I love ant now!

my cat oscar, was also a runt! that's where i got the inspiration of ant!


phoenixpaw slowly opened his eyes. he stretched his legs out then sat up. where am i? is this...a dream? phoenixpaw looked up. why is the moon red? he padded over to a nearby bush. he narrowed his eyes. he noticed gorseclaw from the distance. who's he holding in his mouth? and who's that gray cat right next to him? phoenixpaw heard a rustle in the ferns. ant? is that you? wildpaw? silverpaw...yellowpaw?...anyone? phoenixpaw! phoenixpaw wake up! wake up! phoenixpaw woke with a sudden jolt. ''ant?'' ''i can't sleep.'' ''why?'' ''its so dark out...i've never been outside the house when i used to live with the twolegs...'' ''oh, i'm going to get you some fresh-kill. it will help, believe me.'' he arched his back as he he made his way out of the den. phoenixpaw slowed his pace to a slow trot. he carefully removed a vole from the pile then quickly raced back to the den. the scent of the warm scrap made his belly rumble. ''here.'' he dropped the vole to ant's paws. ant sniffed it then took a small bite. ''this...this awesome!'' phoenixpaw's whiskers twitched in amusement. ''keep eating, and that was the vole i caught yesterday after i left.'' ''cool!'' he mewed. ''i'm going to sleep...goodnight...'' ''goodnight ant...'' said phoenixpaw as he curled in his nest. ''phoenixpaw,'' ''yes ant?'' ''when will i become a warrior?'' ''until you finish your training....you will, don't worry...'' wildpaw opened one of her eyes then closed them.

''ant?'' ant faced him, then oakpaw. ''how are my young warriors today?'' purred silverclaw, as he padded over to the apprentices' den along with raventail at his side. ''um...who's this?'' said raventail, sniffing ant. ''a kittypet! phoenixpaw-'' ''i can explain!'' ''go see flamestar, along with this-this...'' said silverclaw firmly. phoenixpaw dipped his head as he dragged his tail out of the den. he slowly approached flamestar. ''yes phoenixpaw?'' ''you see, there was this kittypet who decided to join us and...i was wondering if you could let him...'' he stammered. ''the forest is no place for a kittypet. you should have known that by now.'' he hissed. ''i know, i know. but he really wants to...please?'' ''does he still have his claws?'' ''i do! look!'' said ant, sheathing, and unsheathing his claws. ''i see. but you still need to prove yourself to the clan. the same goes for you.'' ''i didn't want to dissapoint you flamestar. i just thought that we needed more warriors.'' ''i'll think about it.'' he meowed. ''yes, flamestar.'' said phoenixpaw, dipping his head respectfully then raced out of the den. ''come on ant!'' ant pelted towards him. ''see! i told you he brought a kittypet!'' hissed oakpaw from the distance. wildpaw frowned as she watched him. yellowpaw and silverpaw spat and hissed at oakpaw, and hawkpaw. ''thats enough!'' growled toadfoot. ''it has been decided,'' ''what?'' asked raventail. ''that the kittypet shall stay, but he needs to prove himself.'' phoenixpaw and ant scrambled their way towards the others.

