The Darkest Hour (TDH) was simply a working title for DotD and was never announced as the official name. It was somehow leaked and wasn't meant to be released onto the public.

If you look on the Sierra website the slogon for DOTD is 'The Darkest Hour comes right before the Dawn' smilie

Sparx: I told you she was EVIL! *flys screming out of romm again*

Dark Cynder: Master... The ....Dragoness.. she is .... fighting .... back ...and winning..... KILL ME!

Malefor: *blasts Dark Cynder with VERY powerful earth blasts just as normal Cynder emerges (Killing Cynder smilie )*

Spyro: *crying* How could you do that?! YOU WILL PAY! *turns into Dark Spyro and kill Malefor one way or the other. Runs over to Cynder (he is Normal Spyro now) And licks he cheek and goes to a never ending sleep next to her*
