It's a shame there over 100 characters but we can't battle with them. What's the point in leveling up if you can't show it off. That's crazy. A game like this will get very stale when story mode is completed. It's funny to because I think in a minis interview, TFB said, "We're really trying to please the fans in this game." Haha funny joke. Getting rid of battle mode is really what the fans wanted!!!

G or H, not sure yet.
Pitting the kids against each other for a prize (usually a new figure) was 90% of my enjoyment with the game. Story mode just isn't complex enough, and co-op is soooooo not fun. To me, Skylanders is a kids game, and the part that I interacted with the kids through is gone. The only thing making it hard to walk away is the money and effort I've already spent building my collection. |

A: I am sad that PVP is gone.. Me and my friends would always do it and have skylander battles but not anymore. If there is a Skylanders 5 they better bring back PVP!

Don't put words in people's mouths. This thread is proof not everyone even liked it to begin with. If you want the devs not listening to fans, have SF's distribution of speed stats and nerfing of half the old chars.

Its possible that the people on this forum are not necessarily an accurate representation of the entire skylanders player base. Skylanders is (for the most part) a kids game. I don't know many kids who have the patience or motivation to participate on forums. That may just be the subset of children that I know. Furthermore, the kids in my family (8 of them in total) are devastated that our tournaments can't happen anymore (or at least not in TT with the newlanders). I guess what I'm trying to say is; just because this subset of gamers doesn't mind, it doesn't mean its not possible that the majority of players will be unhappy or turned off by a lack of PVP. My guess is that the silent majority will be displeased. |

The same that will get over it, reason why it's a silent majority. They're still buying the toys as much as they used to because the story mode is what appeals to the kids, they'll only find out about the lack of PVP after the main game is over. Saying that 'it's what the fans want' is making assumptions; and if the forum fandom(the one that shows up, unless there's some huge tumblr/reddit fandom that happens to be bigger than this one) doesn't mind it enough to skip the game, then it's a wrong assumption as far as we know.

Reddit has a pitiful skylanders section and tumblr is more active with comics from what I have seen. Neither come close to DarkS in size.

The silent majority votes with their dollars, and that is the most important vote, not a post on a forum or social media. As an example, I believe that the silent majority was the impetus behind TFB scaling back on reposes. If you look at store shelves, it appeared that people just weren't buying them. The interesting party is, other than Ghost Roaster's posts, most of the post I've seen here are bemoaning the lower amount of reposes. I agree that most parents and kids will not know that they can't fight their friends anymore, and buy the game. But, a child's attention span is limited, and I think the functionality of PVP was a big part of what kept kids interested in the game and collecting, particularly after the kid has already flipped the game. Lets face it, the levels are not complex enough to remain interesting just because you are playing them with a different character. I agree, that we don't have enough information to say MOST people want PVP, but I also don't think the forum's population is an accurate indicator that says most consumers don't care. My personal belief is that the decision will hurt their sales long term. Particularly when wave 3 and 4 are released. I think that time would be an interesting time to revisit this topic. |

The levels are complex enough for me to enjoy it whenever I get a new character e_e'
I'd only be revisiting this if the lack of PVP actually affected much. Swap Force seemingly had no problems before release(I had a problem with the character designs and that was it, even), but apparently the new shiny graphics didn't make the game sell more than the previous two. Can't really guess the majority's reaction based on people nearby, otherwise companies would make popular games just by following the same right steps.

This could also be a way of subtly phasing out older characters. Do we have any info on how the old characters scale ability-point wise (in game)? With the stats jumping yet again, old characters might end up just becoming under-powered, driving people to new figures (hence fewer reposes). Sure they could still function in the story, but the weakness would be glaring in PvP.
I obviously don't have insight into their actual development, but given that they had a longer 2-year cycle and lots of existing functionality, adding PvP seems as much of a no-brainer as keeping arena mode. It seems hard to believe it would be a development time issue. I smell something more strategic.

@ Bifrost - You are lucky, I wish new characters made the levels fresh for me. You are right, there is no way to guess the majority reaction, especially since kids tastes change so rapidly. Even if sales do drop, I don't know if we could ever really qualify PVP as the reason why.
@Jbkoak - That is an interesting point, I hope that isn't the case. How great would it be if the "more strategic" thing was a stand alone fighting game?.... One can dream right. |

Skytekken Tournament. Make it happen Acti.
(no seriously a fighting game spinoff would be genious. But I think the Smash format would be easier for the kids than the usual fighting games - I know I'm horrible at managing combos and the like even with two copies of Skullgirls to play and practice every once in a while, imagine a kid who would never grasp light, mid and heavy attacks to begin with.)

A. No, I will buy as much as before.
See, my spending money on rather I buy it or not is not based on rather PvP is available or not. I buy most of my games keeping in mind I'll be playing them by myself for the majority of the time. (due to low amount of game players in my family). However, I extremely hate the fact that PvP is removed. Honestly it was the biggest thing me and my nephew did when playing skylanders. I mean honestly in most cases I have to twist his arm just to do Co-Op with me VIA Story-mode. Granted there's still Arena modes as it sounds but still, we only really played through thoses once (as in one per level) before it really just gets boring. And honestly me and my nephew would have a blast facing each other (granted I won most of the time but we both still had fun ) in fact, my favorite time with playing skylanders with my nephew is when we were playing ring out. I was playing as Hex... and he was playing as... eh forget who. (but not important.) We were in that japanese/chinese looking arena. I was standing on one platform and there was a gap between the two platforms. My nephew walks on the one and jumps towards me (to attack me obviously) I put up a bone wall and the jump fails ashe hits the bone wall and just falls.. RING OUT!! is was hilarious. I did it like 2 more times I think. But the first one was awesome. But still I mean me and him were allready disappointed that there were so few arena's in PvP... and the old battle packs and adventure packs didn't unlock anything there (which I still think they should of atleast done that.) Alas, I REALLY hope it returns in Skylanders 5.... otherwise me and my nephew won't have as much fun playing the game any more :'(

I'm buying less, but PvP is just one of many reasons. If people aren't playing PvP it's because it needs to be done better, and with more capabilities (online). Battling a human opponent is infinitely more fun than a CPU.

Well, it's very clear, G. I already got all the figures I need to enjoy the new game (no care for new elemental zones).
If they want to give us the minimal, so we also can buy the minimum. I still want the new game, but i see it more like an addon to the the old games. No PVP means the begining of the end for me.

A) For me and my family, we never liked the PvP part anyway and it was kinda annoying that it was required to complete all the quests. We will be glad its out, my girls hated that part of the game.

Created a new one. I.
I. I will only get the game and figures, no variants. That's me. I'm getting my refund on the dark edition today. 115 more $ to buy disney infinity cuz Disney understood that we need online cuz it's awesome to play with friends. Playing a game alone is soo bad for me. Don't wanna start a fight here and I respect your choice. If you like Skylanders more than DI, I'll don't kill you.

C!!
Now that the neighborhood kids can't line up to play "let's destroy Gran Pappy Plordg at Skylanders Arena," there's no chance of me hurlin' the flimmy-flammy figures out tha window in disgust! I don't have to be so cautious anymore at the K-mart with my purchases! Off my lawn, ya darn miscreants and ne'er do wells!! Leave them garden gnomes be, I tells ya!! And stop asking me that; my garden gnomes don't have an element. Psh. Ruffians. In my day, we trudged up hill both ways barefoot in the snow carryin Gramma Gooselip piggyback fer our copy of Whirlwind.

That's sort of a let down PvP was actually really fun mainly because the story mode is a bit of a bore even if it's toned down for the younger audience.
