The black and white wolf growled.
"Your friend is smashing him. I'm Kirito. I will tell you now that my mate will attack you..." he doesn't finish as a white wolf crashes into Scott, protecting her mate, Kirito.

The lead wolf barked a retreat as he saw both Asuna and Kirito. The group retreated.

Scott was thrown a few feet away, landing by Matilda. He got up and asked her, "Are you okay?" Lila struggled to her feet, but stayed a respectful distance away from the others.

Matilda struggles to her feet and nods.
"Yeah, I'm okay."

Kirito shakes his head.
"Asuna, these three are okay. Calm down. They mistook me for one of those ambush wolves."

The white wolf nods in understanding.
"My apologies. Are you three okay?"

Lila nodded and walked over to stand by her friends. Scott said, "It's okay, we're fine." "Do you know why those wolves attacked us?"

Kirito shakes his head.
"They think they own this place."

Asuna smiles.
"I recognize you, white wolf. Matilda, right? Kirito tells me much about you."

Matilda looks surprised.

Kargolo had flown away from the fight, and, now that the group had retreated, he landed back with his friends. He bends down, in a crouch, and starts walking towards Kirito and Asuna, stalking them slowly from the shrubbery.

Kirito stands closest to Kargolo, and is oblivious to him stalking him as he and Asuna chat with Scott, Lila, and Matilda.

"Wait a minute." Scott said. "You guys know Matilda?" Lila looked puzzled for a moment, then realized she didn't see Kargolo anywhere.

Kirito smiled.
"Did Delgato ever tell you? He's my brother. I'm supposed to know his cousins. I always tell my mate Asuna about my cousins."

Scott nodded and said, "I'm Scott, and this is my friend Lila. "You guys already know Matilda."

Kargolo listened for a moment. He leapt onto Kirito. "Whadda you know 'bout Delgato?"

"Kargolo, get off of him." Lila said. "Delgato's his brother."

Kargolo listened for a moment. He leapt onto Kirito. "Whadda you know 'bout Delgato?"

Kirito got up after shoving Kargolo off him. He shook out his pelt.

The white wolf smiled.
"It's nice to meet you all. I'm Asuna, and this is my mate, Kirito."

Scott turned to Matilda. "What did we find them for again?" He asked.

Matilda shook her head.
"We weren't searching for them. The pack that ambushed us is afraid of those two. I told you about them so you knew if they came and protected us."

Kirito laughed.
"They'll come back for sure if we aren't with you."

"I have no doubt that they will." Lila said. "We're sitting ducks out here."

Asuna laughed and nodded.
"Follow me. Kirito and I stay in a large cave. You can stay there for now too."

"Thank you." Scott said. "We appreciate it."

Asuna and Kirito nod and take the lead, leading the group to a huge cave.

Scott and Lila walked into the cave slowly, taking in their surroundings. Lila went over to a corner and laid down, resting her head on her paws.

Asuna pads over to Lila and sits down beside her.
"Tired?"

Kirito looks at Scott.
"What brings you three here?"

"A little bit." Lila admitted.

"We're out traveling." Scott said. "It was Matilda's idea, and now we're going wherever we want to, I guess."

Asuna smiled.
"I bet. Are you injured at all?"

Kirito nodded.
"I see. Dragon Springs is a good place to check out."

"I wasn't able to walk after a fight with some dogs that were after Scott, but Alyx made me a splint." Lila said, gesturing to her hind leg. "But other than that, I don't really have any injuries."

"We'll have to go there sometime." Scott said.

Asuna nodded and smiled.
"I hear Alyx is a very kind wolf. I bet I will meet her sometime."

Kirito nodded and smiled.
"A beautiful place to visit. I went there with Asuna. In fact, I met her there."

Lila nodded. "Yes, she was a great friend, and I have no doubt that you'll meet her someday."

"I bet we'll go there someday." Scott said, smiling.

Asuna smiled and nodded.

Kirito nodded and smiled.
"Maybe we can show you guys where it is."

Kargolo just stood outside the cave. The wolf, Kirito, hadn't answered him. He snorted.

Kirito looks at Kargolo.
"You wanted to know what I knew about Delgato, right? He's my brother."

"That sounds like a good idea." Scott said.

Asuna smiles.
"Is he rambling about Dragon Springs again?"

"Yes." Scott said. "He is, but the place sounds interesting."

Kargolo rolls his head to Kirito.
"That's nice. Wai-You're Delgato's brother?" He said, shocked.

Asuna laughed.
"It is a nice place."

Kirito laughed.
"We don't look alike to much, but we're brothers."

"Delgato never really mentioned you on our travels." Scott said.

Kargolo nods slowly. He plucked one of his large meaty morsels hiding in his beak and dropped it in front of Kirito.
"A token of my sorriness." The bird said.

Lila had fallen asleep, but Scott still looked around, not sure of what to think. He looked outside at the open savannah and went to sit outside the cave.

Kirito thanks Kargolo and walks to sit by Scott.
"I haven't seen Delgato for awhile. How is he?"

Matilda sleeps far away from everyone, her head rested on her paws in loneliness.

Asuna sleeps next to Lila, her snow white fur seeming to glow in the moonlight.

"He's okay." Scott said. "He got a little scratched up, but I think he's doing better now." "He seemed better, at least."

Kirito laughed.
"I bet he hid at least one wound, am I correct?"

"One or two." Scott said, smiling. "I hope he and Alyx stay out of trouble."

Kargolo rested in a pile of moss. He looked at Matilda.

Kirito smiled.
"He'll stay out of trouble, I'm sure."

Matilda sighed and drifted off.

Kirito nudged Scott and smiled.
"Matilda's lonely. Why don't you give her some company?"

He blinked on his sleepers and fell into a rest himself.

Kona skipped along the savannah.

Asuna got to her paws at the sound of Kona nearby. She knew the others probably couldn't hear Kona like she could. She walks to Kirito and whispers something in his ear. He nods and she leaves.

Kargolo's feathery forehead flickered, then he woke. He looked around. One of the wolves was gone, Asuna, he thought. He could smell something else. 'More meat. Food. And food I don't have to resist. If I take this one quickly, I won't have to be it's friend. Aha.' He thought, and so he galloped out of the cave, he didn't care if anyone saw him. He flew towards where Kona was.

Asuna noticed Kargolo. She knew he was heading toward Kona so she stopped and let him pass by her. She trotted back to the cave, allowing him to take care of the dog.

The bird dropped into a dive, spinning and spinning. He landed swift and silent behind Kona.