''and just smell him for a moment! he carrys the scent of those nasty twolegs!'' she continued. both phoenixpaw's and ant's patience were running out. suddenly, ant lunged at the warrior, racking his claws into her body. she hissed and spat as she crunched on his neck. he yowled in pain as she snapped her jaws onto his callor. yes! the callor! mousefang began to tug on his callor. she pulled harder. SNAP! ant callasped. he struggled to his paws then shok his head. the callor was off! ''you're free now ant! starclan wants you with us!'' purred phoenixpaw. flamestar emerged from his den. he gazed at the callor then faced ant. he nodded then made his way towards ant. phoenixpaw looked at wildpaw then smiled. ''from this day foward...you will now will be known as...antpaw!'' he annouced to the clan. ''your mentor will be...gorseface.'' phoenixpaw could hardly believe his eyes. they are actually allowing him to join the clan?! he purred at the thought as he watched his friend press his nose against his new mentor. ''come toadfoot, we must send out the patrol.'' ''yes flamestar.'' said toadfoot as he stalked his way over towards him. ''hmph! you're still a mouse-brain phoenixpaw.'' phoenixpaw growled at oakpaw. the two cats locked their eyes on eachother for a moment. ''the gathering is almost near!'' muttered hawkpaw in oakpaw's ear. ''yeah! and we'll be the first ones there!'' phoenixpaw tilted his head. ''the gathering?'' ''you don't know? aw, that's really sad!'' ''WHY DON'T YOU TWO FALL OFF A DITCH!'' spat wildpaw. ''now, first things first. i want you to unleash you claws!'' said raventail, lowering his body to a crouch. phoenixpaw sheathed his claws. ''good, now climb up that tree!'' phoenixpaw nodded as he lunged into the air, he outstretched his paws then clinged his claws onto into the tree's bark. ''nicely done, now keep climbing until you've reached a hole!'' he continued. ''okay.'' ''do you see anything?'' asked raventail, narrowing his pale blue eyes. ''yeah!'' ''now...wait for the right moment.'' it was silent. three...two..one....NOW! phoenixpaw dug his claws inside the small hole, he snapped his jaws onto the squrill's small neck, and with a swift crunch the squrill fell to the floor motionless. ''come, lets go take this back to the fresh-kill pile.'' he meowed. phoenixpaw's ears twitched in agreement as he followed his mentor. ''that was quite a short lesson, but i'll teach you some more on how to catch an adder.'' ''sounds like fun!'' ''yes, but it takes time and patience in order for you to succeed one day as a warrior.'' ''so, how was it?'' asked snowfoot, emerging from the nursery. ''it wont be long until the next gathering...this will give us an oppritunity to get the chance to know darkclan a bit better... remember, its a treaty. there shall be no talking about the night of their attack...i shall consault with darkstar in order to settle things for now....until then i want the clan to remain silence about any incidence, is that clear?'' phoenixpaw pushed his way through the cats as he made his way to the front. wildpaw sat beside him, along with antpaw. silverpaw sat beside his father, and yellowpaw sat beside her mother and father. oakpaw glared at phoenixpaw. ''i know, and we have to miss it.'' ''i hate those two mouse-brains!'' hissed wildpaw, her fur bristeling. ''i know, right?'' yellowpaw put in. ''they're nothing but a bunch of jerks!'' snarled silverpaw. ''toadfoot's waiting for us. we best be going now.'' said phoenixpaw, flicking his tail. the gray appentice scrambled to his paws then pelted towards toadfoot. toadfoot raised his chin. ''hello there, phoenixpaw. where are your friends?'' he asked firmly. ''they're coming. don't worry!'' he assured him. toadfoot swiveled his head towards the apprentices' den. ''wait! wait!'' yowled antpaw. ''we're coming!'' ''well it looks like you're all here; phoenixpaw, wildpaw, antpaw, silverpaw, and yellowpaw.'' ''so what's our assignment today?'' purred yellowpaw, her brown eyes gleaming. ''we're going to go do some training. usually you do this with your mentors but flamestar offered for me to give you five something to do, since the other two are going to the gathering. you'll all make great warriors one day. now, follow me!'' he meowed, his muscles rippling as he stalked his way over to the hollow. ''here, now who would like to start?'' he asked, kneading the ground with his paws. ''i will!'' mewed silverpaw. ''oh yes, you're the son of silverclaw and wolfpelt. show me what swiftfoot has showed you so far.'' ''okay!'' silverpaw lowered his body to the ground. his silverpelt glimmering. he narrowed his eyes. then he launched himself into the air, swiping his paw at toadfoot. ''very good. now who else?'' ''me!'' yowled yellowpaw. ''yellowpaw, daughter of raventail and snowfoot. show me what silverclaw has taught you.'' ''with pleasure!'' she meowed, her tail twitching in excitment. yellowpaw flattened her ears. she curled her lip. yellowpaw hissed st him, eyes full of fury. she racker claws at toadfoot's chest. toadfoot only sat there, amused by the young cat's power. ''you're quite strong, yellowpaw.'' he purred. yellowpaw released her grip. ''really? thanks!'' said yellowpaw,in a throaty purr. ''i'll go! i'll go!'' meowed antpaw. ''you sure kittypet?'' ''yes! this'll show you what we so called 'kittypets' are made of!'' that should prove them wrong. thought phoenixpaw.

