His ranged isn't supposed to be the actual attack - you have to throw the blades onto the ground then kick them with the tail or activate the cyclone. He racks up DPS easily with either path, since you can sit on a corner and throw the shards or wait for something big to get close, throw the blades, activate the tornado and make them all get sucked in.

^It makes sense to combine those attacks, since the blades to the ground move by it's own had a ridicously low reach. May have to try that in imaginator's arena.
