What happened with neopets now?

Nothing. That's the problem. We didn't have a single significant event this year(aside from Altador Cup which is more or less automated anyway), or important update, nothing. And they keep shoveling out bad art, or changing rules because they visibly don't know what the older staff did, and everything else is silence. Most Neopets-related stuff I cared about this year was the Old TNT AMA on reddit, but it's obvious they're moving on and don't have much else to say from now on.

I was seriously hoping the site would shut down with a warning and a goodbye instead of slowly wasting away like this - content keeps it alive, and little to no content is making the already dwindling userbase just give up in bigger and bigger numbers. The tumblr tag is just some people's side projects,the subreddit barely gets any conversation... So much for the site that pretty much set my life's choices in career, tastes, everything e_e Course, I now have more references and communities to be part of, but at that start where my english was bad, I wasn't sure of what to do with my life, bullying was getting bad? Neopets, for sure.

I agree. "Sexual abuser" is a bit of a heavy term for them though. They were a horny 15 year old who got high on their power and follower count. Hopefully they learn a lesson from all of this.
Though to be honest I'm glad they'll be out of the limelight, because they were an annoying little ****. Really kind of the poster child for quirky teenage Tumblr users.
