I hate for the sake of you and the broader community that it does but I perceive that it is a limited edition thing and the price won't come down (much).

Will be interesting to see how many of these pop up online over the next few weeks. Currently the price threshold is $90 and doesn't seem to be going down for now. On top of that the blue Wii's ebay selling price is hovering around $50, and even Wham Shell has finally started going down, meaning folks considering the blue Wii bundle might have a harder time recouping their costs. smilie

Wham Shell is no longer that rare which is why his prices have gone down. You can go into any TRU now and pay $30 to buy that cardboard castle thing which comes with Wham Shell.

Got mine today. Definetly worth it. Ended up taking the castle back with the receipt I got the day it came out so I only paid 120. Now the only thing I'm missing is the gitd fright rider legendary stealth elf and the stone variants

Don't worry, Landerfan and others. Keep checking and the prices will continue to drop.

What some people don't seem to grasp is that Skylanders (and most modern toys and games, for that matter) are the polar opposite of things like baseball cards, comic books, etc. Comics, cards... the main thing that grows their value is time, followed by scarcity. For most toys and games, their value only holds until the market of people buying them second hand dries up.

Remember the folks who paid thousands for a Wii when they were the hot item? Or a Tickle Me Elmo? Or a Power Ranger? Ninja Turtles? Furby? Sleep and Snore Ernie? Pokemon cards? Take 10 minutes and check these items on eBay. See? No market = no second hand monetary boom for those selling them. There was a time when I would have paid well over $200 for an $8 Raphael action figure, and now you can get that very same figure for PENNIES - even mint on card! Hell, remember when Legendary Trigger Happy was fetching well over $100 on eBay? Now you'd be lucky to get even store price for one second hand.

Of course there are exceptions to every rule, namely extremely rare items that can still fetch a high price - mint NES/SNES RPGs in boxes jump to mind, but I'm sure there are more than just that. I'm equally sure that Skylanders will NEVER be an exception to that rule; the games and systems will age, narrowing things down to only the most insane of Skylanders collectors. Expect that population to be miniscule before we elect the next president (2016).

Let's face it - Activision will kill the Skylanders franchise - just like they did with Guitar Hero and Call of Duty - by oversaturating the market with yearly releases, among all the other licensed crap they can churn out. The mainstream market will tire of the franchise, and even collectors will probably move on to something else, frustrated by all the unnecessary variants, impossible to get exclusives, etc. As the shift takes place, keep checking eBay for Gnarly Tree Rex and others. You probably won't be able to get him for any less than $50 before the end of 2012, but by summer 2013 you may see him for as little as $20.

For all the people who paid way too much for their Gnarly Tree Rex toys.... the bashing can begin... NOW!

you're right. last year, i started trying to collect these transformers from the 80's called Beast Wars. you could by Optimal Optimus for $25-$30 on ebay, even though he probably cost $40-$50 when they were first being sold.
By the way, the cheapest buy it now on ebay for GTR (Gnarly Tree Rex) is selling for $75. this is a $5 decrease from yesterday

I wasn't that interested in Gnarly Tree Rex until yesterday, then out of curiousity I posted 2 seperate personal ads. The first one was selling the baby blue Wii unit (including the reciept for warranty purposes) and the second was the Starter Pack portion with a normal Tree Rex substituted. I'm not bragging, but there were TONS of replies to both and in the long run Gnarly Tree Rex ended up costing me around $20. I'm actually contemplating doing it a few more times, to get additional Gnarly Tree Rex's for my kids. Rather then buy these outrageous priced ones on eBay, you'd probably benefit from a little leg-work (selling the extra stuff yourself).

I actually did think about the people who would sell Gnarly because it is "just a recolor." The only problem there is even if you do find one at a Gamestop, it won't have the online code, sticker or trading card.

I'm counting on that. I don't care about the card nor the web code. Coz I have a portal to register Gnarly. BOO YAH.

Don't be silly about this, people. Buy the Wii setup, sell everything but the figure, and you'll likely even come out ahead. I made $40 adding Gnarly to my collection.

Selling everything but the GTR was my original plan. But my brother had a stroke and I got to thinking about it. I'm going to give him the Wii and get him like, Wii Play and some hunting/fishing games. Hospitals use them and I'm hoping it'll help w his coordination, etc. so now I'm just going to sell the portal and the game. I think he'd be more into outdoors stuff than Skylanders. And at least I'll get a little bit of money back. And I'll have GTR.

Lander, it's probably going to take some time before it goes down further in price. Right now there's still insanely heavy demand for it, and it'll still fetch that price or more from people wanting it. Heck, Dark Spyro's still going for $30 and he's far more easily obtainable.

I think you fail to consider the potential of this franchise so you might be wrong. Although we all know that this franchise can and may die like some of Activision's Franchises, you have to also know that franchises like pokemon and yugi-oh are still around (FYI I sold 3 pokemon cards worth $150 each just a couple of months back so pokemon is not dead). This proves that with the right planning and marketing, Skylanders could be here to stay for years to come. The key here is the combination of the video game and the toys. While many video games and toy companies struggled with this platform or approach, Activision figured out the formula to make it work. I've been with this game since day one and I've had experience with games, toys, and collectibles so I know a good game or collectible when I see one and Skylanders has a hint of everything that I want in a hobby/collectible or video game plus more. Even if Activision does kill the franchise, I can honestly say that I will keep the toys and the game. Why you may ask? Because the game itself and the figures have a huge replay value and for once it has a"fun" element in it that is somewhat rare in most video games that we see today.

I predict the best game from this franchise is yet to come (2013!) which will include the online PVP and some new creative ways to utilize the figures (skylander evolutions like pokemon)?