''i am son of cocoa, and speckles. and you're about to eat your words toadfoot!'' he hissed playfully, lowering himself to a crouch. he stood there, glaring at him for a long moment. antpaw scampered underneath of the deputy's belly, knocking him over. he pinned him down. ''who's the kittypet now?'' he mewed, releasing him. ''i guess i was wrong about you. very good.'' he praised, struggling to his paws. ''wildpaw, how about you?'' he purred. ''sure!'' wildpaw closed her eyes. she took a deep breath. wildpaw grabbed toadfoot by the neck then her her teeth sink into his flesh. phoenixpaw was amazed of the she-cat's strenghth. ''go wildpaw!'' yowled phoenixpaw. ''now its your turn, phoenixpaw.'' he meowed firmly. ''son of sapph-'' he paused. ''what?'' he asked, twitching his whiskers. ''who're my parents?'' ''you are the son of sapphiretail...and...and..brakenface...'' he stammered. phoenixpaw turned his back the other way. ''remember what raventail taught you.'' he muttered to himself. phoenixpaw lunged into the air, outstretching his forepaws. he lashed his claws at toadfoot. toadfoot ducked his head. ''very good. raventail has taught you well.'' he purred. ''thanks!'' ''it seems to be getting dark. time to go to the gathering.'' ''wow! i could see the moon from here!'' said antpaw, his eyes wide. ''we're still in the hollow, antpaw.'' yellowpaw told him. ''i know! but its so bright! i never got to expirience this as a kittypet!'' phoenixpaw's ears pricked. ''really?'' he gasped. ''yeah. the twolegs would always shut the door on me. i never really got to go outside as often because they were always worry about me.'' ''what for?'' meowed silverpaw. ''well, its because of my size.'' said antpaw, shifting his paws uncomfterbly. ''because of your size? thats a stupid reason! you're an a amazing fighter!'' mewed phoenixpaw, sticking his tail straight up. ''but i thank you, phoenixpaw for giving me the freedom! i never felt so alive!'' he purred even harder. phoenixpaw, wildpaw, yellowpaw, and silverpaw all nuzzeled him. ''you're the greatest kittypet the clan has ever had!'' ''meh, its nothing.'' phoenixpaw's eyes glittered.

''you, gorseface, swiftfoot, bluemoon, and raventail will remain here until the gathering is over. is that clear?'' the warriors nodded then bounded towards the apprentices' den. ''we're heading to the gathering now.'' sneered oakpaw. ''see you, and your kittypet friends later!'' hissed hawkpaw, trailing behind oakpaw. oakpaw gave phoenixpaw a final glare then followed the scampered off. ''i'm bored.'' mewed antpaw, with his tail curled around his paws. ''me too.'' said silverpaw. ''there's nothing for us to do around here.'' hissed wildpaw. ''i bet hawkpaw, and oakpaw are having fun right now.'' phoenixpaw whispered, rocking side to side. ''hey guys!'' yowled raventail. ''want to help out with the kits?'' ''kits! i love kits!'' yellowpaw's jaw dropped. ''me too! i love their little helpless bodies!'' purred wildpaw. ''lets go!'' phoenixpaw insisted, nudging wildpaw with his muzzle. raventail poked his head through the gorse tunnel. ''hello!'' he mewed. ''look who we brought.'' phoenixpaw's grew wide in awe. ''its okay little ones.'' purred one of the queens. phoenixpaw's ears twitched. ''you're kits are beautiful.'' he meowed. ''why thank you!'' the kits mewled as they climbed on top of eachother. their pink mouths wide, and eyes closed. ''where's snowfoot?'' asked raventail, tilting his head. ''she's at the gathering with wolfpelt.'' ''oh yeah! i forgot.'' silverpaw sniffed one of the kits. ''they're so tiny!'' purred antpaw. ''like me!'' this is one of the most beautiful things i ever seen. he muttered under his breath. he twisted his around in wildpaw's direction. she gazed at him with glittering green eyes. his tail twitched uneasily but he focused on the she-cat with unblinking eyes.

