Might delete this later but I really needed to vent my stresses. This may or may not be the appropriate place for this but here goes:

My dad's mom is in her moderate-severe stages of vascular dementia after suffering a heart attack, constant loss of blood from peptic ulcers, and a series of transient ischemic strokes we were completely unaware of all within the last 6 years. As my family braves the pandemic searching for options to get her to full-time care, there is nothing to do otherwise but try to sympathize in any way we can. My grandmother causes immeasurable strife within my parents' household with her increasing lack of coherence and combativeness as her brain slowly withers. Those who do not understand the unknowns of progressive neurodegenerative disease may lash out in denial and continue to treat the afflicted poorly, worsening the mental health and quality of life of all parties involved. My regrets are not visiting her more often when she was still in her awareness stages; she usually cannot remember my name or what our relationship is when I visit.
Furthermore, my mom's mom has been slowly recovering from a right hemisphere massive stroke 8 months ago and may very well follow suit with my other grandmother. She still has delirium and experiences near total hemiplegia on her left side. Before her possible decline, I vow to establish the closest possible bond with her whether she develops dementia or not once she is back in our custody from the rehab center. It's frustrating that she has been basically taken from us due to entanglement with government-provided aid and now the COVID-19 incident. My poor grandmother has done so much for me that I want to give back as much as I can before she is inevitably taken from us.

The wall of text is my explanation as to why the video below is what I have been listening to gradually over the past three days. It attempts to capture the degradation of quality of memory belonging to the demented as their ailment progresses, and the collapse of the conscious mental field as peddled by Benjamin Libet. The audio content featured below could be the farthest thing from the truth, but the eerie realization that all dementia patients with conditions that have exacerbated past post-awareness cannot share their experiences perpetually extinguishes our chances of ever truly understanding their ruined state of mind. The concept of not being able to create new memories and the loss of old ones, the driving factors of human personality, is downright terrifying. It really is a horrible disease.

So, what we really have below is more of a simulation of the unrest and terror outwardly demonstrably felt by this disease's victims. For those with anxiety or depression, I advise not to listen past stage 3. For the brave, take frequent breaks; this beast is six hours and change long. Pay attention to the timestamps in the description, and associate the sound with the presented visuals for the maximum effect.

Oh god, I listened to that for the first time back in March. It filled me with such an impending sense of dread I had to stop playing it very early on. That first song haunted me when I was trying to sleep at night. I eventually finished it in segments, and later listened to it a second time without stopping. Sometimes I replay the first stage since I find the music kind of pleasant, but as a whole it's a terrifying piece of work.
My late grandmother also had Alzheimer's. I never saw the worst of it since she lived so far away. I couldn't imagine what it was like for my dad to see her like that. But listening to this made me feel like in was in her shoes. It was horrible. It's like having your identity slowly ripped away from you. Warm memories become twisted, distorted and ever more distant. Basic things become unknown to you. The saddest thing is those brief moments of clarity through all the noise and confusion in the later stages. The last part can bring you to tears no matter how you interpret it.
I've never interacted with a piece of art that made me think this hard about mortality before. It definitely made me think about my own life and the people around me. I hope I can see my family again soon and spend more time with them.
