in the game yet - it will come in an update later. At least that is how it was for Cloud Patrol, back before Wave 3 (SSA) shipped. The Legendaries were part of the "Coming Soon" selections, and they wouldn't register with web codes until the update that added them, then they were just grayed out until you activated them with a code. Lost Islands does not have ANY figures available that aren't out yet. Hot Dog is not even shown as an option (even though he is on the title screen), nor are the 3 giants that aren't out yet.

Funcoland...Wow...Now THAT brings back memories. LOL...Haven't heard that name in years.

I wouldn't have thought a thread like this would end up here.

People...It's a video game message board about a game that is for younger kids...Politics? REALLY? COME ON MAAANNN....

And yeah, the Ebay/Amazon crowd that scoops up all the inventory is annoying for sure for us "Just want one for my kid(s)/myself" folks, but what are you gonna do? This stuff has been happening forever.

Funny story about scalping: Back in my teens I worked at a "Sportmart" in the midwest. (Basically just Sports Authority...I think it was actually bought out by them.) Shoe department. It was back in the days when "Jordans" were immensely popular and you had to drop triple figures to get a pair retail and they were tough to get. Every time a new version would come out, this same asian guy would come in first thing in the morning on release day and buy every pair between 8 and 12 men's...Every single pair. The story was (this was before internet) he would ship them back overseas and make big money on them. (Never confirmed...but it was obvious it was for resale wherever he did it) There was NOTHING more disappointing than an excited kid and their parent coming in within the next couple hours and the inevitable "I don't understand, they just came out...You don't have ANY?"

Well, when you talk about Skylander availability, it is inevitable that scalpers come up. They have been a scourge of the Skylanders since they hit the big time. And when you talk about scalper motivations that leads to economic discussion, which leads to political discussion. And when you get some yahoo that gets his pants in a bunch and refuses to own what his political party has as part of their stated platform (unfettered capitalism), it turns into a debate. But, a few posts went back and forth, derek stormed off, and it is back on topic.

I remember Air Jordans though. And of course there have always been products like this. Teddy Ruxpin, TMNT, Star Wars figures, the Wii, and on and on. When you have a popular product it draws profiteers like flies to syrup. And they don't care how many excited kids they crush on the way to scraping a few extra dollars off the top of someone else's invention. I don't get how someone can do it, I've seen many rare figures in my time I could have scalped, but it just seems evil to me to take advantage of children's excitement. I saw a guy that posted a picture in another forum last year of a half dozen Warnados and Camos right when they came out, and asked him why he felt the need to buy 6 of each. His answer was "because they didn't have any more and stop being a socialist!" and people that wanted them needed to "work harder" to find them - or they could go to his Ebay auctions.

I agree with Def. People are going to have to understand that mature convo always leads in other directions. Political discussion was talked about in the sense of free market, which scalpers value, and scalpers scalp what that we like? Skylanders. It was totally on topic.

Now, if we went off topic, we would be talking about instances of politics that doesn't relate to free market thinkers. We could sit there and talk about the GOP and Dems working together to pass the law that avoids the worst parts of the fiscal cliff. Now that would have been off topic. But, Def and I kept it grounded to Skylanders and scalpers, and availability of product in certain cities, and people's assumptions of a cities size, which lead me to posting pics of my car, based on someone thinking OKC is nothing but dirt roads, just because we're in the southern plains.

But, anyhow... scalpers suck, and I want Hot Dog. smilie
