That night, it was not completely dark. The two moons shone beautiful white light over the land. The white light reflected off Malefor's scales, making them shine. Spyro was having his usual night flight with Cynder, enjoying the sights. Spyro slowly landed a fair distance from Malefor and crept a few steps closer. Cynder landed dow behind him and watched.
"Be careful, Spyro....." She whispered. Spyro crept closer to Malefor, but stayed a fair distance from him fearing that without Melanie around, Malefor could swing around and attack Spyro in a split second. When Spyro was only a few metres from Malefor, he became more scared. Malefor was awake, and clearly knew Spyro was there, but he didn't look at him. Out of pure curiosity, Spyro put out his hand to poke Malefor's wing. Cynder covered her eyes with her wings, and Spyro closed his eyes. His claw gently touched Malefor's wing, but Malefor didn't do anything. Spyro jumped back a few metres.
"Malefor......" Spyro whispered, a bit scared. Malefor lifted his head and looked at Spyro, not showing any expression. Spyro thought he may have chosen the right time to communicate with Malefor.
"That chain.... is it magic?" Spyro asked, being careful not to get him angry.
"My finest." Malefor replied. Even when he whispered, Malefor's disstorted voice was rather loud. Malefor rested his head on the ground, and Spyro and Cynder flew away.

Malefor was upset when he looked at Spyro and Cynder, knowing that he sent armies to destroy the eggs of innocent unborn dragons, while trying to destroy Spyro's egg, and knowing that he corrupted Cynder- not only stealing away precious years of her childhood, but leaving her with the haunting memories. The next morning, Melanie went to visit Malefor as she usually does. This time he was slightly transparent to her, because he was in the purple realm, which Melanie could see into.
"If I had have known what a horrible monster I was going to become, I would have never wasted the guardians' time making them train me. I would have stayed a normal dragon, able to live a happy life with my great friend, you." Malefor said. Melanie couldn't think of a response to the comment.
"Have you seen Spyro and Cynder lately?" Melanie asked.
"Yes...... but sometimes I wish they would stay away from me, I can't stand having my memory jogged of what I put them through....." Malefor replied. "It seemed as though the more powerful I became, the further our friendship drifted away. I was too focused on being better than everyone else, I forgot how to care."

".... I hardly remember how my voice became so disstorted.... Sometimes I hardly understand what I'm saying." Malefor whispered.
"I'm not sure whether it happened over time or all of a sudden, but it hasn't changed back." Melanie said.
"....... Did you see the chronicler in your dreams?" Malefor asked.
"Yes I did..... he said something about... my destiny.... was to give you... a happy ending......" Melanie said. Malefor was rather suprised.
"I hardly remember what he said in my dream, but I really don't think I deserve a happy ending after all I've done." Malefor grunted.
"The chronicler told me your life was like a story, with a beginning, a long existing problem, and blank pages..... supposedly where I am ment to create you a happy ending......" Melanie explained.
"Your right. It would be a happy ending for everyone if I were just gone forever." Malefor said. Melanie was slightly upset by the comment, but didn't show it. She flew away to the temple.

Malefor watched Melanie fly away. He then slipped out of the purple realm. Malefor watched a baby not-a-quokka rodent scurry out of the hole near him. Malefor started to drool at the thought of eating it. He tried to catch the creature, but every pounce and swipe missed the agile rodent. But it semmed to stay within his reach. Malefor dived hungrily onto the rodent, but it jumped back into the hole. Malefor lied back down and stared at the hole, waiting for something to come out. When he tried sticking his hand into the hole, he got bitten.
"Yeouch!" He said, jumping back. He mumbled a few angry words and curled into a ball and fell asleep. The next day, Malefor was lucky. One of the rodents was sitting there, sniffing the air. Malefor grabbed it and ate it in one gulp. With a flash, he was back in the purple realm, where the other purple dragons were discussing.
"This man has is capable of killing us all...." One of them said. Malefor heard and thought they were talking about him.
"His sword absorbs the power of a drragon and turns it againgst the whole of dragonkind....." Another purple dragon said. Malefor reallised ther may be talking about someone else.
"If his sword gets Melanie.... we are all done for." A third purple dragon said. Malefor's eyes widened in shock. He wanted to yell out asking who this man was, but he never wanted to communicate with the purple dragons in the purple realm, and he thought he would be useless againgst anyone.

The dragon guardians stood around all the eggs in the temple, waiting for them to hatch. It would only be a few more days. This time of year was the one all dragons looked forward too. Even Malefor hoped the egg hatching would be successful, but at the same time he dreaded it because it reminded him of when he sent an army to destroy the eggs of so many unborn dragons. That's why Cynder was Spyro's only friend who was his age. Melanie appeared in the distance, flying towards Malefor. For once he was very anxious to talk to her.
"Melanie! I'm so glad you're here!" Malefor said.
"What is it?" Melanie asked. She was a bit scared, because if Malefor ever needed to desperately say something to her it was definitely important.
"I heard the purple dragons discussing something about a man...... a man with a sword capable of destroying the entire dragon race."
"H..how?" Melanie asked, in shock.
"When stabbed into a dragon, not only does the sword kill it but also absorbs all the dragon's power and turns it againgst us.... If this sword gets you..... I don't even want to think about it...." Malefor explained.
"Who is this person?" Melanie asked, panicking as bit.
"I didn't have the guts to ask... sorry...." Malefor replied.
"I'll be extra careful and keep a look out for anything suspicious." Melanie said, before flying away.

