I use the gradient tool for the backgrounds and the grass paint brush to do the grass. I mess around with the brushed sometimes too though and end up with cool looking dirt.

Damn, I just realized I forgot to put the grass over the paw on the grass over there. smilie

The face is a bit wide on the above picture, and the smile creeps me out because of the fact that is stretches across her entire face, but other than that, It ROCKS. Kicks @$$!!!