phoenixpaw padded his way over to the apprentices' den. he twisted his head round to lick his fur. yellowpaw shared tongues with silverpaw, and antpaw shared tongues with bluemoon. ''hi!'' mewed wildpaw, sticking her tail straight up. ''hey!'' wildpaw lapt the top of his head. ''so, when do you think they'll be back?'' she asked, eyes round with disappointment. he knew he couldn't answer that. ''i don't know, to be honest. but i bet its pretty soon'' phoenixpaw replied, trying to sound confident with his words. ''well, i'm tired. you coming phoenixpaw?'' ''yeah, its getting late. i have a feeling that oakpaw is going to say something about this once he gets back. along with his follower.'' he meowed, his shoulders sagging and eyes drooping. phoenixpaw tucked his paws underneath of him. he closed his eyes. the sky grew pale as dawn came to the forest. phoenixpaw stretched his jaws till thorn-sharp teeth shown. ''good morning, wildpaw.'' ''good morning phoenixpaw!'' she moaned, her ears twitched. ''we're going to the borders. silverclaw, and the others are taking us. coming?'' asked antpaw, tilting his small head. ''of course!'' mewed phoenixpaw. ''why wouldn't we?'' oakpaw stalked his way towards phoenixpaw. ''hey phoenixpaw! we went to the gathering!'' sneered the striped apprentice. ''i know!'' he spat, flattening his ears. ''oh wait a minute! you're not old enough, aw that's too bad!'' hawkpaw put in, narrowing his eyes. phoenixpaw curled his lip till a set of sharp teeth shown. ''C'mon phoenixpaw!'' urged wildpaw, nudging his side with her head. ''that's right, keep walking half-breed!'' hissed oakpaw before bloodstorm, and mousefang padded over to them. ''is everybody ready?'' asked silverclaw, raising his chin. ''they'll come.'' said deadfoot.

''good, now that everyone is here our patrol is ready.'' toadfoot looked down to phoenixpaw. ''are you ready, young warrior?'' he asked, with a throaty purr. phoenixpaw's eyes gleamed then nodded. ''yes, toadstar!'' he yowled. ''oops. i mean, yes toafoot.'' he dipped his head. ''good luck, may starclan light your way.'' mewed toadfoot then backed away. phoenixpaw padded his way over to raventail. ''lets see if you can smell darkclan,'' the black warrior began. ''their scent is very well...'' ''i know. they reak!'' phoenixpaw meowed. ''well, i wouldn't say that infront of them if i were you. now, sniff!'' phoenixpaw lifted his muzzle into the cool crisp air. for he knew that leaf-bare was coming. he sniffed. wildpaw stood beside him. he sniffed again. ''its darkclan!'' he gasped. ''how fresh is it phoenixpaw?'' he asked, with the flick of his tail. ''hang on!'' meowed phoenixpaw. ''its pretty fresh, sorta faded but fresh.'' ''we must be getting close.'' said silverclaw, his teal eyes burning. ''if darkclan sees us we'll be ready. they've already attacked us once, we can't risk loosing another warrior...'' the massive tabby sagged his shoulders. ''i know...'' whispered raventail. ''i've lost a good friend, and it was my fault he died...along with his mate...'' ''now, now. we both know that's not true!'' phoenixpaw pricked his ears. what? what are they talking about? loosing warriors to darkclan? i don't understand! his mind was clouded with thoughts. ''but it is! i should'of been there to help him when gorseclaw attacked!'' he snapped. silverclaw remained calm. ''come on, lets keep moving.'' said the silver warrior softly. ''what were they talking about?'' muttered wildpaw, in phoenixpaw's ear. his whiskers tail twitched a little. ''i'm not sure, but it was something about gorseclaw.'' ''well, we'll figure it out somehow.'' she assured him. he gulped. her voice was so calm, so relaxed. ''you're right, wildpaw. say, where's antpaw?'' ''i'm over here!'' meowed the small brown apprentice, his eyes shining. ''is everything okay?'' he asked. ''yeah, we're fine. thanks.''