This is so great!

Malefor has haunted by nightmares that night. He hadn't otten good sleep in a while, so he spent most of the day lying still. When he was in the real world, a few people thought he was a dead body.
Back at the temple, a few eggs had hatched. There was an ice dragon, two wind gragons and an electricity dragon. Everyone was delighted, but there was still at least eighty eggs to go. Melanie was so excited, she told Spyro and Cynder. She wanted to tell Malefor, but she new that talking about the egg hatching evey few years made him upset. Melanie just walked over to Malefor and greeted him.
"How's the egg hatching going?" Malefor yawned, his eyelids droopy. Melanie thought that maybe she could tell him.
"A few hatched earlier today..." Melanie replied.
"That's good to hear. But just be careful, that person everyone's been talking about could ruin the whole thing....." Malefor replied.

I need a little more resting time, but I will have another chapter tomorrow. I am also afraid this fanfic may be nearing the end..... but I will keep it going as long as I can.

After about an week, all the dragon eggs had hatchedwith success and joy. Nearly all the dragons were celebrating, only Malefor wasn't. Malefor was lying on his side, weak and sick, after a visit from Melanie, when he noticed something. As Melanie flew off, the same ametuer-looking dragon hunter who threatened Malefor before was stalking Melanie...... but he was holding a sword. A long, razor-sharp glowing sword surrounded by magic fumes.
"MELANIE HE'S AFTER YOU!!!!" Malefor yelled, running out as far as he could, pulling the chain. But Melanie was far off in the distance and didn't hear him. The sneaky dragon hunter ran after her.
"This human is capable of causing what I wrongly tried to cause a long time ago...... complete destruction......" Malefor sobbed with his head down. He felt weak and useless. But a sudden flashback of all he had seen, heard, felt and done triggered a wave of power. Malefor bit the magic chain his hardest and pulled. With a bright flash and loud shattering sound, the chain was snapped. Malefor looked at the other rather amazed purple dragons, with the piece of golden chain in his mouth. He looked fierce and determined.
"I only wanted over for me, not everyone." Malefor said. He flew into the distance. The felling of flight and freedom never felt so good, but he knew what he needed to do.

Melanie grew tired of flying, so she landed and began walking. The dragon hunter siezed the chance to attacked, jumping in front of her and holding up his sword.
"And who are y.... oh... Oh no......" Melanie said, seeing the magical and dangerous looking sword. Melanie was only a short distance from the temple, where she was going to celebrate the first completely successful mass dragon hatching in 132 years.
"Judging by your fearful expression, you know what this sword is capable of....." The dragon hunter said. "Such a shame your dragon friends weren't here to watch...." He held up the sword. "From now on, I will no longer be the dragon hunter, I'll be the dragon SLAYER!!!!!" A purple blur whizzed past, kocking the man off his feet. It was Malefor! Melanie was excited and confused, she could hardly speak. Malefor bit the man's neck and stabbed him with his claw.
"No use! I can't die until this sword has pierced the flesh of a dragon!" The dragon hunter laughed.
"Then it can be mine!" Malefor yelled, scratching furiously at the man's face. The dragon hunter was in pain, and could not wait to kill as many dragons as he could, even if it killed him. He stabbed the sword into Malefor's chest. It sliced straight through. Melanie covered her face with her wings as the sword glowed. The dragon hunter laughed furiously, but was in awe when nothing happened.
"That sword only turns a dragon's magic power againgst dragonkind. I gave up my powers long ago to the friend who deserved it most. i'm afraid that sword only killed me alone." Malefor said. The Dragon hunter screamed in fury and rage as he dissappeared, before melanie and a few other dragons ran over to Malefor. A confused crowd was building up.

Well, there are one or two chapters left. The next one is Malefor's speech.

Sorry 'bout the delay!

Malefor was in the worst pain he had ever felt. He felt all the negative emotions flowing through him. But inside he knew that it would have to end soon, that it would truly be over. He began to speak. But his voice was no longer warped and disstorted, it was clear, soft and understandable.
"Finally, Your dreams have been rid of an unwanted nightmare." He said. "After all the terrible unforgetale things I did to this world, being in the purple realm wasn't enough punishment. I was never capable of binding with nature, or bringing hope for the future. My life story has been one of despair, hate and pain, I have affected everyone and now they shall celebrate my end. Melanie, it is up to you to end this."
Melanie had a sad look on her face, knowing how she was once great friends with Malefor. But she knew Malefor wanted it to end, and that the rest of the dragons would feel better. Melanie's hand glowed purple, as she placed it on the deep wound on Malefor's chest. Malefor smiled, not the twisted evil smile everyone knew, but the gentle smile Melanie knew from long ago. In a bright pillar of purple light, Malefor dissappeared.

Meanwhile, Malefor floated in a void of nothingness, feeling no pain or suffering at all. He heard Ignitus's voice.
"Your story ends here, Malefor, but rest assured Melanie's will go far." Ignitus said.

The end, kind of.
