Sorry, didn't get to write yesterday. I'm in school right now so I'll do it tomorrow.

Chapter 41.

Spyro was woken up by a strangely vivid dream. He didn't remember what it was all about, but had had a weird feeling about it. And so far, his feelings had never failed his trust.

He yawned, and got up from the ground, stratching his back. Then he was instantly smacked across his head by something heavy and metally.
Spyro quickly looked around and saw Mirra hiding in the bushes, he had hit Spyro with the hilt of his two-handed sword, and was now waving at him to stay silent. Spyro looked around to make sure everything seemed fine, and then leaped into the bushes with Mirra.

"What-" Spyro managed to say before Mirra shut his mouth.

"Ape bandits. They're near.. Just stay quiet, I laready took care of the campsite." Mirra whispered.

Spyro looked around himself again. He hadn't noticed how well the campsite was now camoflaged with branches and grass. He hadn't noticed a clue about any apes though.

"Are you sure, I can't sense anything.." Spyro whispered.

"I can smell them." Mirra whspered back to him.

And sure enough, Soon, he saw a small band of ape raiders walking past their campsite, sniffing the air.

"There's only four of them. I can take them on, you just stay hidden, ok?.." Mirra whispered

Spyro, nodded. He would've wanted to fight the apes, but Mirra seemed confident in himself, and Spyro wanted to see how good he was with his sword. So he just laid low, while Mirra sneaked out, closing in on the apes.

Suddenly, the large, tattooed leader-ape turned around like he had heard a twig snap. Mirra was now standing right in front of the apes, about a dozen feet away.

He stepped forward, and grasped his sword with a renewed purpose. The ape was wielding a vicious-looking hafted blade. He too, took a step forward.

The ape, and Mirra looked at each other for a second, then Spyro saw Mirra's face. He looked surprised..

"Balak?.." He heard Mirra say, with a confused tone.

"Mirra?.." The ape-leader responded.

"Balak! It's damn good to see you old friend!" Mirra shouted, and sheathed his sword.

The ape dropped his weapon too, and the two shook hands with a hearty laugh.

Spyro was confused. He didn't know whether to stay hidden, or ask Mirra what was going on.

"I almost gave my men a signal to shoot you!" The leader-ape, Mirra had called by the name Balak, said.

"And I almost charged you, I though you were raiders!" Mirra laughed.

"It's been a long time. Over the last decade the only way to survive among your own kin was to pretend to be one." Balak said.

"Speaking of that, what are you doing here?.." Mirra asked.

"We were on our way to your village to find you. Theba has been worried." Balak explained, Spyro had no Idea who "Theba" was.
"And why are you here running around by yourself?!" Balak asked Mirra.

"Oh, I'm not alone. Come out Spyro, it's safe!" Mirra shouted.

With a little hesitation, Spyro took a step out of the bushed, so that the apes could see him..

"Oh, a purple dragon.. Looks like you've found even more dangerous company while I've been taking care of your businesses." Balak said, and nodded at Spyro, he didn't seem agressive. Strangely enough, he didn't even seem surprised.

"Spyro and I left the valley a day ago. We're on our way to Warfang." Mirra said.

"Hah, let me come with you! My business with you can wait for awhile. It'll be like it was before!" Balak shouted suddenly.

"Fine, you can come." Mirra laughed, and turned to Spyro, "Spyro, I'd like you too meet my friend Balak. Remember when I told you about my previous compaions last evening? He was one of them."

"It's a honor to meet you." Spyro said. He had never said that to an ape before.

"Hah! I like dragons that don't always find themselves above others! I am Balak, a friend of Mirra. I'm honoured to meet you too." Balak said.

Spyro didn't know what to think. But he had a good feeling about Balak.

I'll write more sometime in the weekend.

Oh, sorry. I guess I just got a little lost with this again. I'll write more tomorrow.

Yep. Trying to come up with something right now.