''very good, phoenixpaw.'' mewed raventail, cranning his head over his shoulder as the fireclan cats padded their way over near the braken. ''so, what do we do now?'' asked phoenixpaw, tilting his head to the side. bluemoon poked her head through. she sniffed the air. she screwed her face at the fowl scent of the darkclan cats. phoenixpaw's ears pricked when he saw a slender black cat with a narrow head, and snake like structure. ''adderclaw!'' he gasped, trying to lower his voice. wildpaw let out a silent hiss. ''alright.'' growled deadfoot. ''has everyone caught their prey?'' ''everyone except bonepaw!'' hissed adderclaw, narrowing his amber eyes to slits. ''bonepaw? must be their new apprentice.'' muttered silverpaw into his father's silver ear. ''indeed.'' whispered silverclaw, his whiskers twitching uncomfterbly. phoenixpaw lowered himself to a hunting crouch. ''what're you doing?'' asked wildpaw, fluffing out her black and brown pelt. ''i asked raventail if i could get a closer look. he agreed as long as we stay hidden.'' ''but what about our scent?'' ''see any mud or foxdung nearby?'' he hissed. ''only mud.'' ''good! that should do it! now hurry!'' meowed phoenixpaw, as the two apprentices slowly crept their way over to a rock. ''if we get in trouble, this'll be your fault!'' she snarled. ''foxdung! don't worry, we wont be seen. i promise.'' wildpaw's green eyes were clouded with anxiety. surely she trusts him. ''now once we return to the camp, darkstar will use one of us as a spy, so we can overthrow fireclan, and their halfbreeds and kittypets!'' mewed deadfoot. ''and we shall take over the forest!'' sneered viperfang, her eyes round with amusement. adderclaw gazed at the she-cat. he nodded. ''no one will stand in our way!''

''do you smell that?'' growled viperfang, baring her teeth. ''what?'' hissed deadfoot. ''i'll take a look...'' adderclaw insisted, stalking his way over towards the rock. ''C'mon wildpaw!'' he urged her, pulling her by the scruff of her neck. ''hey! ow!'' ''shhh!'' adderclaw scanned the area with hard eyes. he grunted then turned away. ''eh, must be some fox. now lets go back to camp.'' said adderclaw. phoenixpaw released wildpaw from his grip. ''did ya really have to do that?'' ''it was the only way for us to be unseen! besides, they could'of caught our scent.'' wildpaw opened her mouth to protest, but didn't say anything.''oh...alright. but that was a mouse-brained idea!'' she snorted. ''this is dangerous wildpaw! if darkstar trys to take over the whole forest we're doomed!'' phoenixpaw caught a small brown shape in the corner of his eye. a few other wariors and apprentices followed him. ''antpaw! yellowpaw! silverpaw!'' he purred. the massive silver tabby sat beside raventail. ''anything?'' ''yes. we overheard a couple of- oh...first lets go back to camp first. then i'll explain everything, i promise.'' ''our patrol isn't done yet. we still have a while. lets go hunt first. then once our patrolling is over, you can report this to flamestar.'' ''yes, silverclaw.'' he meowed. ''good, hopefully we wont catch any of them crossing into our territory.'' hissed silverpaw. ''yeah!'' said yellowpaw. ''but remember, phoenixpaw. this isn't our buisness. but, it is a good thing that you did that. fireclan wont be easily defeated by those cowards!'' phoenixpaw nodded. ''yes, i understand.'' ''i let him...silverclaw.'' raventail admitted. ''raventail?'' ''i know...i-i'm so sorry...'' ''there's no need.''

''lets go...'' flamestar waited for the dawn patrol to return. phoenixpaw carryed a vole with his thorn-sharp teeth. wildpaw sat beside him, along with antpaw, yellowpaw, and silverpaw. oakpaw stalked his way over to the fresh-kill pile. it seemed smaller then he remembered. he glanced over his shoulder to see phoenixpaw. the striped warrior narrowed his eyes. phoenixpaw dropped his vole, then trotted towards the medicine cats den. ''good morning, featherwhisker!'' he meowed, sticking his tail straight up. ''oh! good morning. did you bring anyting?'' phoenixpaw gasped. ''be right back!'' a few moments later, he returned with a rabbit. ''thank you.'' purred featherwhisker. ''so, how are things?'' asked phoenixpaw. ''leafbare is coming...'' ''and?''

