That would be nice but I doubt it. I think this site has taken a turn for the worst. An age limit won't change anything. People will still lie about their age, and with the way Spyro is, there is no way. Once again, simply look at what some people consider mean, and the way some people act on here, such as whinnign about a game that isn't working on a system. I think Spyro2008 wasn't banned due to trolling, but other members imaturity. Same with spyro fan 8, instead of being something that broke the rules, it was reported because someone lacking maturity or brains. But isn't that how most post fall under rule breaking these days? I wouldn't be suprised if I was next, Dark's choise of who to ban has become so poor. Anyone smart might have already suspended someone for tracking or constantly trolling, such as Robo, but no, it was the one who was a troll who got the other banned. The lack of Mods doesn't help, but it isn't like you have a large selection for people either ways. Perhaps Bmah of Cynder543 would do a great job, but thats isn't going to happen either.

I agree. Dark52 is banning/suspending all the wrong people. Simply because the younger kids can't handle anything. If they can't handle even a small opinion, they shouldn't even be on the internet because they will have a hard time.

Nice to know someone agrees.

But that was then, and we both made that mistake, and was fixed and fogiven. Now is now, and is something doesn't happen, every old and smart member is going to be banned because little kids can't handle maturity as in excepting opnions and dealing with the fact that they aren't the most important thing ever.

Perhaps, however if he does, I hope he doesn't see it the bad way, or the next topic in here might be "Why is black dragon banned?".

Right. Time to quote a bunch of people.

Quote: BlinktheCookie
Because of all the oversensitive 8-yr-olds on this site, we've lost quite a few of our luxuries. I'm talking about enabling fodder to post, and people not getting banned or suspended as easily.

Guest posting was removed due to misuse of it. People are banned less easily nowadays, just there's been a few close together. For instance, I once banned somebody for using capital letters at the start of every word in their posts, people breaking more serious rules than slightly disruptive posts and subsequently getting banned is not really more "easily" than before.

Quote:
I do understand our site has younger users, but if they get offended and are not happy with the site's content, there isn't a rule keeping them from leaving. Honestly, a mob of users that are to young to be on the internet are no reason to change the site this drasticly.

The site has always been intended to be usable by all Spyro fans, nothing has changed.

Quote:
I'm just suggesting that people stop getting banned, suspended, and having their messages moderated as easily just because younger veiwers may not be suited to this kind of content.

A few posts are moderated due to being inappropriate to younger visitors but the majority are standard internet trolling, spam and disruptiveness that have nothing to do with age.

Quote:
Well, maybe Dark52 should actually read the moderated messages before he deletes them just because some petty 8-yr-old reported someone. Also, there should be an age limit so we don't have to have the site censored for the younger users.

All reports are read and considered before action is taken. You might disagree with my decision but that doesn't mean it was just clicked through without thinking.

An age limit has been denied many times before and it is now again denied. Spyro is a game aimed at all ages, including those below whatever arbitrary age limit you think should be implemented, and so the forum should be too.

Quote: bmah
I never saw dark52 acting otherwise. The other thing is that we might not know the full story to every complaint

You also don't see every complaint, not everything reported gets moderated. It's also certainly no coincidence that the majority of whining about unfair moderations is accompanied with a highly skewed version of events from the person whining.

Quote: Cynder_543
And it's only the people who are young (about 9 years old) who can't handle the trolling.

Trolling has nothing to do with the age of either party.

Quote: black dragon

No, he was banned due to trolling.

Quote:

You can be moderated without having been reported by anyone.

Quote:

Only if they consistently argue with those "little kids" and take those arguments too far, they should know better what with being "old and smart" and all.

Yes, but the internet isn't aimed at all ages, there are people that aren't ready for forum sites, and playing Spyro doesn't require a membership on these sites.

You know, as much as I'd love to have this site to have an age limit, I now think it might not work. People will still be immature on this site. There are some kids who are 13 or over 13 who are still immature. Age doesn't really relate to immaturity. It is not impossible to have a 20 year old not acting mature for his/her age. A 17 year old can act like a 5 year old, and a 6 year old can act like a 13 year old.

I don't really see why this topic needs to be a problem. Let's get some things straight here, on the record:

  • If you are an older member on this site and cannot find it within yourself to talk in a respectable manner to a younger member, you are in dire need of a little humility and introspection. Insulting a younger member for any reason is no better than a common bully "picking on the little guy." Perhaps you are doing it to boost your own self-confidence because in the real world you are the "little guy?"
  • Let's face it... little kids like to whine and throw temper tantrums. And the internet provides them a medium to throw their temper tantrums without such annoying things as a parent screaming back at them. If you are noticing a particular member who has a tendency to fly off the handle over trivial matters there are several ways to approach. The first is obviously to ignore this user's posts. Hopefully said user would realize nobody's paying attention to them because their posts aren't thoughtful. Then they would realize "Hey, I need to put some time into making these posts." The second method is meant more for younger members who seem to be taking aim at you in particular. Rather than dealing with your attacker in threads, USE THE PM SYSTEM. The privacy of the PM system enables calm and collective collaboration between multiple users without the fear of interference from other forum users. If you can't work out your differences by a PM conversation, THAT is when you drag a mod or admin into the thick of it.
  • Many little kids are still unfamiliar with this thing called "keyboards." It's rare you see a younger kid who has mastered the typing skill. Many of them are forced to stare down at the keyboard and utilize one hand to search for the letter they want to type. Often times they're too lazy to do things like capitalize or write complete words (hence the influx of chatroom speak in younger members' posts) because of this issue. It is your job as the older member to set a good example and respect the younger members' rights to express their thoughts in wording that is comfortable to them. Only intervene if the member's post is cluttered with conventional mistakes to the point where the post is incongruous and no longer makes rational sense. But rather than using harsh criticism, a simple "Sorry, could you repeat that, I didn't quite get it," will suffice.

If you have problems with things like these, then maybe it's YOU who's not ready for the internet. >.>

xD I was like that in 6th grade.

The issue does still persist, and I posted that with my PS3. D: It isn't up to date with this site for some reason, and I didn't know July was month 7, not 6... XD Had a brain fart when posting.

Also, I noticed that while dark argues he does fine, I noticed he didn't delete a post that was clearly breaking the rules. An explicit post of a serious "STFU" is something even I don't like. (I'm not sure if the post is still there; I'll have to look.)

And the reason why there were taken away is for "trolling". But there are other comments that break the rules, yet they don't get removed. So basically, he gets rither the wrong posts.
