No, they don't. A fan is someone who gets involved with it, and still plays them, and essentially follows the franchise.

It's like how I used to be a fan of Pokémon, but I don't play them any more, nor do I really want to, so therefore, I'm not a fan.

But it depends. I no longer play many games, but I'm still considered a fan of the series they're part of, even though I don't get involved in it.

You can still be a fan, even if you no longer have any involvement in it. Many people still love the older games, and consider themselves fans, but that doesn't mean they play them anymore.

I know, it does depend. I don't play much Crash anymore, but I want to(currently playing CTR, actually).

As for Pokémon, I wouldn't consider myself a fan of that anymore.