''plus, for some weird reason, oakpaw and hawkpaw keep calling me a 'half-breed''' ''starclan forbids me to tell you...'' said featherwhisker. ''i'm sorry.'' ''its not your fault!'' he assured him. ''well, i need to treat bloodstorm's wound. a badger got his leg.'' ''oh, okay.'' phoenixpaw dipped his head then scampered off. ''raventail!'' he yowled, ''raventail!'' ''yes?'' mewed raventail. ''what is it?'' ''is it true that you're my father?'' raventail didn't reply. ''well...are you? i need to know!'' ''you're going to have to tell him the truth.'' wolfpelt murmured. ''i know, i know. but i'm not quite sure how he's going to take it...'' ''he'll still love you.'' she purred. ''but you're once an iceclan warrior!'' ''but i chose to live in fireclan.'' she hissed. ''i can't. its just too soon...and he wont love me...'' antpaw bit wildpaw's ear. ''got'cha! see! kittypets can be warriors! you're just afraid to admit it.'' he sneered. ''am not!'' phoenixpaw sat on top of a nearby rock. his paws tucked underneath of his tail. ''you really want to be leader, don't you?'' mewed silverpaw. ''as expected.'' yellowpaw laughed. ''well, its a huge responsibility...but raventail as been acting kinda...odd lately.'' ''oh, what'd you suppose it is then?'' blinked the silver tabby. ''i don't know...''

the night grew cold. he knew leaf-bare was coming. when phoenixpaw went up to the fresh-kill pile to select a mouse, oakpaw shouldered him away then snatched it for himself. the tabby apprentice glared at him. ''halfbreed...'' he hissed then padded over to hawkpaw. ''its no wonder why he's like mousefang!'' he growled then selected a rabbit. antpaw, and wildpaw were already in their nests. phoenixpaw watched as her flank rose. antpaw rolled to his belly, unaware of the gray apprentice. ''wake up wildpaw!'' he mewed, shaking her with his forepaws. ''what...?'' she moaned. ''i brought you something.'' ''oh phoenixpaw! did you really?'' she purred. ''i see that the others are still asleep....'' he sighed, glancing at the silver, and gold pelts of silverpaw and yellowpaw. ''they love eachother, there's no doubt.'' said phoenixpaw slowly. ''so, what's bothering you?'' ''everything!'' ''why...?'' her voice softened, ''first of all, i'm not even sure if raventail, and snowfoot are my real parents. secondly, i'm being called a halfbreed, and thridly, i have enemies within my own clan...'' he turned to wildpaw, his eyes clouded. ''and i...well...'' ''yes?'' ''oh, nevermind...'' ''right. i understand...'' phoenixpaw layed his head over his paws. ''goodnight.'' ''goodnight.'' she echoed, slowly closing her eyes. ''how're we going to rid with flamestar?'' hissed gorseclaw, narrowing his eyes. ''easy. we'll take every single one of his lives.'' laughed darkstar. ''but what about the halfbreed? should we kill him too?'' asked dead-eye, flicking his gray tail. ''actually, he could be very useful to the clan.'' continued the dark leader. gorseclaw growled. ''i think we should kill him!'' adderclaw's ears pricked as he slowly crept closer to the leaders' den. ''he has the stengh of fireclan, but i know he has the power of darkclan.'' ''power?'' ''yes, he has our ambitions. he's just as powerful as the rest of us. we can take down a whole clan!'' adderclaw gasped. ''and his brother?'' darkstar chuckled. ''i have an idea.''

WM!! Yes, Toadfoot does die, he gets killed by DarkClan. He went out alone and was found by a patrol near the DarkClan border, his throat slit and his ribs smashed.

phoenixpaw blinked as the sun's rays peered through the cave walls. he stretched his legs out then woke the apprentices. antpaw shook the moss out of his fur then scampered behind them. toadfoot sat at the entrance. ''good morning.'' mewed the dark deputy. ''quite a lovely morning isn't it?'' ''you seem happy today.'' that was raventail. ''so what made you in such a good mood?'' ''the kits are growing well, considering its leaf-fall. but, anyways, come take a look for yourselves.'' phoenixpaw, along with antpaw raced over to the nursery. antpaw layed his eyes on a black, and brown kit with bright blue eyes. ''what's her name?'' asked antpaw, touching noses with the kit. ''her name, is spiderkit.'' ''spiderkit.'' he echoed. ''what a beautiful kit she is...'' phoenixpaw's ears twitched in agreement. ''so, why are you here you two?'' meowed the queen. ''toadfoot gave us the news about your kits.'' said phoenixpaw. ''oh! i see. well, you two better get going. its time for your solo lesson.'' antpaw eyes widen. ''lets go!'' antpaw took one final glance at the kit, then followed phoenixpaw across the clearing. ''today, will be your first solo lesson.'' announced the massive silver warrior. ''each of you will be seperate in each part of the forest. silverpaw will hunt at snake rocks, yellowpaw will hunt at tallpines, antpaw will hunt near twolegs place, wildpaw will hunt near at fourtrees, and phoenixpaw will hunt near the river. any questions?'' bloodstorm padded over near mousefang. ''when is flamestar going to make them warriors?'' ''eh, they're still young, mousefang.'' the red warrior pointed out. ''hmph. if i were leader i would'of made oakpaw, and hawkpaw warriors.'' ''but you weren't chosen!'' he sneered. ''i know that!'' spat mousefang.

