Activision's handling would obviously change how Spyro is. So I honestly find those topics to be the same.
Not really because at the time no one knew what Activision was going to do, some were wondering if they were going to continue LoS somehow, or maybe change the gameplay of LoS. Some thought they were going to go back to the original series, or simply remake the original series, and then the final option was that they were going to reboot it once again, but I think some if not most of us thought that they weren't going to do that, as it meant that us fans would have to get used to a brand new idea all over again, and it has only been a mere two/three years since the last reboot. Also because of the long break we thought that DOTD was the last ever game until certain information leaked out. And even then, all we had was a test title to go by, and still didn't know if it was a reboot or not.
Therefore I disagree with you because in the past, we literally didn't have a clue what was going on.