*bangs head to wall*

I just realized my memory is not what it used to be. Trying to write more now.

I got something done already. I'll come here later tomorrow and finish it up.

Edit: Nope, didn't seem to get finished yet.

Anyway, I'm running a fever and I'm dead tired. Gotta get some sleep and then look over this again.

Ahh, vacation has started. Now I'll have some more time to think about this story again. I'm sure you'll see more soon.

Yeah, I'm writing ideas on paper right now. I might post a chapter this evening.

Why can't I hold all these chapters?

Now that all the celebrations and holiday hazzle is over, I think I'll be writing more again. I'll certainly add a chapter, if not two, later today.

Chapter 42.

Spyro jogged happily alongside Mirra, the road to Warfang had been full of new experiences as he had never gone the way on foot. Most of the landscape was covered with forests, so he couldn't have even seen the road before as he had always flown overneath.

Spyro was also curious about the new companion that had joined their party. Balak seemed quite calm for an old, big ape that he was. Spyro had a feeling that he had seen a lot of danger and adventures in his days. Still, he didn't quite trust his own appraisal of experience, and decided to try to get more info from Mirra.

"Hey, Mirra." Spyro started, unsure of what to ask.

"Hm?.." Mirra replied quickly.

"About Balak.." Spyro continued carefully.

"You can trust him, if this is about that." Mirra said before Spyro could think of what to say.

"No, it's not that. Not exactly." Spyro said.

"Then what?" Mirra asked.

"You said you knew Balak. I just want to learn more about him." Spyro said.

"All right." Mirra looked the other way, "So you don't trust him?"

"Uh.. That's the thing, I don't know." Spyro said.

He was startled by a loud grunt.

"I can hear you, little one." Balak said with a low, grumbling voice, "I assure you, I mean you no harm."

Spyro suddenly felt a tingle of guilt, but he decided it was best not to dwell in it.

"I'm sorry. I know I can trust you, I just don't know much about you, that's all." Spyro said.

"I'll tell you anything you want to know once we get to Warfang." Balak said. He didn't feel like talking much.

"Ok.." Spyro said and looked to Mirra. Who noticed this immediately.

"He's just tired, the old man that he is." Mirra laughed a bit, "Don't let him intimidate you."

"I can hear you too, cat." Balak said, "Last time I checked, it was you who got tired and ran away, while I stayed to take care of your wife and your son!.. Just like I promised I would."

They all staid quiet for a moment. Spyro noticed a sudden change in everybody's mood.
He was about to ask Mirra about what Balak had said, but Mirra answered him first.

"Aye, and for that I'm grateful.. Old friend.." He sighed quietly, staring forward with empty eyes. He wasn't angry, but his voice was filled with a sad tone of longing..

After that, nobody dared to say a thing.

In a few hours, Spyro could already see the high towers of Warfang rising up on the horizon. It wouldn't be long anymore. He forgot compeletely about what Balak had said, and focused on his own mission.

His scar was still aching a bit, and he had thought about what to say to Cynder when he would meet her.
He almost missed her..


I'll post more later. It's pretty late here, and I haven't finished the next chapter yet.

Thank you. The first one had a lot of flaws in it's storyline as I just came up with some content as I went. I still have some trouble finding the will to write more.

Damn, I just realized I was a fresh green Sparx when I first started writing.

Yeah, I write slowly. I've always got ideas, but I just can't be arsed to write them down.

Also, looking back a few chapters, this story has it's own little flaws too.

Hm, you did read The Second Beginning too, did you not?

Alright, just don't laugh. I was 15 when I started with the first part.

Must have been pretty interesting then.

I mean, with all the characters ripped from kid's shows, you can't get a boring story.

I know what you mean. I sometimes do same stuff in my own head with different characters.

Sure, I'll take a look at it. It's hard to find any really interesting fictions on a Spyro site anyway.

Well, time to get writing I suppose. I'm still going to finish this sorry story.
