It still makes no logical sense to release a game that allows you to trap 46 villains and then they call the idea quits. I'd seriously question my loyalty to the Skylanders brand if they didn't keep the trapping aspect in each new game. It doesn't make sense to be like, "Oh, hey we're going to allow you to trap 46 villains and that's it. Next game."
They need to allow for the trapping of new enemies per game, while introducing the new game's style of play, not begin and end at 46.
Then the game is going to be a freaking mess, if ALL if the gimmicks tag along. Up to now it was ok since the TOY/skylander was the gimmick. This is however very different to me. And I suggest it is so for a very specific reason---to make future non-support a non-issue.
Also, given the option of giving me something new vs giving me everything from all previous games + something marginal I'd go for the former.
Let's face it: the game is a thin disguise to sell the toys. I think they are perfectly fine finding a new way to have us buy new plastic on every game.
Btw, despite you not knowing about it, they are in fact "moving on" from every gimmick in terms of the unique GAME content. Luckily up to now the character has moved forward. Keeping this gimmick provides story inconsistencies in the future b/c one would assume these villains were captured and returned to prison---not forever tormented by a skylander and his traptanium trap.