phoenixpaw moved in slowly as he noticed a squirell scampering across the forest floor. that's it...just a little closer... the gray apprentice crushed the little creature with one paw. he scanned the area to make sure no patrols were near by. ''odd.'' he bearied his prey, then padded on. just beind him was his mentor, raventail. the sleek black warrior peered through the thick blades of ferns, as he followed his apprentice. ''so far, so good.'' he whispered. ''though i need tomake sure that he doesn't go to far into the iceclan camp.'' phoenixpaw looked up at the pale sky. he grunted then lowered himself flat against the hard eath. with every paw step, the sound of leaves being crusged made it harder for him to catch prey. ''you know, why don't i try catching a fish.'' he muttered then scrambled to his paws. this is such a stupid idea, but its for the clan... he thought as he dipped his muzzle into the river. he took a step back. ''that's cold!'' he yowled. then he remembered that he was near the border of iceclan. ''i forgot!'' he lowered his voice. ''i need to be careful or-'' phoenixpaw's eyes widen as a small white shape stalked its way over towards the river. its eyes were yellow, and its pupils were red. this must be one of the iceclan cats... he breathed in its cold, fishy scent. it is! i'm too close to the border! he took a few steps back. ''hey!'' mewed the small white apprentice from the other side of the river. ''hi...'' he stammered. ''what are you doing so close near iceclan?'' he purred sarcasticly. ''i was just out...hunting...its my first solo lesson.'' he explained. ''no kidding, i'm going to be a medicine cat!'' ''really?'' mewed phoenixpaw. ''that's great!'' ''i'm snowpaw. its a pleasure to meet you.'' said snowpaw, dipping his head. ''i better get back, i don't wanna get caught by icestar!'' ''yeah, you're right.'' the white appentice quickly swam through the water with a silvery fish in his jaws. he dropped it at phoenixpaw's paws. ''here. oh! i gotta go, see ya!'' meowed snowpaw as he swam back to his territory then shook the water off of his pelt.

by the time phoenixpaw reached the camp, his jaws were full of prey. he dropped it on top of pile. ''that should be enough. though i'll take the fish.'' ''well done, all of you.'' said flamestar. ''the next gathering is just a few more moons away. as of today, your mentors said that you've all done a fine job. you're all going!'' purred the leader, his eyes glmmering like raging flames. phoenixpaw's jaw dropped, leaving the fish flopping on the ground. antpaw's fur bristled as oakpaw, and hawkpaw glared at them in the shadows. ''so what if they get to go? they're not special anyways.'' growled hawkpaw, twisting his head to lick his fur. ''yeah, especially that stupid halfbreed, and his kittypet friend!'' hissed oakpaw, his eyes blazing with anger, and pure hatred. ''when will be getting our warrior names, flamestar?'' asked wildpaw. ''you're still too young, but you're all growing so fast.'' said the young leader as he padded over next to his deputy, toadfoot. ''its time that you've all rest. first bring some to the elders.'' he ordered with the flick of his tail. ''yes, flamestar.'' said the apprentices as they all carryed their scraps over to the elders' den. phoenixpaw enjoyed the strong taste of fish. it seemed a bit better then mouse. ''great starclan!'' gasped wildpaw as she sat next to him. ''where'd you get tht fish?'' phoenixpaw was searching for the right words. ''um...silverclaw sent me to hunt at the river....'' ''i can see that, i mean, did you catch it?'' starclan, help me! he thought, closing his eyes. ''promise me that you wont tell?'' he asked, raising his head. ''of course, phoenixpaw. what is it?'' ''i...i...oh....'' he struggled to get the words out. ''an iceclan apprentice gave it to me! promise me that you wont tell?!'' ''i promise.'' phoenixpaw sighed in relief. ''thank you! you're the only cat that i can trust with anything!'' wildpaw purred.
